  1. Or you can hack into XBox to run Linux which an MIT managed to do so. You can either use a mod chip, or not, depending on how technically inclined you are. Considering Microsoft makes these boxes at a loss, using the console to run Linux is like a double-kick in the nuts
  2. Usable only if you don't have any ornamental shrimps such as Cleaners, Blood etc ... otherwise, it'll easily pick at the food. Small fishes or those with slimmer profile such as Dottybacks may also get to the bait. Try using baitmeat in a mesh bag or stocking, last I heard, crabs get trapped in them easily, but that may also be the case for shrimps.
  3. Ahhhh..... thanks There is the Hiphop and Rock version to the Ipod ad. I was looking for the Jet song, it shall have the honour of 'deflowering' my Ipod ...
  4. Coralline comes in a variety of colours: purple, pink, dark maroon, brown, et cetera. Google it and you'll see. Cyano does grow on glass, as a matter of fact, it grows everywhere ... Do be careful with the CA additive as it may upset the balance. Don't worry about Coralline, it should reach plague proportion soon enough.
  5. Anyone has any idea what is the title of the rock song / jingle Apple used in the latest IPOD advertisement? A little too catchy ... ...
  6. tyres are a little new aren't it? Unless that tree is really bark over lampost, it does not seem to bear any signs of damage Good prank though, takes a really bored person to put in that much of effort
  7. I thought they claimed they have Saddam's DNA profile back in April and were comparing it with dead Iraqis to confirm if Saddam was killed in action. See the contradiction. Anyway, 'his' refusal to drink any water while Iraqis are in bondage shows 'his' intentional use of the media to play things up a little ... then again, CNN & FOX can report whatever they want. This just keeps getting better and better...
  8. So CIA do not have a sample of Saddam's DNA? How is it going to stand in reasonable doubt? At best its a clinical guess that it MIGHT be Saddam, but I suppose he'll do. I guess the next question they'll be asking is where are his millions?
  9. Rough patch eh? Well, when the going gets tough, all we got to do is to think .... "It could have been worse" ... Perhaps go do something you've been thinking of but haven't been able to ... or do outright silly... Here's a suggestion, I have three words for you: "Waterballoon" and "16th floor"
  10. Playing dumb eh Conrad? Those are colonising tunicates alright, posted the same picture a long time ago. X-Japan posted some multicoloured ones before, and I'm talking orange, blue, etc ... They feed on phytoplankton and does not seem to do well in bright lights and they grow FAST ...
  11. Even in Feudal Japan, rival clans were already using scores of doubles called 'Kagemushas' to throw enemies off their trail while they mount a comeback. Clones may be a little far fetched, but its not entirely impossible for Saddam to leak to the CIA his double's DNA sample from the very beginning. And we know how 'reliable' American Intelligence is, take the hunt for WMD for example. For all we know, this is another propoganda campaign to divert attention from the failure of the American campaign in Iraq ... think 'Wag the Dog'.
  12. Those are tough to pluck. Go for its food source. I put a piece of rock over mine to block out the light, killed it eventually. And don't worry about Corraline, yours have reached pest status, so it'll grow back in not time.
  13. Have you seen some of the threads lately? Some of these yoyos are too quick to flame without thinking it through at all, so I'd thought I'd conduct some pre-emptive strikes. Terry, remember to donate in memory of 'your' cat, 'Squish'.
  14. ... thats a good one Do look in the thread AT pointed out, it should be helpful.
  15. If you do not target feed it, then it may be a case of simple starvation if there isn't enough sand fauna to sustain it.
  16. Wasn't kidding man ... that stands as my true recommendation. I still stand by the age old concept of: "If you wanna get things done, do it yourself" AND "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" Besides, once you board that plane, there is no turning back.I worried so much in my last trip I nearly spoiled our holiday. So take it easy and enjoy your break.
  17. Oh yes, before someone comes slamming about how life cannot be repaid with cash; my proposition is fundamentally different in principle, go sit on it for a while. If you still can't figure it out, then I got three(3) words for you. Go **** Yourself ...
  18. There is some domesticated cat association in Singapore. Well, if it makes you feel better, look them up and pledge whatever cash you have in your wallet (without looking)as donation towards the betterment of welfare for other felines ... Life dictates for those departed to be returned to the earth as soem form of sustenance for the others. Guess this is just an extension. Take it easy man
  19. Riot, haven't seen you around for a while. Nice looking tank you got going Its been long day and since I have been doing risk profiles and recommending mitigation procedures all day long, so I might as well do a quick one on yours. From what I can see, all else remain constant and you get your conditions up to scratch, your corals should survive the 2 weeks. As for your fish, you stand to lose the Yellow Tang & the Banggai if not fed well. However, if you add BIL into the equation, you run a higher risk of spiking your water conditions and killing everything. Know your calculated risks, mitigate them and accept the residuals. All in all, its a matter of recognising what you stand to lose. If you're lucky, the tank will come through, but you should think of how you can cut your losses.
  20. As its relationship with Salinity -> Specific Gravity? Certainly. But that is more from a purist point of view I suppose every factor does affect in certain ways. However, these are probably too minute and does not justify too much of a consideration. A Protein Skimmer ... is a Protein skimmer ... is a protein skimmer. Be it Red Sea, AquaC or HSA, it removes shit and certain amount of PO4, trace elements and whatsnot in your tank. As long as there is gunk in the collection cup and reduce the effects of bioload and the feeding regime, its fulfilling its function. Don't sweat the small stuff, its only small stuff
  21. Terry, Preferring more contact time between the bubble and the DOM, I keep a low foam level; where the foam tower meets the dark skimmer body. However, I note that yours is a EV180, which has a taller tower than the EV120. If you prefer a slightly drier skimmate, I recommend a lower foam level and work your way up until you're happy with the skimmate quality.
  22. reefer guy, Here's an extract from AquaC's manual available online. Skimmer Features The new EV Series skimmers are a significant advancement over the original design we released in 1998. We’ve listened to customer suggestions and comments and our new EV’s incorporate many of the features hobbyists have been asking for. The new features include: • Flanged and locking collection cup and cap - twist and release for super-smooth cleaning. • Raised gate valve – the skimmer no longer needs to be raised in most sump installations! • Redesigned exit plumbing virtually eliminates any microbubbles that can return to the sump. • Larger mixing chamber (40% more volume) means greater contact time and waste removal. • Side-mounted gate valve saves sump space and requires smaller overall footprint. • Precision control air flow valve – easy tuning for wet or dry foam. • John Guest “Super Speed Fit” fitting for quick airline connection on ozone models. • Sealed foam tower means no more salt creep build-up. • Auto-waste container compatible. Two and three liter containers are available. • Redesigned interior baffling system reduces turbulence and increases contact time; the end result is a two-fold increase in foam production and skimming efficiency. As Terry has pointed out, the older models are definately still performers. The John Guest fittings are great addition as you can connect the effluent drip from your CA Reactor where the CO2 can be flushed out. I believe Yazid is utilising the feature.
  23. Try to stay on topic guys. Terry, the length of time your EV takes to break-in differs from tank to tank. Salinity plays a part too so water temperature is also related, surface tension, et cetera ... et cetera ... Perhaps Acanthurus pyroferus with his years of experience can fill you in. It takes time for the foam tower surface to achieve a specific charge that allows the foam to rise up the column. So getting a reliable pump to drive the spray-inductor and keep a stable foam production is also essential. Keep the fiddling to micro-adjustments and it'll be fine.
