I doubt you'll find any independent review of the different salt mixes. You'll be surprised to know that some of the different brandnames get the salt from the same factory. IMO, dissolution rate of the salt is also negligible since its a prudent practice to allow freshly mixed salt to settle, or stir with a powerhead overnight for the water chemistry, pH etc tp stabilise.

Chaeto are typically deep green in colour, wiry and taut to touch, somewhat like a Brillo pad. Hair algae are long and stringy, slimy to touch. You'll know you do not want it in your tank. Bryopsis in its early stages are pale yellowish green in colour and is tough to remove.

bwilly is not here coz the title does not attract his attention, I can prove it by editing it to ' Is China a threat to the global ###### industry?'

Well, I try as much as I could but I think Tanzy already has something on his mind and is seeking to see if someone has the same opinion ... spill it man I can only reiterate, China is a rising power, and most believe it will provide the main engine for Asia's economical growth. Singapore much to benefit if it means to hitch a ride. Singapore had reassessed our strengths and weaknesses. Subsequently, also identified our new niche market/s. All of which have been outlined in the papers / media for the past year or so, all one has to do is to read the trend. As far as I can tell, we only need to rid the complacency off our citizens and we should be well underway

Mushrooms and Zoos are tough as nails, so I wouldn't be too concerned about them. I hope for your sake you are aware that overdose of Reef Builder may cause a precipitation of Calcium from your water. If you're using DT, you'll need to shale the bottle at least once a week to prevent the sedimentation and starving of the phyto.

The effectiveness of DSB do not simply lie in the depth of it, but also the surface area for it to work on. If your objective for the DSB is for denitrification purposes, you can also consider doing regular water change for nutrient export (NO3 included) instead since your water volume is relatively small. DSB in a 2ft cube take up valuable estate, not as eye pleasing, and may hide Hydrogen Sulphide pockets if not managed by sufficient sand fauna.

I started off with KENT to Tropic Marine to Coralife salt. There's be an initial stage where the the corals will struggle to cope with the change in chemistry composition of the water. If switch is made on a progressive and incremental basis, I do not forsee any problem. You may have rampant Coralline algae growth on the glass if the conditions are right.

What's the big deal about Howard Dean's scream?
KingFish replied to Achilles Tang's topic in General Reefkeeping_
It just occured to me, perhaps he was trying to do a MLK (Martin Luthur King) ... it sounds strangely familiar isn't it? -
Please comment on my intended tank setup

The title of your topic has been edited to be more descriptive, and perhaps attract members' attention. Kindly refer to and comply with this. -
A sturdy wooden stool would do nicely. As wide as you can find.

Just so you know, for those who have not seen Chaeto, it is a fine line between that and Hair algae, even Bryopsis in the early stages may look like Chaeto.

What's the big deal about Howard Dean's scream?
KingFish replied to Achilles Tang's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I'm writing this out of memory, still a great coffeetable joke: Three friends are gathered over coffee one day discussing who's profession came about first. The Surgeon claims that God performed world's first medical procedure by removing a rib from Adam to create Eve. With a smuck, the Engineer claims that God took the Chaos and Gases from the Universe and created Earth, thus Eden. The Politician .... AHA!!! But who created all the chaos? -

Its all a matter of discrediting political opponents in a race. The majority of the votes does not come from the country's learned but from the less educated and ones in the lower income bracket. Propoganda is a powerful tool and the general population is rather gullible. The tactics used are brutal but you have to admit, their resolve is rather admirable. -
Ok, I think if its good or bad really depends on how Singapore adapts to the change. Align interest and actions correctly, we should reap mutual benefits. If we can bring our expertise and the relative cheap source of resources together, throw in a HUGE market, I'd say the potential is great. Besides, we speak the language, understand the culture and I'm not talking about China alone. If we play the middleman role right, the odds are very much on our side. We're also intending to become the 'Swiss Bank' of Asia, see where I'm heading? The commercial mindset is gradually changing. Most of the business are already aware we need to go regional at the very least. So as far as I can gather, the rise of China should do us more good than harm.

The detachment here is only a token of US's committment to deter any hostile action to our fragile nation. But really, our greatest threat is not from the south. Ishikawa Rika is rather cute ... do you have a montage of her as well? Man ... just reread my previous posts, my grammar is getting from bad to worse, maybe I'll do better in my Mandarin or Hindi / Urdu

It has already been reported that the spending power of Chinese from mainland China is rising fast, indicating the increasing affluence of their citizens. Not really sure how's the marketing like, but as far as I know, its still a favoured location. However, the arrogance of Singaporean has gotten to some of them, businessmen from both sides have much to learn from each other.

We need to look from a macro point of view. That's why I say we have to play our cards right. So far, we're doing ok. As long as there are mutual benefits, these giants are still acceptable to a certain level of cooperation, I hope. Personally, I'm not a believer of global stability. Phillisophically, it is not necessarily a good thing. The only constant is change, and that is how it works. China and India's rise is, as mentioned course of progression for Asia, Europe and the US have the recognise it and tailor their attitues and foreign policies to suit that change.
-
Off the top of my head ... that is already passe. We can't possibly compete in terms of labour costs, expertise maybe, but that industry is highly limited. Tourism is also hardly a engine of growth, the asian countries are already opening up, even I will gladly forgo an expensive Europe tour for a round Asia trip. Just trying to keep the discussion livelier

hehe ... before we really go into technical bits, Tango_Liverock is here, he's in the secuity business as well, user environment I think.

That desperate ah? Personally, I feel that PRC is just a natural phase in the world progression. It is a force to be reckon with, globally everyone is scrambling in face of this change. Europe is in chaos, as usual... US foreign policy is rather apparent but there's a fair amount of politicking behind the scene. Singapore probably has little part except to play the cards right by aligning our interests with giants such as PRC & India, as well as the sole remaining superpower. ROC on another hand is a different story, its existence has been orchestrated and assured to extend another purpose. Those in the know will understand what I mean.

IIS for example? Just as well, that way we can still earn a living...

... must have misread it somehow. Cool, check your PM. I don't trust any package these days. Even with BlackIce, a colleague sitting down the isle dialled out to an ISP, came in through our FW and changed the synchronisation shortcut of my shared drive to his local machine. Contemplating running VMware now, wipe out everything and start from a fresh image everytime I bootup.

Sure, I am aware that you were with TriSecurity and another security company one time. I'm in the same line as you, but have moved from consulting to the user side now.

Many people have the misconception that with a firewall, you're protected and safe. That is WRONG. The Firewall is only as strong as its weakest link. So unless you know how to configure it properly, you will still be open to attacks.

Removing any part of nature will upset the ecosystem somehow. Besides volunteering to cull hamsters, misidentifying macroalgae and merulina, what else do you do?
