It is dark in color with some orangy spots and patches.

I have one that looked like this, can't really tell if its hairy or not. Sorry for the poor photo, pic kinda blur. Is it ok to leave it alone? Never really see it eats the acropora its attached to.

Water change, diatoms are brown algae, usually occurs in immature tank like yours. It is considered bad.
