Maintenance of the easy fit ball valve. The most evil marine pests caught
LittleBurger replied to Underwater's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Actually if u can tahan dun add any fish into tank, without hosts, its easier to bait them. So far I try this method sure to catch them. But for fishes with isopods on them, hopefully they will dislodge their grip and go for the bait. U use zoom in on the isopods, look like quite big sia. -

On auto feeding. Installed the auto feeder to the acrylic feed bowl. U can feed the fishes when not around and the pellets will not float into the overflow. http://s160.photobucket.com/user/waterbottle_23/media/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1180_zpsdg18hjk8.jpg.html'>http://s160.photobucket.com/user/waterbottle_23/media/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1181_zps7t3azwbb.jpg.html'> -
Setting up shop for a Rimless 3by3by2

On air circulation in the sump and electrical area. All the fanciful led fans became faulty due to marine environment. Boxer fans were used. One to blow air into sump area and another to suck out air from the sump area. The fans were 3000rpm but humidity in the sump and electrical area was high. Water droplets on the piping and dampness is observed on the power cables. One boxer fan has its input power short circuited and tripped my breaker. U will feel the heat when u open up the cabinet to access the sump. New project is get the 6" ventilation fan, 25waits. As previously I have a hole cut out at the bottom, I've directed the outlet facing the hole blowing towards the floor. The inlet will be sucking all the air in the sump and electrical area. A simple protection screen made. Primarily when u open the cabinet doors, u don't feel the warmth anymore. With all cabinet doors closed, u put a piece of tissue paper at the door vents, you will be able to see the tissue being suck to the door vents. -

One of the most tedious job besides water change is changing of rusty hinges. To add more problem to it, u can't find the same hinges used during the construction of the cabinet. So the screw holes may not align. To further add more problem, the access space to remove the old rusty hinge is not enough. Example below;http://s160.photobucket.com/user/waterbottle_23/media/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1172_zpsfvtfntgb.jpg.html'> In order to remove the screws to rusty hinge, I need to stop all return pumps, disconnect return pump lines, drain water from sump so as to move the sump tank to create accessible space for the ratchet tool. -

Bro, get a clear bottle or container, poke some holes, tie a string to the container and drop into the bottom of tank at night. Put some pieces of shrimp meat in the container. After an hour, use a torch and shine at container. If there are isopods, pull string to take out container. The holes dun make to big cos later when u pull out the isopods might flow out thru the holes. Repeat a few times till no more. -
saw one at ah Beng last time.

My Jbj auto top up has one of its sensor faulty. Seems like the lfs dun sell replacement. Passed by sim lim and chanced upon a float switch, cost $20. Left is new float, right is old, always sense open circuit. Slight problems 1)The wire for the new float switch is too short so can only be used for sump water level check, and not for fresh water top up tank's pump stop as wire will be submerged in water. 2)Previously I attached a sensor to a magnet just like a tunze pump. But somehow the magnet will affect the new sensor functionality, making it totally not working.

I dun mind upgrade but worry later ecotech chut another pattern take out red led n put more white. LED suppose to be cost saving and long lastin, not every yr spend few Hundred every year to upgrade the led when the led are still less than their lifespan.
-
Hi, anyone upgraded yet? Been awhile from reefing. Have read from reefcentral abt the fishes and corals look "artificial" under it. Colors are great but maybe in the sea, they are not this brightly colored. Also nobody using 100% cos too strong. We dun need so high par. What are your views?

Just checked my kh & it's at 4.5. Am quite surprised everything still looks ok with low kh. Didn't check ca & mg. My biopellets is almost gone. Corals under the light still grows but color is out. As compared to using biopellets, i always get cyano n sps bleaching. Decided to tidy up my tank and removing all reactors. After my 2nd radion fan replacement, i've yet to install the radion light over my tank as i'm battling with the bloody green bubbles. Have observed tat without my main light, the reproduction rate is much much slower. And planning to eradicate all bubbles before installing the radion. -

many lfs sell uv sterilizer. On the box, it will show the water vol the sterilozer supporting. There are china brands n atas brand, prices ranging from 10 + dollars to 1k +. Good or bad between br@nd not really sure. They have their marketing and depends u comfortable wif which.

My 2 part kh when added to tank, there will be a moment of cloudiness n then clear up. I was expecting the same for the powder form.
-
so did u observe any cloudiness formed when the kh is dosed?
-
Wish to ask if anyone knows how to distinguish these 2 powders. I suppose adding a kh solution into seawater, u would see "clouds" forming but not Ca. Am i right on this? I was mixing my kh powder, saw some white "cappucino" forming at surface & looks weird so use a dropper n put some into my tank. No "cloud" form. If kh does form clouds n not Ca, then i would suppose the label on the container is wrong.

It's been 2 mths plus tat my mainlight Kaput. Tank listed by 2 par38 bulbs. Tank plagued by red flatworms n green bubbles. My dosing system ca n kh bottles r empty for about 1mth. Observations I found 1)that red flatworms seems attracted to or reproduce under strong light. Huge population under areas shine by my par38 led light but little on dark areas. 2)the cubes additives ca, trace elements n iodine are still well shaped, never reduce much in size. My remaining sps got 4types n some lps still looking ok. Didn't measure ca, kh & mg. So the question I have is do we really need kh at 8. So decided to experiment with no dosing n just using the cubes additives. No kh will be added. -
anyone got such issue with your Radion light?
LittleBurger replied to LittleBurger's topic in Product Reviews
hi bro, its been a while. The fan replacement is 80sgd. The support for radion is truly ... no local spares for fan hope tat the distributor do more. 3wks no main light, clams gone, sps gone. Just so damn frustrating when it cost more to get expensive equipments but distributor never provide support to local lfs. Im taking timeout from reefing. Stupid green bubble algae n flatworm out of no where too. All shit happens at the same time. -

but seems like a yearly event for me. Fan broke down in 2012 during warranty. After replacement, broke down in 2013. Ecotechmarine uses which brand fan. Failure rate so high...
