Bloated stomache & healthy looking eh? A sign of being well-fed? Tanzy should be able to answer this. His paired clowns spawn every forthnight or so... Anyway, nice meeting you today
-
Most probably stress related ... sorry buddy... These are some guidelines I read, it should include, but not limited to: Try avoid buying inactive fish or for that matter, also one that seem may be a little too 'hopped-up'. When they're bagged, make sure they get a good amount of air into keep the water aerated as long as it permits. During transport, try to keep them in darkness as any sudden light does make them jumpy. Good luck

I've got spots of purple growing everywhere else BUT my rocks, main's glass, refugium's glass, powerhead etc..... Nope....those unidentified red spots came off easily with a good scrape..... Coloured sand eh? Yeah... those pink carribean sand is kinda interesting... too bad we can't find it here

AQUASCAPING - teach me how?
KingFish replied to souphamster's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Its entirely up to you and how you like it; some reefers like it big and cluttered and some like the more open-minimalist concept. There were some discussion here Good Luck -
I have a 3 ft refugium with Caulerpa on a 4' DSB, my NO3 is typically around 0.10 ppm. Since you have a refugium and macroalgae, you can try extending your lighting hours in my refugium. Basically making the caulerpa work harder, and reduce the NO3. It worked for me when one of my starfish died and 'shot' my water. However, you may want to monitor since caulerpa is known to go asexual and melt away, releasing the nutrients back into the water. I can see some of mine whitening and melt away eventually, but I believe the overall export than compensates for it.

I have persistent brown algae on my glass, probably due to my tap water. Phosguard reduced the spread, but I suppose unless I get a RO/DI unit, it'll go on. Since Tanzy mentioned abt cyno, I have some red patches on my glass near and on my sandbed, they don't seem slimy at all. Any idea what is that?

I've always been an '######' man (as oppose to ######), but its REALLY NICE to meet you BigBooBoo I read your nick as Big_Boob, and the 'oo' for the 'hooters'...hehehe

That means its working... thing to note is how long it took to turn green. Once my polyfilter turned brown within 3 days, that was before I got my skimmer of course.

Environment does play a big part, my tank temperature measured 27.4 degrees after 10hrs under PL without any fan, I suppose it does fluctuate. Fans will be good idea, take note of evaporation though, that can be taken care of by water+kalk topup. There's also a correlation between temperature and salinity, you may wanna find that out for general reading. About lights, dodo and I are trying out T5s to pretty good effects, standby for our reviews soon....
-
Iona, you might wanna check if there's any other reason why your temperature is so high. How strong is your PH? Maybe you got one that takes up too much power, thus heating the water up. Depending on your lights, your temperature will skyrocket. DC fans and chiller will help, but I'd look at the source too.

You can try flipping them over, it will right itself slowly but surely.. At least you can tell if its alive and well when it does
-
I have shitload of them crawling all over my sand, rocks, and even my powerhead ... I spend hours looking into my refugium; there are weirder things there like ghostly white snails and orange sponge-like things on my cauerpa ... I'm not sure about crabs eating pods, I do hear my renegade pistol 'snapping', maybe at those 'beetles'?
-
Phew ... glad u found him a new home, that coco-worm tube is butt ugly Looking cool and at ease .... wat would you do if you moved from a town house to a bungalow eh... Another satisfied home owner/customer of 'Tango's Realty' Th hermit crab has some nice red/orange bands round its legs guys... latest entry to Tango's shrimps and inverts tank.... hehehe

I couldn't agree more, the diversity of life beyond the fish and corals is pretty amazing, ever see a worm in the rocks stick it ###### out for a dump? ... little pellets which my clowns mistaken for krill I feed them...hehehe These 'jugs' bull its way around and either trampling over or eating smaller pods in its path. There're little green elongated ones on the sandbed, but my camera is too crappy to capture it. I get dizzy staring hard through the glass... Zerocool - think there's a thread somewhere on these parasitic pods, do a search
-
... Saw these 'uglies' at an LFS, was contemplating for a while ... maybe its functional aspects will be a reason to get one. Tango ... making full use of the books, and I see you're getting ready for your new car eh?

Minus any magnification from my 8mm glass panels, say 3-4mm? The one in the picture is the biggest of the lot. I count around 8 of these 'juggernauts'; looking like beetles, they forage where the current is stronger and can swim really fast. Got no idea if they're safe coz none of my clowns seem to be interested in them too. Anyone got anything like this?

Scrub it down with a clean brush to remove the scum and stuff, any rotting substance on the rocks does contribute to the cycle. You may find some sponge, u can keep it if you like. Keep it wet it constantly while you're at it, a spray bottle will do fine. You may wanna take some time to inspect the rocks while cleaning (the ocean smell will keep you intoxicated) and rid the LR of some of the undesirable inhabitants such as mantis (sorry mantis lovers... ) Some suggest aerating the rocks with an airpump in a quarantine bucket or tank, apparently these critters will leave their hidey-holes Good Luck

Shrimp fries from your harlequins?...hehehe Pods I suppose.
-
Yazid, Notice that its not the typical sand you're using for your DSB, is it that river sand you're using? Or could it be the lighting?
-
Often neglected, but important member of a saltwater aquaria; I thought I'd do these guys some justice and post a pic of one of critters. This lil' guy (among others) meaures around 5mm and can be seen scrounging the sand bed with its smaller counterparts
-
I was stink with tiny little sharp needles!!!
KingFish replied to souphamster's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I get stung all the time, and it hurts for a day or two.... don't remember seeing any needle though. But I like the idea of life in my rocks.... But bristleworms do occupy deadrocks too right? if I may, mrjoe, how often do you wash your rocks? You mean like take them out for a scrub? That'll mean 'setup' and 'teardown' every now and then right? -
Woohoo... Beeeauuuutiiful....... Saw one myself, but stave off the urge .... gr....rrrrr <_< Till you get her to feed, your worms will be decimated .... bad news for worm lovers like Tango....
-
Yeah Baby...Yeah... ... Looking good in the tank, not moving much though. Tango, your 'harle's happy I guess. But I gotta admit, running around looking for starfish is kinda fun ...

I'm not familiar with this but was just wondering if it is possible for moderator to do their own backup onto local computer? Compress and burn/overburn onto CDW?
-
Do you do any backup? What's the frequency? ....sounds like I'm doing my job....hehe
