just checked my phosphate 3 times using hanna checker. 0 ppm detected. macro algae the way to go but need careful trimming and 24/7 lighting
-
Extract this from website: The last method of phosphate removal is via the macroalgae populated refugium. The refugium is essentially Grape Caulerpa an aquarium located under and plumbed to the display aquarium. Of course, the location is a personal preference, but they all serve the same function…and that is to grow algae. Algae feeds off excess nutrients like nitrates and phosphates. Hence the algae outbreak in the display aquarium when phosphate levels climb. With a refugium, you can control the location of algae growth to some extent. It grows out of site in the refugium and helps keep your display aquarium clean and algae-free. Two popular algae used in the refugium are Caulerpa and Chaetomorpha. They are similar in their requirements, but each has its drawbacks and advantages. For more information on Caulerpa and Chaetomorpha, see Chaetomorpha vs Caulerpa, a previous article we wrote. Simply prune the algae back once it starts to grow out of control and donate the rest to another aquarist who is just starting up or having algae issues in their aquarium.

Why chaeto? Keep macro algae for natural phosphate removal as well. I m keeping grapes. Though there is a saying of it will go sexual but this can be control by 24/7 lightings. My phosphate has reduced from 0.09 to 0.02 after grapes introduction. Tested by Hanna checker. Food for thought.

Bubble algae infestation!
Killerwhale replied to KELVINx3's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Suggest u start to remove them now before it spread like wild fire. For my case, I saw one in my tank 1 yr ago and it cover almost all my live rock within months. Very scary. -
Bubble algae infestation!
Killerwhale replied to KELVINx3's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Agree. Is a painful lesson for me. I have to empty my tank and rebuild everything to 99% remove all the visible bubbles algae. For reef, u got to measure and check all the parameters regularly and partial water change. That's the only solution. -

I have just bought checkers from Hanna. It works great and very easy to use. More important is that the reading is accurate. Thanks Henry.
