  1. Hi, its alright, don't worry about asking questions, we're here to help. The holes should be in your overflow compartment separated from your DSB/main tank area. There should be a few threads in this very category concerning sumps and its design. Good luck.
  2. 'Harle.....are you thinking what I'm thinking?'.......HAHAHAHA (a la Pinky & the Brain)
  3. that's the general understanding. Try to ensure that the foaming does not result in salt spray, it can be unsightly and depending on your frame setup, may be corrosive.
  4. If you're on P2P you'll know what I mean, for a further hint, look at my avatar. PM already.
  5. A stronger pump suggestion may well be double edged, if you cannot regulate it, you'll have the water flowing into your overflow chamber too fast. You'll either get a 'Niagara Falls' as Morgan would call it, or a swirling whirlpool ###### in air. Then you'll have more variables to regulate. The ball valve may help but it can be pretty hard to turn the lever, be careful not to have any breaches from trying too hard. Plumbing is definately not my ######, and I'd leave it to experts.
  6. Haha....that's not what I mean....kidding.... Great looking tank, and without a sump too.... lucky you seem to have your bioload under control.
  7. Just wondering if anyone is interested in swapping movies, DVDs....whatever...
  8. Wah sduu..... a bit biased right, don't answer me but for eprouve, u did.... Must compliment first before I can get attention is it? <_< <_<
  9. Its kinda unfair to pass any judgement as yet till we get some definite answers from authorities. Most of the naval personnel aren't talking, and I'm not about to probe into it. I dunno guys, but instead of looking for someone to blame, I'd sincerely go the way of looking into ways to prevent accidents like this from happening again. Like AT said, accidents do happen.
  10. 18 propeller pump type or 18 blade TurboJet Impeller? Is it a new version, different from the ones they sell in LFS? Sorry, had to confirm since I can't seem to find it on RedSea website. Thanks.
  11. Why not? If you can get through customs.....
  12. HAHAHA ... .... 'damn right' (To understand the joke: Check out the LOTR Spoof AT posted.) It sure was a workout, kinda fun too. Wonder if the water's cleared up? Quite curious how our 'blind' layout of his precious corals turned out?
  13. Looks like a spawn man..... none of your fish tried to gobble it yet? Maybe some other guys can try to identify it
  14. That sucks eh? But it is pretty cool. I'm looking at Butterfly fish, but I can't keep corals with them... <_< <_< So still contemplating
  15. Wow, $100, Red Sea origins perhaps. Sealife you say, ok, maybe drop by to take a look. Besides their dietary requirements, anything else to consider? I don't think they're totally compatible with Tangs and Surgeons <_<
  16. Is it the Golden Semilarvatus? It is quite a beauty... LiveAquaria recommends 'A diet of vitamin-enriched live foods or fresh clams may be needed in the beginning. Provide herbivore preparations once the fish begins eating' Clams? ... I kind like the CopperBand, and I've seen the Yellow Long Nose in some LFS. How much do they usually go for? (yours must be quite ex)
  17. Just wondering if anyone is keeping, or have any experience with Butterfly fishes? I do hear that they are very pretty but can be quite a menace with corals. Thanks
  18. The washing is just a precaution in case there are any toxic materials. I washed the sand on my own to make sure I get all the undesirables out. It gave me a good workout anyway, and not to mention the 'sand massage' to clean out the grime in my nails. Up to you buddy, as the saying goes, 'if you wanna do things right, you got to do it yourself'.
  19. Oops, correction guys. Washed sand costs more per kg, so effectively they'll pack less into the plastic bags and charge you at $8/pk (vs a 10kg sack) I bought 20kg, so I was thinking along that line....sorry, hope I didn't confuse you. (technically how can 'significantly less' be )
  20. Back when I was studying in Western Australia, I went down south to Busselton's 2km long jetty for some fishing action. My pals and I were caught out in a tropical storm for 16 hours, gales raging at well over 150kph, with cold lashing rain and big waves crashing on the jetty scaffoldings.....not at all comforting.... Feel the wrath of Mother Nature in its raw form ....
  21. Sten's right It is a filter feeder, and requires floating micro-plankton just to keep it alive It also needs proper calcium levels and alkalinity (dunno about that). It does not tolerate nitrates or copper-based medications. They may also require to be fed individually through a pipette with phytoplankton.
  22. As a side note: Unwashed #1 sand usually come in 10kg sacks, and retails at ard $8. There are those which are washed and packed in plastic bags, but weighs significantly less (maybe ard 12-14kg) commanding the same price. I just got my unwashed sand from Hawaii (Sembawang) but that might be out of your way.
  23. NICE.... ..... new sprout for a new year And a 'new' tank after Sunday.... we'll be one of the lucky few to see Morgan's tank before it rises out of the ashes from the 'nukes' like a Phoenix
  24. I'm also looking into ordering my Protein Skimmer from the US but please note that their devices run on 110v, so you'll need to get a convertor, and that may not justify the savings.
  25. CRT monitors take up too much space and energy, 'low emission'? Not quite. LCDs is the way to go due to its smaller 'footprint' and lower power consumption. 'Emily', my Sony 15sfII was faithful to me for over 5 years till I switched to a Samsung LCD ('Vana') : more elbow space, more brilliant graphics, and aesthetically more pleasant. Too bad you missed the promotions in COMDEX but If you can spare the cash (try not visiting Halus/LFS for a while.... ), go LCD, Samsung is a good choice.
