Hi guys, having problems with SPS and thought it could be because of my alk fluctuations. But first, i have to make sure i am using the test kit properly. Do you take the reading as soon as the water turn orange? or when it turns dark orange? also should i need to increase the alk? i have both coralline gro and the reef foundation B solution that comes with the test kit? which should i dose? was thinking coralline gro to promote coralline and also according to the instruction on the back it helps maintain at 8.4dkh (ie no need worry about over dose for my small tank?). + i am lost on how to use the dosage reading on the reef foundation B hehe
-
ok i will moniter the alk reading closely have a feeling you are right (was 9 few days back 7.8 today!!). any idea why is this so? and also what additive i should get to help me tackle the problem? i got read sea reef foundation B which came as part of the test kit and Coralline Gro (from red sea too). anything else i should get? and which would be better? read on the instruction that coralline gro maintains dkh at 8.4 (meaning it would not be above 8.4??). from their site: "To promote coralline algae in fish only or soft coral aquariums the alkalinity needs to be maintained at approximately 3 meq/L ( 8.4 °dKH ) and specific minor and trace elements need to be readily available."

same. i used to get their mixed water. was told they use fritz as such i got the same one too. seems like also not salt mix problem liao.... Yup. only other coral i have is 9 zoas, 2 hammer, 2 torch all of which has no problems.
-
No problem with the salt but cant think of anything else so just wanted to be sure haha To sum up, my water parameters should be ok (had a help from fellow reefer on testing mag, cal, dkh - can give more detail info later if needed kinda tight up by work right now). Quick details: ph 8.2, no2, no3, po4, ammonia all 0. Sal was kinda high before at 1.027. lowered it to 1.025 trying to get it to 1.023 - 1.024 by today. Lighting wise i am using aqua illumination LED lights setted up at 14kk look (reef depot info - not sure what it means lol but got a pm from them to try out this setting for mixed reef tank). placement of sps is on 3 different levels: lower end of tank, middle of tank and higher end of tank. all sps suffering from STN... do let me know of any other info needed

Thanks. Zoas are from my fav zoas purchase place in bedok reservior view from Cedric. His zoas always very nice =p will update again when the other 2 opens. For now more patient waiting.

Zaos opening a little today
-
Got it Currently the size has remained the same. It's old location has another zaos frag. Would see if I can relocate him somewhere lower. Cedric-sure will rmb to ask u the next time I visit ur place
-
Hi, this is one of my first zaos and it was opening and growing nicely. hower the polyps were stretching out as such i moved it to a higher area of lights. in the process of moving the zoas dropped off the frag plug and i had to search for some time to fish it out. using bsi gel, i glued the zaos back to frag plug and placed it on a higher location. this was 4 days ago but till now zaos still now opening. just wondering if it is ok or did the drop cause damage to it? or could it be light shocked?

tiny bubbles from return pump outlet
nicreef replied to Teh Soon Seng's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
if still have can try letting your water flow into a cup or container using a suction cup to hold onto the wall. have the cup a little above water. thats how mine managed to stop having micro bubble. -
thanks skimmer almost back to normal now... raised it heights and slowly lower down over the day. No more epoxy for me....
-
Nope. bought anemones and the rock came free. Was a nice piece so i thought i would keep it. I am now on glue gel zzzzzzzzZZZZZ. Accidently hit one of my supporting rock while adding in some zoas... end up the epoxy would not fit back haha... end up using some zoas with frag plug and glue to hold everything together... hope no mishap.....u can see the glue portion near the front of the rock.

Hi, used epoxy yesterday and my skimmer is still going berserk today (less than a minute for it to fill up and overflow). when it is sitted inside the sump, i used to have it at lowest point already as such i cant lower it anymore. i have just converted it to a hang on skimmer however, the bracket holding it is not really the most secure. did a google read up and it says most people have it for a day yet some forums have peeps complaining after 4 days! 1. any idea how long it will take for the skimmer to go back to normal? 2. is there anyway i can fasten the process? i already did a 30% water change. 3. would my tank be affected without the skimmer?
-
ok will do glueing them today. also will try getting another test kit or bring over to your place when i am getting zoas again reading today is now 9.5dkh the rest of my kits are salifert and readings have been stable. ca 450, no3 2ppm etc
-
also realized my tank is now 10.4 dkh not 8.7 (not sure if it is an error i did on my part during my first test as i did 2 test this time round). i dint dose or did any wc to my tank. would this flactuation affect my sps? testkit: redsea. attached is the sps in blue lighting for comparison.

Hi bro, i wanted to use another tank but in the end decided on the rubbish bin because i wanted to increase my water volume as i had 2 tank crashed when i added too much additives. figured higher water volume would make the tank a little more stable and less reactive to small overdose and allow me to fill my tank with more stuff definately not tank leakage. realized that the pipe from over flow to sump had a hole. replaced it and everything is ok now. should have added the styrofoam...zz got 2 in my office actually dunno why dint think of it. probaly will do it the next time i have to half empty my tank (hopefully not). my table is now covered by 1 big sheet of those book wrappers you can get at stationary store yup trying to curb my buying habit. nowadays just buy from ML (usually ask him for name and start googling) or fellow reefer (my zoas and sps are only from fellow reefer cedric). LPS are the only things i get from other places and thanks . trying my best on this tank. if it works ok would probably upgrade to larger shallow tank in few months time hehe.

AI vegas! but thought 1 unit is only enough for 2ft x 2ft since urs is a 7 x 3 4 set would cover the lenght but breadth of 3 would mean 1 ft is left under lighted? http://support.aquaillumination.com/entries/21998101-Frequently-Asked-Questions -
Hi, my overflow box has been workin ok for awhile (3-4 days of air sucking needed to clear the air in the box) but recently, air creeps into the system within a few hours. i have tried using sealent to seal up the hole but still air creeps in. The air intake which i used to suck the air out i usually leave it into a cup of water so that no air enters. anyone have the same problem? i do not want to come into office one day to find the overflow is filled with air and not working

how do i lower CA? it is now around 460 upon my last test minutes ago. NO3 down to 2ppm (using salifert test kit) 3rd day of frags in tank. is the fibre optic considered doing better? vs 2 days ago
