i am using skimz now. just make sure to ask them to replace the air tube knob (not sure what you call that lol attached is a pic). the original is some transparant screw type that leaks air!! First time i used it overflow stopped working because of the air leak within 1 day! (well less than a day...left at 5pm and my friend came in at 4am to a slightly flooded office). changed to this and i usually only have to suck air once a week =p beside that the overflow box works great for me. my current set up is kinda like what you are considering canister to chiller to tank to overflow to sump. only fear is the overflow box air leak and stop working as such it would be best if the canister intake is placed at a higher level (for example the hook on type) so that even if overflow stopped working you won't have all your sump water on the floor the next day. another option is to have a back up...i have been toying with the idea of drilling a hole in the top of my tank. a small horizontal hole than glue half a cut plastic box to the external that has a pipe flowing down to sump.

just wondering if any bros managed to do it successfully here? and if so any tips. my first try following the advice on www.tigger-pods.com did not work now giving it a second try

Mandarin dragonet feeding question
nicreef replied to nicreef's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Haiz mandarin looks skinnier... Been throwing in Copepods tigger pods n arcticpods but I am not sure if he is eating. Add to the fact he is always hiding withing my rocks n it's hard to spot him... -
Hi yup. just updated. Also just enabled the weather effect. 2 x per day 60% chance. lightning effect kinda cool but i decided not to have it in the end but did make a video of it with some thunderstorm in background hehe. first lightning comes in only after 30 sec before that is only the light change =x

Hi there bro, i used it before. pretty good but must remember to becareful with dosage....i had 2 tank crashed before. first 1, i definately think is because i overdosed. 2nd time i think it is either slight overdose or because my light timer malfunctioned cause when i spoke to the person who sold it to me he was telling me when i dose that i must not use it with other products (even cheetos) and also make sure my tank light is not too strong.

a video of the side to side dance. kinda small will try to get a better one next time. "In its natural environment, the Yellow Line Shrimp lives in groups in small caves and crevices on the reef in locations called "cleaning stations." They use a side-to-side rocking dance to advertise the cleaning station to approaching "client fish" in the water column. Yellow Line Shrimp are reported to even climb inside gill cavities of welcoming fish to eat any parasites found there. It is not documented whether this shrimp's symbiotic relationship with client fish has successfully been reproduced in the home aquarium"

Hi thanks bro and also the folks at reef depot for dropping me a pm. Trying out the 14kk look they recommanded. ehh sorry bro dont mind if i ask coz i read in the manual say 4 inches from water. my tank depth is only 1 feet deep. currently i also hanging 8 inches. would that be good enough for a mix tank in the future?

darn now den i saw ur post... i already replaced the table with a spare 1 liao...this time added plastic sheet on it to prevent water from seeping onto it. if it happens again i will buy a stand. i really hope it wouldnt. kinda of troublesome...had to remove 3/4 of water, LR faster trf to pail. lift tank up to table, lift out current table (which in order to do so i had to move a lot of office furniture, than reverse the steps...took me half a day
-
hmm think i already have a inverted u shape coz the pipe that is coming in is kinda hanging on to my tank. not sure if that is what you meant hehe but anyway due to some problems with my table, i had to take water out of my tank and take out my rocks to move my tank and replace the table.. After i put it all back, somehow or another the bubble is all gone all of sudden hehe. think is because the cup is resting higher above the water liao. i am not too sure ;p

i was thinking about doing it once a month. currently monitering the nitrate in display tank and sump since my flow is display tank>overflow>sump>canister>chiller>display tank. so if nitrate from sump is much lower than display tank would probably be the canister already. been a up and down day. the up is i managed to spot my 2 new inhabitant attached is their photos. infact i even got to my yellow line glass shrimp doing his dance on video. gonna try upload later: They use a side-to-side rocking dance to advertise the cleaning station to approaching "client fish" in the water column. source: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+525+2859&pcatid=2859 the down is i realize there is water seeping out of my the bottom of my tank as see in the first picture. Hopefully it is just the hose from the overflow box that is leaking and not a crack in the tank... worst news is i probably have to replace the table holding the tank as it is damaged by water and i am afraid that the table would not be able to hold the weight of the tank. any idea on this? if say i have to remove all my stuff just to move the tank, i was thinking of just upgrading to a 2ft cube tank.

overflow to sump no need pump. den from sump > canister > chiller > display tank. the canister comes with pump (not sure if this is the way to describe it) so it pushes water to the chiller and back to display tank.

How to increase the PH level in the FOWLR tank
nicreef replied to I love angel's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
aquapharm pro series buffer 8.3 working well for me so far. ph raised from 7.7 to 8.1 after 1 full dose and 1 half dose -
yup i have but definately micro bubble. moment i off my inflow, everything is ok. inflow pipe is pointed into a cup right now before flowing out so disturbance to sandbed by it should not be the problem.

Hi, just got the aqua illumination vega (colour) set. currently using 100% on all colour except green at 95% and 5% on blue, royal and dark blue for night light. (followed this setting from henry of ML). wondering if anyone has any idea on what setting would be good for a mixed reef. tank size is 2ft by 1ft by 1ft.
-
Just changed my lights after talking to bro admiraltian. headed down to ML intending to get ati aquablue and blue plus. However, 2 x 24w bulb seems a little too much and got sold by him on getting the aqua illumination vega (colour) which according to its specs was designed for 24 inch x 24 inch which seems just nice to me (except that mine is 24 x 12, making me feel like increasing my tank size to a 24 x 18 or something just to make full use of the lights). Current lifestock: Blue Damselfish (just got together from ML) yellow line glass shrimp (just got from ML) false clownfish mandarin dragonet 3 x turban snail 3 x Trochus Snail 2 x bumble bee snail 1 x 2 head hammer 1 x plate coral 1 x green metallic mushroom (i think) 1 x refugium of tigger pods. Current equipment: Tank: 2ft x 1ft x 1ft + 2ft (height) x 1.5ft (diameter) rubbish bin wavemaker: tunze 6015 Lighting: aqua illumination vega (colour) Reactors: DD fluidised Media Reactor with erm (cant remember what i am using think puri 2 from aqua marine) effectively got my po4 down from 0.5 to 0 Bio pellet: NP bio pellet with reactor from ML skimmer: dymax ls 10 (probably getting a better one when i have the money) external filter: eheim professional 2 2026 chiller: Hailea hs 28a 1/10hp overflow box: Skimz Monzter OM2500 below are the images with the new lights. tank looks empty as all my liftstock less the clown fish are always shy...

hi, my plate coral started spewing some black stuff but after some search online i read that it was just poop with nothing to worry about. that was about a week ago. till today the black stuff still remains with some white skeleton cutting through. attached is a pic of the coral.
-
hmm dint work use my pipe to point out of water onto a portion of the rubbish bin before flowing down but bubbles still coming out as usual.
-
nice. i have been thinking about doing a shallow tank once i am done i with my current tank. looking at your makes me want to expedite my plans.
-
ahh ic...think that is where my error is at. i am currently placing the exit of my skimmer next to my intake (was thinking better to send as much water out of skimmer to tank) haha. kk. gonna try let the water exit upwards out from top of sump since that would essentially put it far away from my intake point which is right to the bottom.

How to increase the PH level in the FOWLR tank
nicreef replied to I love angel's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
hmm just nice i tested my ph and it was 7.7 so went down to shop. was looking for seachem marine buffer but the guy a bit blur blur and i was rushing for time in the end i got a aquapharm pro series buffer 8.3. The instructions say it will not raise to more than 8.3 too. anyone tried before?
