rimless 4ft possible?
lauterbrunnen replied to lauterbrunnen's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Thanks a lot for the inputs. Can someone recommend a tank maker that can do this rimless 4ft for me? i emailed vincent but no reply. probably he finds it as too small business since i only want the plain vanilla tank + stand/cabinet. -
rimless 4ft possible?
lauterbrunnen replied to lauterbrunnen's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
hey guys.. sorry sorry i made a mistake on the dimension, it is actually 4 ft x 1.5 ft (45cm) x 1.5 ft and the tank is the one with no connection in front (i think called 1 piece?). basically it is glued on at the 2 sides behind only. i plugged in the above numbers to CFOh's recommended site and it says glass thickness should be at 6mm. the one at the shop is around 10mm. will it hold? thanks again if any experience on this that can be shared. -
Hi Folks, I am planning to upgrade from 2ft to 4ft tank. I saw this rimless 4ft x 1.8 ft x 1.8 ft with roughly 10 mm glass at one of the LFS. It looks exactly the same as my rimless 2 ft so it really caught my eye. Anyone of you have any experience using this type of tank? I heard from a colleague who is into Arowana that 4 ft tank and above must have the braces to make it stable. And I saw this tank at an LFS selling fresh water fish so I am even more concerned if this is feasible in salt water? I read somewhere that salt water density is higher so the force to the glass is stronger?? Thanks in advance for the inputs.

Hi Guys, where to buy egg crate? searching high and low but can't find. I've checked the LFS at Pasir ris, yes they have it and it's currently in use but they don't sell.. I just need to a small piece to put the filter cloth on :-)

i also live in the east and just started with this hobby 6 months ago. so far i only use tap water with no problems. probably because i don't have those high tech corals. only have gonio, zoa, gps and mushrooms.

Aggressive and territory bicolour dottyback
lauterbrunnen replied to Tian85's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
i have exactly same problem as yours. my wrong move is i put the goby as my last fish so now the dottyback pesters him. very difficult to catch the dottyback so i ended up moving the goby to my sump. i like the dottyback very much! the way it goes inside/out the LRs. -

tie a string on an empty water bottle (poke some holes on the bottle to sink) with a bit of food and put inside the tank. once the goby goes in the just pull it up. that's how i caught my dotty back :-). you can pass me the goby once captured ;-)

Hi Guys, Just want to get some advice on how to keep your substrate clean. I converted to a sump using the DIY PVC overflow from HOB filter. But now I noticed all the dirt keep getting stuck on the sand bed because the overflow only skims the surface of the water. Last time the HOB filter intake is submerge halfway in the tank so it's getting the sand dirt. I have one wavemaker now to keep the water moving. Should I put one pointed at the sand to stir it up? I also bought snails, hermit crab but they are not cleaning enough. I have a brittle star but it only cleans the part near its area :-(. Or in reality the sand bed is really never clean??

Hi, Selling my Eheim 2042 filter used only for 1 month. All parts, accessories are intact and in excellent condition. I've converted to sump already so have to let go. Price : 30$ - Collection at Sengkang http://www.eheim.asia/prod_eheim_filter_hangon.html
-
nope. the first overflow is already eating up space in the tank i'll just use the float switch to turn off the pump as safety. actually so far the overflow is very stable.
-
whoa nice! unfortunately i ordered those from ebay already at only 2$ but i think waiting time will be looong.

Hi Folks, I've just put in a sump in my system using the DIY PVC overflow pipe. Now I am a bit worried in case the overflow gets stuck and my return pump keeps on feeding water to main tank. Now I plan to put a fail safe using a float switch in the main tank to stop the pump in case reaches a certain level. I've checked the float switch at Sim Lim and it's a whooping 60$. I've seen some threads that bought it at 18$ Can anyone point me to that place? Online it's 6.99 USD - http://www.aquahub.com/cgi-aquahub/sb/order.cgi?rd=1&storeid=*126defa89c821c789641db&sbid=SSMSB1313463006.21384&redirect=yes TIA.

may i know where you got the BM QQ and how much?

Hi Guys, After doing some research on the BH-1000 I found out that it's an overkill for my 2 ft tank (20 gallons). Some sites say that over skimming is also not good because it will take away the nutrients needed by the corals. I tried looking for the smaller version BH-100 but looks like it's not available anymore. Is there an alternative brand that you guys can recommend? I think Deltec is out of my budget . What I'm thinking is if I go with the BH-1000 I'll just run it with a timer running 8 hrs per day. Is that a good idea?

thanks for ID. I'm wondering how it can survive there at the LFS where the light is quite low. Definitely, it's not high light from what I saw.
