  1. Your Sea Fan will do better if you bring it away from direct light, it does better in lower light condition
  2. I have been eyeing the Flame for ages, it is very stunning. I like the Coral Beauty for his color combination. If I have them introduced at the same time, would that work? And is it true that with them around, your shrimps don't stand a chance?
  3. Unless that damsel have killed some of your other fishes, then his value (bounty) would go up..... if it kills, say a juvenile Scribbled Angelfish, its value would technically by worth 3 figures... If you do catch your damsel, you can sell your technique to Dodo, his 'damn-sel' is giving him hell....
  4. Newly introduced fire fish wouldn't stand a chance against those 'resident brutes'.... I think Dino meant to introduce fire fish after he catches the damsels.
  5. Tried to direct the return flow nearer to surface which resulted in larger bubbles, so its now slightly below the water line. My pump sits on the sand bed in the refugium, I'll try to fence it up in a chamber over the weekend and create an overflow (like the main tank). Hopefully it'll lessen the microbubbles Thanks man.
  6. Till I find a way get some Chaetomorpha by going to you-know-where, I bought some Caulerpa for nutrient export ( I'll remove the Caulerpa later and use them as LR... like what the LFS are doing ) Anyway, I realised that with the lights on in the refugium, the photosynthetic process produces a lot of microbubbles which is kinda cool, but manage to find its way into the main tank on occassions. I doubt there's a way to reduce the microbubble-ing, but is there a way to reduce the amount of it getting into the main tank? Its hard to build a baffle in the sump now.
  7. This is truly amazing guys ... true CHAOS THEORY at work here Started as optical illusion, and one thing led to another.....just like my thread (For those interested in Chaos theory, do a search, the 'Butterfly Effect' is quite amazing)
  8. Even so, the surrounding seems a little wrong: Looks more like a lake / pond with all that grass growing by the water edge, sure don't look like mangroves to me Do they have mantis in freshwater?
  9. Most definately.... Can't see very well on my company laptop but the shadowing is completely off, and definition-wise: the grain is not uniform, seems like just pasted over. Whoever did this should have worked in it more...
  10. hotsoup, your nick cannot be any more apropriate since you welcome ' a BROAD lady'..... (myself) Hi ladies, hope you don't mind, early morning meeting tomorrow and stupid enough to chug a pint of coffee does this a guy....
  11. Can someone tell me 'WHAT THE HELL' is going on ..... first its Live Rocks, and now SAND???? Talk about opportunistic bloodsucking.... Maybe its a conspiracy; they know there'll always be people trying to do up a nice tank for CNY (like moi), and as the date closes, people gets desperate and bid the price upwards (a little like COE) Then comes the supplier and LFS comes in, they'd come together and decide to restrict supplies, driving prices even further up.... Now comes the BEST part: People will happily march into the LFS with their ang pow money to splurge more money on lifestock and equipments..... Someone better stop me and my conspiracy theories before I get arrested or eternally banned from LFS
  12. I'm having the same problem myself. I usually dip the food under water before letting them get caught in the current from my return pump to push them towards my clowns. May not be a good idea to grind them too small as it'll affect water quality.
  13. Talking about that, found two of my snails dead with nothing but their shells beside my LR base .... A closer examination revealed that a brown hairy crab was lurking under the rocks .... could that bugger have devoured my snails?
  14. Was at Serangoon North, so I thought I'd drop by R---b-w to see what kinda stunts they're pulling this time. Surprise surprise..... LIVE ROCKS in their shark tank .... at $35/KG!!!!!!!!! Medieval Greatsword also cannot begin to describe what they are using to 'cleave' desperate newbies....
  15. Taking a poke at me again Phang? Don't get me started with you man.....
  16. I suppose I was quite lucky my cycling went through smoothly, though our of sheer stupidity and enhusiasm I threw in 2 full sized prawns in both my 3 ft main tank and 3 ft sump I'm not sure but think oxygenation of my water plays a role in prevention of the bacteria going anaerobic. My overflow chamber allows water to fall a good 12' before it goes to the sump and water agitation over a reasonable surface area provides another means of gaseous exchange. Thererfore good aeration should also plays an important part in the nitrogen cycle, and prevent, to a certain extent, your bacteria from going anaerobic. Anybody care to comment?
  17. Hi Lona, Welcome to SRC. Well, as discussed briefly here, #1 sand typically go for $8 per 10 kg pack but you need that much sand so you don't have to break your balls to save a couple of bucks. When I purchased my LRs, I inspect them before purchase to ensure their sweet ocean smell and check them over for any undesirable creatures. And when I get back, I give them a good scrub in salt water to remove the grime and dying. According to some overseas aquarists, you can aerate them with an airpump overnight just to be sure.
  18. Just did too a couple of hours ago..... very arty farty (hairy fairy baloney... ) Zhang Yimou adopts the Akira Kurosawa's way of cinematography; using the weather to good effect, focus on the hands and legs movements, etc. The cast is brilliant (albiet the acting a tat 'wayang' at times): 1) 'Explosive Stiffies' - Jet Li and Donny Yuen 2) 'Fresh as a Flower' Zhang Ziyi 3) 'hilarious at times' Tony Leung, and 4) Ever so ever so beautiful Zhang Manyu The cinematography, as explained, is simply breathtaking ... The plot may fall a little short of depth as compared to Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger Hidden Draon", but is entertaining nonetheless. I have not given too much away so go catch it at all means.
  19. Nice going guys .... (very Americano; Letterman, Leno, O'Brien..) My lousy day at work ended with a smile Thanks....
  20. Here's a little something to think about: Why do they need our IC number when we purchase our Ezylink card? Technically, they can track every single public commuter for as long as the system is in place. They know now I am, where I work and where I frequent the most. Soon ERP will be charged though some GPS system.... So....drumroll.... that means public and private transport commuters can be tracked. If its for statistical studies, for ways to relieve transport woes, its fine. But if its used to *ahem* 'optimise' collections, then we're in for it .... <_<
  21. Talk about appropriating money in the wrong places, don't you think installing PLASMA TV to inform passengers how long before their next train arrives is a huge, and I mean HUGE waste of money......? Oh I miss the train... so what? Its gonna be here in a couple of minutes !!! What can I do with that 4 mins.... hmmm... maybe I can go take a pee, oh darn... no washroom ... maybe I can go something to eat ... shucks... no snack bar ... Its not like catching a flight and I have an hour or so to browse around ... totally of NO value add at all. I know this a little retrospective but I think its time for them to rethink where are they spending OUR money...

  23. Thanks bawater, I was almost certain you'd get your hands on anything that looks interesting Realised its only trace elements, and they recommend only a few drops a week or something, I reckoned its powerful concoction its got in there, so may be no harm trying. How much do they cost? I assumed you got them together with your culture kits.
  24. Woah... Sea Apple is such a hazard and people are selling it anyway However, at least one online aquariums I visited commented that it is reef safe, that's odd isn't it? They should know better. Think you guys just saved me a whole lot of trouble, my wife likes it too and I was intending to buy it just to please her.
