How long do u take to service? For chiller, I never service except clean the filters. I think it depends on the water capacity. Service of chiller wouldn't be more than 2hrs. U can observe your thermostat to see how long yr temp raises to estimate if there is a need to find alternatives to chill down the water. Else u can use those 1.5l soda drink bottle, fill with water n put in freezer. Once the water inside the bottle freezes , u can submerge them in yr sump.

I know to raise the orp, I had dump in 1500g of carbon into my filter sock. Overnite my orp went from 290 to 400+. But what came next was sps start to bleach. So besides sudden raise of kh would endanger the sps, orp will too. Overall I think carbon is used as a media to neutralize "poison", I think for tanks with only hard corals dun need them. But tanks with hard n soft corals would need them. This is my personal observation of my tank.

Was trying to clean my glass this morning. My magnetic cleaner is attached outside of the water. So just the normal pull cleaner down into water and clean, L shaped path. Felt the scratching vibration from the cleaner. Immediately stopped and released the cleaner and allow the wet portion of the cleaner to float up to the water surface. Found a bloody chiton had somehow find its way into the middle portion of the cleaner. WTF?!!!! Anyone knows who provides the service of scratch removal?

I know there's a lfs in the west has lots of them in the tanks. Make sure u dun Dump their water in your tank. I use the transparent long tube attached to a silicon airtube to dislodge n pick them up one at a time. Damn tedious job. U find tat their propagation rate will reduce drastically. The light also plays a part. My gen1 radion with the programming I used encourages their growth rate. With kessil, u can see significant drop in growth rate.

my bk skimmer pump failed on me after 2yrs 4 mths. Prior to buying a bk, I was told by a local seller that motor block failure is a common problem. I also found out from reef central that this is true. Why I proceed to buy online the bk is I never expect I would be so "lucky" n indeed I am. If I buy a new identical pump from bk, it would be 512euros. Well after emailing to makers of bk, I decided to look at other brands of skimmer pumps. The bk skimmer body built quality is awesome but when u get a skimmer, it is important to have a reliable pump as well. Take note of how the skimmer body is made. U can easily distinguish cheap plastics n quality acrylic. Those body that dun have glued lines, meaning single piece moulded are more expensive. Cheap looking skimmers still performs. It's only a feel good factor when u look at a quality skimmer sitting in your sump. So when u r choosing a skimmer, u can look at these features. Reef octopus skimmers are good too. I like their new Prime series though no one has buy it yet so u need to decide if u r willing to take the risk. The few brands recommended by reefers are also good. Lastly, dun forget the skimmer footprint and the height required so u can remove the collection cup easily.

FINALLY !! The replacement pump for my bk double cone has arrived! And it is not going to be another overrated & highly priced bk pump. And the replies I got from royal exklusiv further made me never to spend my hard earned $$ on another bk pump. As a consumer, the expectation of a high prices item, u expect it to perform at the very least, reliability. Ok, enough of the ranting. Now it is doing a short review on the 2014 Reef Octopus dc 5500s pump. Am grateful to David of Span aquarium for indenting this pump for me before my long overseas trip. Couldn't take the risk of running a reef tank without a skimmer. Behold the 2014 reef octopus dc 5500s skimmer pump. It also comes with a nice silicon tube for the air intake. Height wise, the reef octo 2014 dc 5500s is lower than the bk pump. Temporary used 2 empty cd casing which increased its height to perfectly match the intake of the skimmer body Base of the reef octo pump. Detachable. Had opened fully my wedge pipe. It's been 17 days without a skimmer operating. As my bioload is low & less, so thankfully no causalty. And today, my replacement skimmer pump has finally arrived!! Maybe u can reduce yr carbon dosing? So fast fish die? No enough oxygen due skimmer not running and bacteria colony competes for oxygen? The pump u have has an internal circuit board, which I was told has a high failure rate. My assumption is tats why production has stopped for these models.
