This one skinny.... Let me find a fatter one.... Try searching for quality underwater photographs, save them as bitmaps (no less than 1024 x 768), resave as jpeg or gif etc, then resize, the distortions will be less obvious. Is it tough to find a pair of mated HS? May I be the first to request if anyone spots one, let me know ... -
I guess its only fair to mentoin that Metal Halide lamps produce a lot of heat. To maintain a temperature suitable for a reef tank, you'll have to complement the MH with a chiller. There are mentions of how MH makes more economical sense, but its the complements (chiller) and the running costs (electricity) which stays my hand

Skunk is another term used for Cleaner Shrimp. (Hope I'm not stealing Tango's thunder.... ) With all the hype generated from this thread, it's going to hard finding these guys from now on ..... Just realised that the difficult part is distinguishing the males from the females, so unless you know how to; getting them to mate is going to be tough So may be good idea to have some exchange program going until a match is made (Tango's Harlequin Matchmaking Service.... ) -

Mated Skunks and Harlequins spawning eh? That ought to be a sight If only can time properly, each pair spawning at alternating weeks; your fishes and corals will get to have a smogasbord every week.....saving you some treats every now and then.... BTW, what are the odds are keeping the shrimp fries alive to juvenile-hood? (Tango's or coelacanth's brood...) -
I'm of the opinion that we should use the translucent ones and try to clean the pipe as much as we can since we don't want the gunk to build up and constrict the flow, which might also affect the efficiency of the skimmer. Morgan cleans his hose by putting a green cleaning scrub in the hose and using a power hose to 'power-flush' the scrub out the other end, whilst cleaning it. (very much like pulling a 5 piece rod through the barrel ... )

Just wondering, if your pairs are mated, would they spawn on a regular basis like AT's CBS? Then would it be difficult then to buy starfish fitting to a small / juvenile Harlequin? -
Think I remember seeing it in a VCD shop in Sun Plaza some weeks ago, and again somewhere in Orchard is a large DVD store, its the original DVD Code 1 version, you can check those places out first.... then I borrow...

No man, I try to spoil the fun by reading too much on the net ... I'll review them after the shows so at least I'm not biased. Battle Angel? Heard of it, some anime girl right? No man, is it better than EVA? That anime is already in a class of its own, alongside some others. I watch anime very much like I do any other movies; either I like it at first glance , or none at all. Escaflowne's been around a bit, think they trying to hit the US market like Bebop and EVA. Seen the American version, didn't like the dubbing. My opinion, Japanese dialogue is more natural (if its not broken, don't try to fix it). Don't mind it, if you have the original version with EN subs. Woohoo... movie swaps time... I'm sure you'll find Bebop highly watcheable, if u into manga, try my favourite of all time: *** LONE WOLF & CUB *** The series finally ended last year and I've already found myself reading it again. Do a search and you'll see what I mean. The entire reprint series by Dark Horse can be found at Kinokuniya.

Suggest that you remove them. Those killed a couple of my snails and was dumb enoughto leave the shells outside their lair. Took 4 of them out over the weekend, but is backbreaking work to dismantle everything and scape the rocks again. Get it once and over with.

Are PLC lights suitable for reef tanks
KingFish replied to alexlean's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I have been told that 55W 10K PL from the aforementioned brand does not last very long. There is another more reliable brand, but costs alot more (ard 70+) -
How often u change the filter wool? or never?
KingFish replied to souphamster's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
If it white in colour and feels like hard sponge, its likely to be POLYFILTER. Quite a neat piece too since it can clean out quite a bit of toxic materials. Good buy. I change my Polyfilter once it turns brown and gooey; I can never seem to clean it. But at least you know its working. My worry is, we can identify it by reading off its package. Unless they have repackaged them in smaller portions and sell it like what they do with sand -
Contact Details for Reliable Tank Manufacturers
KingFish replied to Dragonet's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
This contact was from Morgan, credit should go to him. Sounds like the Oscars came early...hehehe -
I'm playing cool and try to march into a theatre with any expectations, that way you won't be too disappointed... My favourite anime to date is Cowboy Bebop ... cool & funky bounty hunter action ... with one of the best animation besides Evangelion and Rahxephon. About HERO, there are parts which are seemingly 'overdone', but I suspect the bulk of us are comparing this to CTHD, so our perception may be somewhat biased. I wouldn't go as far as to say there is no depth in storyline, as compared to CTHD whose plot is even simpler. Character development plays an important role as well, which CTHD did flawlessly. I believe if the movie is longer, more can be done, adding not only depth but also breadth to the story.

I'm using one of those wrought iron stand from a FW LFS, the construct looks good, and bars are of at least 1-1.5' (though I know there are those of 2'). I use them to house my 3ft tank and a 3ft sump. Mine's an open concept. Before I use them, I coated them with a primer my brother uses for his VW 69' Beetle to stop and prevent rust. I suppose if you make the necessary precautions and remember to wipe them down everytime u do maintenance, it should be fine.

Here's another price of info: "In captivity, stomatopods are capable of breaking the double-paned safety glass of the aquariums that house. The impact force of one large Californian species is almost as powerful as a .22 caliber bullet. By weight, they rank among the most formidable animals on Earth." Further reading for the misguided...hehehe -
Polyfilter is typically white in colour and is capable of absorbing load of contaminants and toxic materials. Its can be quite a lifesaver. Mysis shrimps are used to feed fish and corals. Hope I get this right....hehehe

Actually, Polarie, regarding your 'branding' argument, be it the shop name, or Live Stock (LS) will not stand very well; Ra--b-w is famous for charging ridiculous prices for their LS (marine at least, not sure about the rest) If you are referring to LS, as far as we know, they're all the same

What to do with LR after you buy it?
KingFish replied to fairywrasse's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Iona, Depending on how much sand you intend to put in, I suppose they'll be fine, otherwise you can always put them aside before you do so. As a matter of fact, I am also thinking of increasing my 4' DSB in my refugium by supplementing with a pack of River Sand (#0 sand?). Thing is, my DSB is already a month old, would anyone advise if introducing new sand to my DSB will affect its current denitrifying capability? Thanks. -
I'm sorry qixian, I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean.... But since its a Sunday... I certainly wouldn't fight little fish as it'll be a severe mismatch ... **kidding** And I don't really fancy the LH

Yup, we can set up a Leader Board for the ones with the highest bounty.. Bawater, yours seem to be baddest one of the lot Maybe those reefers who are plagued by these damsel can organise a 'DUKE FEST'; Put them all in a 1 footer, get them all hyped up (with some additives) and let them DUKE IT OUT .... Dodo will jump at this in half a minute...

Oops ... sorry man Nice fox u got there

'can go through plywood ah....' These critters, though pretty, are awfully strong, aren't anyone worried about getting speared when you have to clean the tank? But I suppose its the same with the Lionfish... -
No problem Phang, I'm just waiting for this thing to blow over
