  1. Thanks for the feedback and why the 100% in and out did not occur to me. I prefer the idea of cleansed water back into the display tank. I read somewhere for uv to work, need to follow the guided flow rate for uv to effectively kill the bacteria...
  2. Hi reefers, I would like to call for some ideas for an optimized water routing to place a skimmer, UV and FR in a 3 parts sump. This is a LPS setup for 3 ft tank. Currently my idea is: Compartment 1 (down flow from tank) in sump inflow to skimmer outflow from skimmer to UV UV out to sump compartment 2 >>> 1 x PUMP Compartment 2 in sump inflow to FR (bio pellets) outflow from FR >>> 1 x Pump Compartment 3 in sump [*]outflow to chiller >>> 1 x Pump Finally, chiller back to main tank. Total 3 pumps needed. Welcome feedback.
  3. Hi reefers, I am shopping for a chiller at reasonable price and does the job decently for my 3 feet tank and 2 feet sump. Shortlisted this and would like to hear some feedback from reefers whom are and tried using it. Thanks in advance.
  4. Very good point on the rock shape, linko and gouldian. I'm going to be super selective on the rock shapes to be cooked for the restart. And thanks for all other suggestions from other bros. My plan is to follow the original cooking idea without h2o2, heavy scrubbing and soaking, air and sun dry for 4 weeks, then start cycling. Then cultivate corAline algae, make sure the rocks are purpled up before adding corals and fishes. Hopefully, I can have a 'deep purple' tank... The GHA really pissed me off, have this strong urge to burn them to ashes every day I see them in the tank. Deep hatred for this pest.
  5. Btw, I have a UV sterilizer too...tried the algae scrubber option too...invested so much time, energy and money and still lost to these hairy green monsters... Simply amazing! In my new project, thinking of covering all my dead rocks with coralline algae first before introducing livestock. Though takes longer, but I'm sure the outcomes are rewarding...
  6. Do u mean rewards instead of awards? I am doing zoas, yumas and rics. I am doing a major "house keeping" this weekend and passing my assets to my buddy reefer whom introduced this amazing hobby to me a year ago. Decision already made to overhaul the tank and systems to annihilate any traces of GHA. I still have 2 more days to think thru if I should use h2o2 to chemical cook the rocks... Lots of rocks to scrub...about 80kg...gonna be a super tiring weekend...
  7. Thanks for the link, Linko. In my case, it was definitely GHA. I simply do not know the reasons why they thrived even though I did the following: 1) Phosban reactor 2) Weekly 20% water (distilled) change 3) 6hrs of HOT5 (2 x 39W) daily (new light sets since June 2012); 4) Weekly dosage of Algaefix or It's clear 5) Fish feeding - 1 cube of mysis and small cube of Henry gourmet daily 6) Zero NO3 and PO4 readings with API and Tropic Marine testkits respectively Despite all the above, the GHA still thrive and grew on my LRs. Weekly manual scrubs also no use. Super annoying!
  8. Hi, after 2 consecutive accidents (GHA infestation and Hydrogen Sulphide poisoning), I have decided to restart with no sand bed and using cooked rocks. I have came across some literature in cooking rocks in reef central and reeftank, and wanted to seek Singapore-based reefers' experiences in the cooking of rocks. After the accidents, I have removed the LRs, dipped overnight in tap water and scrubbed off the dead matter and blast them with jets of water to clear as much matter as possible. After that, they are air-dried and sun whenever I have the chance for the last 4 weeks. I have not started any rock curing process or tank cycling. Want to seek some inputs here first. Is my rock cooking method ok? I suspect it is not and there may still be dead matters and PO4 in them. One additional step (from other forums) for me to consider is to bleached them with H2O2, rinsed many times, sun and dry them first before use. But I do not want to run the risk of chemical poisoning. Or should I play safe and start with artificial rocks? Many thanks.
  9. Are we having a stock out situation in Singapore? Anyone has an idea where I can get it's clear and coralline accelerator? I checked with some LFS and stock out.
  10. Hi reefers, are there any digital probes offering at Comex platform (based on past event history)? Thanks in advance.
  11. actually, i did not net the fries. the father just release them at holes and corners, to prevent predators from reaching them. but the fries wriggle out and the cardinals went for them. i used a big net to cover the nest as much as possible to prevent predators from attacking the fries. and the father can still release them with peace. i observed this morning that there are still some fries attached to the nest walls and hopefully, they would be safe. i have no intentions to separate the fries from main tank and leave it to mother nature and hope the lucky ones can survive the harshness. 12. Thanks. Hopefully things turn out fine...and give me a surprise...
  13. Caught this on video tonight - the father springeri damsel releasing the fries from the nest. These fries were conceived with the mating between the male springeri and female yellowtail. Too many predators in my tank and you can see the cardinal making 'supper plans'.... Off the lights and place a giant fish net over the rocks overnight, hoping to increase the survival rate...
  14. Thanks for the inputs, bezz. And yes, I mixed 50% H2O2(3% concentration) and 50% tank water. And I dip the zoa with hair algae for 5 mins. Then remove it and dipped into pail of distilled water. the hair algae dropped off seamlessly...super! The bath:
  15. The one sold at pharma is 3% concentration. Think I will experiment today.
  16. Hi reefers, I know there are a lot online sharing which indicate the success of using hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) dip to get rid of hair algae and harmless to zoas. Anyone tried the same dip with mushrooms, yumas and rics? any disaster cases where these corals are killed after the dip? Thanks.
