  1. I have a 4 x 2 x 2 tank I'm selling. I upgraded to a rimless with low iron glass. Tank is not drilled, regular glass. It has a few light scratches from using a mag float to clean it. Scratches are light enough that the camera can't pick them up. The tank was made by All Glass Aquarium in the US. You will have to collect, I'm in Sembawang close to the shipyard and PSA. $150
  2. Thanks for the compliments. I moved here with the stand and another tank. Since I was starting the tank over I decided to buy a rimless with low iron glass and got ahold of Aquarium Artist. The glass is 12mm. The clarity of the second pic is probably a combination of the glass clarity, the camera on a tripod and getting a good white balance setting with the camera. Here are a few more close up pics.
  3. Booster pump increases the pressure which makes water faster and more efficient so less waste water goes down the drain. You can buy an electric pressure switch for booster pumps that turns the pump off when the float closes.
  4. That's the general idea, but mine had an air line nipple on top to attach the tube instead up running it up inside like the picture.
  5. Salinity 1.025 Nitrate 0 Phosphate .01 Calcium 500 Alk 10.2 Mg 1440 Reef Crystals Salt with no dosing. Using algae scrubber with no skimmer.
  6. I had a maxima under cree LEDs before I moved and it did just as well as when it was under 250 watt halides.
  7. I put LPS in right as soon as the tank cycled under LED. Mine is growing great. It comes down to having the water parameters right and stable.
  8. I vote algae scrubber. Scrubber is more work to build, but has worked more efficient at keeping nitrates and phosphates down for me.
  9. I've used a CPR overflow with aqualifter pump. Never any problems. The aqualifter keeps any air out so everything starts back up incase of power outage.
  10. I'm using hermits along with larger turbo snails (coral farm). Snails are doing a good job on the rocks. Hermits are working on the rocks and the sand. A lot of people recommend sea cucumbers but I've never had one. Peppermints for aiptasia but they tend not to eat larger ones (manual kill those). Haven't seen any in a while so hopefully some one else will post.
  11. Liquid additives I always added in the sump after the skimmer leaving it on. Any food, I turn off the main return pump and let the food circulate in the tank until eaten.
  12. Looks like it would work ok, but I'd try to work in some kind of backup incase of a float switch or solenoid failure.
  13. Sounds like Brooklynellosis. Formalin is the the recommended medication. Antibiotics won't help at all with the disease, only with secondary infections.
  14. My pH tends to run low, around 7.9. My research says don't worry about it. Calcium, alkalinity and magnesium are more important to watch.
  15. I'd add a couple of frags and see how it goes for a month. Same for the fish. I've had good luck with birdsnest on a newly set up tank in the past. Recommend some kind of auto top off with SPS.
  16. Here is my tank I had built a few months ago by Vincent from Aquarium Artist. It's 4 x 2 x 2 foot, low iron glass on three sides with internal overflow. MP40 for flow, Digital Aquatics Reefkeeper running everything. The lighting fixture was an Aquatraders I stripped out and is now LED. All Cree, 24 neutral white, 24 royal blue, 12 blue and 12 405nm uv/violet run by meanwell drivers. As an experiment I pulled the skimmer and I'm running an algae scrubber also using Cree LEDs (6 red and 1 blue per side). Most of the corals came from Golden Octopus and fish from Coral Farm. A Purple Tang is the center piece fish (LCK201). Vincent did a great job building the tank to my specs with the overflow set up herbie style with a gate valve at the bottom of the drain. Silicone job was perfect. My LPS is growing great and I plan on getting a few pieces of SPS shortly. I just moved here in January and the forum has been a great help finding the local fish/coral stores and my tank builder.
  17. An aquarium builder would be a better person to ask.  I had a 4 foot rimless/braceless built, but the builder gave me the impression 5 foot would be too long and would need bracing
  18. That's an orange sponge. I got one from coral farm also. You can buy some underwater putty to stick the rock it's attached to where you want it. I just wedge mine in the rock. Sponges are actually an invertebrate, not a coral. It doesn't sting, just feels prickly. Don't let algae grow on it. If it turns white looking, it's dying. I wouldn't cut it off its rock until you are sure it's doing well. Sponges aren't always the easiest thing to keep.
  19. I get all of my acrylic from Dama Enterprise. They cut while you wait. Good selection. http://www.dama.com.sg/acrylic.htm
  20. Post a pic. I go to Coral Farm a lot, but can't picture what coral you are talking about. As for the fish, they should be quarantined before going into your tank. Coral Farm fish are fairly healthy compared to some shops, but I still see signs of ich and dead fish in their tanks. While quarantined the main tank can cycle. If you already put them in, then do frequent water changes for a couple of weeks.
  21. Vincent made my 4 foot tank also. Highly recommend.
  22. I just bought 39 kilos of Australian from Coral Farm. Some of the best rock I've seen. It's $16 per kilo. I'm not convinced it should be called live rock since all it gets is some water sprayed on it, but being able to pick out the exact pieces I wanted was worth the price. I picked my pieces, made a mock up of what I wanted the tank to look like right there, weighed and boxed, and took it home.
  23. CF had purple tangs yesterday. Not sure on the sohal. LCK 201 had a lot of purples, $65, $75 and $95 I think she said. I got a small one for $65.
