New tank, need advices
LittleBurger replied to LittleBurger's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I never aerate/ciculate them. Normally I bring whole family go to CF jalan jalan & also an educational trip for my daughter. So once I buy them, when I reach home, I will immediately do water change. So I need to aerate them b4 changing? Yr tank even larger than mine.... guess PUB will charge u for "water conservation" fee deep deep. Yr salt probably will be 2 pails of 20+kg. If like tat, need to call CF to check out if they do delivery riao.... Thanks bro. -
New tank, need advices
LittleBurger replied to LittleBurger's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Another question on the fresh water for mixing salt. I calculated that my tank plus sump tank is abt 680litres. I am planning to buy O2 distilled water 1500mlx12 per carton. I calculated I will need abt 38cartons....... Is my calculation right? Can't imagine 38 cartons sitting in my living room, all the empty bottles.... Planning to keep SPS, LPS. So am wondering for pple with <1xx gallons tank with SPS, do u change water with salt mixed or NSW? All along I've been going CF & buy about 4packs of water per trip plus at the same time looksee the LS. Anyone care to advice? Thks. -
thought got those shrimps like fresh water type. Sheng siong live prawns too gigantic. Maybe get 10plus sexies n put in.

I need some opinions on the selection of pump model of reef oct. Tank size is 3x3x2. The 2 models in consideration are 3000 & 5000 series. I am planning to have 2 return pumps, A & B. Currently, my choice is 2 same pump model. Return pump A will tee to 2 H2Ocean FR. Return pump B will tee to Teco TR15 & FR educator. I have calculated the head loss for both pumps. It seem 3000 is too weak(my personal opinion) and 5000 is too strong. 3000 flow rate after head loss is 341.16gph. 5000 flow rate after head loss is 620.79gph. Which pump is more suitable? Thanks!!!

aquarium artist tank set up

I think everyone deserves a 2nd chance.... Frankly speaking, he was my 1st choice at the very beginning. I emailed him for a basic quotation in Sep and after waiting for a few days no reply. Decided to call him for quotation. However, everytime he said he will email me the quotation... but never happen. So I became the "salesman" and became the constant caller for business, if u understand wat I meant. Recently a thread started titled "tank maker decision" probably creates a ripple effect. I finally got his email reply....in Nov. I guess someone might have reflected this saga to him. But I already selected my tank maker, not Vincent, and wow, I am so grateful that the turn of events had led me to a great & honest tank maker.... -

Got this from http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2007/5/aafeature2. It is the same as the calculator on reefcentral. However from advancedaquarist website, it had listed down the steps to add in new pumps. I've tried adding bubble blaster pumps 3000 to 7000. Works like a charm.

For tank turnover, I guess with an MP40w plus 2 return output into tank should be enough. So sump turnover, so that's the terminology used. I've tried removing the filter wool under my drain pipe and the FR pump will pump water to the FR and the filter wool inside the FR will get clog up easily. So for gravity feed to FR, I feel it will be the same. So having filtered water at return pump then tee to FR, I think should reduce the clog up in FR. As this is sort of my upgrade, I want to have an energy efficient tank. Tat's one of the reason why I decided to go with 3x3x2 rather 4x3x2. Read so many pple decom due large tank. Large tank the power bills alone can be quite a deterrent. Am choosing all energy efficient stuffs. Am thinking of 3 plan. 1) Get a 7000 bubble blaster pump and tee to the 3 FR & chiller. 2) Get 2 pcs of 3000 bubble blaster pump and tee to 3 FR & chiller 3) Get 2 pcs of 5000 bubble blaster pump and tee to 3 FR & chiller. For option 1, I'm afraid the pump will overwork. Leaning towards option 2 & 3. For option 2, power consumptin is 74watts! even lower than my ehiem 1262! Con is head pressure at 7.5ft. For option 3, power consumption is 120watts. Pro is if my flow is too high, I can adjust down using a valve at the pump output, this will also lower the power consumption. Pocket will burn.... Sump turnover rate....hmm... The 2 FRs is DD brand, Ken told me about 600l/h will do. The other Fr is Endu something, flowrate about 1000l/h. teco TR15 Chiller abt 800l/h.

U're rite. I want to cultivate live food mainly. nutrient export is secondary. I do hope with the FRs & big refugium, I can have a big safety net for water pollution. Does have the thought of buying few live prawns from Sheng Siong and put in refugium, hopefully they mate & spawn.... I have been reading a few websites & some take the wavemaker's flow in the calculation of the turnover rate. Am thinking to have an efficient "water purification", more water from tank should be cycled down to the sump for purification. The wavemaker is used to stir the debris in the water, but for the debris to be effectively sucked to the overflow, a stronger pump will need to be used rite? So if tank is 100gal, then the return pump flowrate will be 1000gal(to have 10x). tat's my thought. My sump design has already catered to 2 return pumps. Looking at total return pump flow rate of around 6000 plus litres. But I want to tee off the return pump to my 3 FRs & 1 chiller. So don't know should get a single strong pump & tee off to all the 3 Frs & chiller or get 2 returns & tee off 2 Frs(1 pump) 1 Fr & chiller (another pump)....

Am planning for my new tank. Using the aquarium tools posted here, my total water volume is abt 575 - 596l(include main tank n sump. sump tank size is 34" x 28". Will have 3 FR for carbon, rowa n biopellet, 1 Skimmer. Will try to have as large a refugium within the sump, Madpetz refugium mud depth 2inches. So when u select a return pump flowrate, do u minus away the water volume displaced by sand, Lr? This will have a better estimation? am thinking of bubble blaster 5000 or 7000. Thks.

This type of shrimp always kah jiao n snatch away food frm corals. Fire shrimp better. Normally fire shrimp always hide, but mine always are seen moving around but never snatch food frm corals. Guess they also like humans, some shy, some gd n some bad. Only problem is they losing their bright red to dark red. Wonders y....
