I apologize for not being clear with my intentions. I meant to say those Calcium, Mg, St, kh, and other trace elements - will these deplete over time? if it does, is it significant? if it doesn't, is such saltmix kept overtime develop any negative conditions to the water? The scenario as, using tap water for saltmix. (added with prime). After WC, the remaining of the drum kept for the next WC or top up.

u just need to apply the correct method when using epoxy. especially when dealing with large pieces of rock. epoxy is much cheaper.

how about self mix saltwater kept in drums/jerrycan? will the nutrients deplete overtime, say a week.

you may want to adopt this method if situation is bad, http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/nitratecontrol/ss/sbsnitratereduction_2.htm what i read from many hobbyists is that water change at 20/30% every few days doesn't help, as the intervals allows those toxic to buildup again. the link shows a very daring move to reduce no3 n p04 and other toxic in a one shot attempt, but u need to have alot alot of water to do so. The best i tried is manage to change 60% in am and 40% in pm. it does bring down n03 down swiftly. after then i readjust my feeding and introduce media to control n03 n p04. (started biopellets, rowa and vodka)

i suggest, reduce feeding and regular water change at larger %.

thats why china brand only give 6 months warranty. whilst teco give 1yr, and artica give 2 yrs. (might need correction)

i suppose it can repair but not worth it. the parts + labour, you may as well get new ones as they are already cheap.

i see. i didn't notice the difference type of wattage consumption from the labels on the chillers. anyway, no changes i did to the tank during the change of chiller. whatever the case is which might be saving the bills as well... i'm satisfied with the results.

you are correct, they are different brand. my 1/4 is a teco. the 1hp is a hailea. note they are of significant size difference. Yes, i think they (US/EURO brands) are more effective when comparing their chiller of the same size. but, in this case, as much as choosing the right size of chiller for the same tank. i had proven for my case, using a oversized chiller in account to the specifications of the chillers is a good move.

just to share, my 100G is using 1/4hp, takes, 1 hr when activated, rest for 2 hrs. bills is $210-$220. (temp at 27) then I change to 1 hp, activate for 40mins, rest for 5hrs. bills at $160. (temp at 26) thereafter, I believe in using an oversized chiller.
