Cant help with ur filter but regarding Usage of filters for marine tank, its more abt worrying that ur bio filter will become a nitrate factory as debris are all collected at that point. I personally feel that as long u rmb to clean and maintain the filter regularly, it shld be fine using a filter... Hope i've helped...

I use henry's reef gourmet with self added frozen cyclopeeze and sometimes add aquarium munster pellets in it... Be warned that most cyclopeeze will end up everywhere rather than ur fish's stomach as its really tiny...

Hmmm usually its btwn 8.0-8.4 with 8.2-8.3 optimum for most livestocks... Slowly increase ur chips if not enough... Btw ur using the reef buffer from seachem right? I understand that there's a liquid reef carbonate from seachem also... Can try alternatives like reef salts/ dose element nutrients like calcium, magnesium, etc...

Just to update, though not fast growth, my up aqua cheap led fixture actually managed to keep my chaeto and gracilaria alive and growing when i checked yesterday! its arnd 2 times when i first got it... No brown out at bottom either since its in my HOB filter without tumbling... its arnd 5cm from the water surface to the algae and depth or around 10cm...

If ur talking abt open brain, the parameter is harmless, only at the point where the 2 colours meet, has really short tentacles...
