i just fix it up this morning. but it isnt skimming >_< I think the tricky part is the air inlet and the 'unexpected brown valve'. I checked some pics online. they did just like you guys suggested. but the water will gush out from the brown valve instead. i suppose the i got the connection wrong somewhere, which i dont know. I've taken it out and check on the beckett inlet, and see how it goes from there.

i actually tried that approach. ie. attaching the tube to the valve, which is drawn by the yellow arrows. However, instead of sucking air in, the water came out from the brown valve and is drawn to the air inlet and overflowing from there.

hi all, the picture shown is the inlet of the skimmer. and right below it, is a hole (light brown). what is that for? water kept coming out while running. and, the small cup with the blue sponge attached which i believe is e air inlet. does it connect to something? PS: my friend gave me this, he never used before, so he can't help either. hope some skimmer guru can assist ! thanks!!

i anti chlorine the tap water, and only do top up. so far so good. parameters are checked regularly and doesn't run out of hands. top up like once a month or slightly longer. learn that distilled water is better. where to buy? those in supermarket can?

Will adding tap water directly to the tank will screw up the entire tank? Well, my dad add aplenty of tap water to the tank while I wasnt around. Am i going to expect deaths or even a crashed system? Many thanks for the dear inputs.
