  1. there is a bunch of algae growing on my favia...it was originally there when purchased but the coral was healthy...i have it for almost 2 months now and the algae is killing the polyp by growing over it,half the polyp is algae now. Any suggestion on how to save the favia? Will coral rx help? All help and advice is appreciated.
  2. i find that fishes are the ones that shit the most...so u may not need a skimmer if u dont have any fish but again that really depends...regular testing will tell. Hope to see my pics cheers
  3. nah uv doesnt help much...i have uv but its doesnt make much of a change...i dipped my regal tang in fresh water but it died anyway...i have to agree with rockfish, good water quality n good food.
  4. then just add a mini powerhead or a stronger filter
  5. u may want to use biohome or other similar products...biohome works quite well for me. Yeah, a lousy skimmer is better than no skimmer. Any new addition of ls?
  6. You can actually use fans to cool the temp but the evaporation rate will be high so u can either to top-off manually, get a ATO or use gravity drip system. For skimmer...if u have space get a prizm if not a tunze nano doc or boyu wg308 or a small airstone skimmer...for small tanks u may not need a wavemaker but that really depends...
  7. zoas are the easiest to me...actually most corals are hardy...soft is easier than stony since u dont have to add and moniter calcium as much.
  8. Nay too lazy...still stocking my tank. The fishes in my tank are quite similar except i only have one clown and i dont have the hawkfish...
  9. OH! You use the arcadia submersible led too? I use mine for the refugium, growing turtle weeds in the refugium
  10. I keep an acro at the top of the tank. The lighting is quite sufficient...the specs for jbj and colourful is the same just different brand name and mine comes with a skimmer, uv and a less attractive price tag...yup agreed, nanos is the only way i can balance hobby, CCA and studies
  11. lol mine isn't jbj but similar....jbj 24gal discontinued liao so i bought a similar one from aquamarin...band is colourful. Very similar
  12. If your fishes dont die and your corals expand and your parameters are right....then its healthy
  13. Its not going to be affordable. Maybe u can set up a huge tank full of sps corals that will supply you a consistent supply of frags for your butterfly to eat but that is unlikely to work since acros dont grow that fast either that or u need ALOt of sps colonys....how is your butterfly now
  14. Nice tank...seems a little overcrowded compared to mine. LOl. I noticed you have a long nose hawkfish in the first pics. Would you care to share on your stocking list?
  15. sunflower has longer skirting cheers interesting...could you recommend any source of information concerning names and how to differentiate similar morphs...or is it just spread through words of mouth
  16. depends on what species u keep...
  17. In my opinion, they look pretty much the same...but i think sunflower has brighter colours... hi zoa gurus, hope to get ur comments on this zoa - name (if any), nice or ugly (throw away?), worth a million?, whatever, it would be nice to hear from u. thanks I dont rely on fancy names to gauge the price of any corals i just use my own eyes and taste. a coral that looks nice to you may not look nice to another person......just my view.....nice zoa by the way.
  18. I love my prizm...skims out a whole lot of shit, easy to clean, huge collection cup, slim...cheap if u buy second hand......
  19. yeah...thanks for the encouragement.....well my chopping skills really suck, some really small, some big enough for my wrasse to eat only.
  20. Here are some pics of my first attempt. I added three prawns, two mussels, 5ml of 5 in 1, 5 ml of coral accel, two cubes of hikari mysis shrimps. 20ml of water I didnt blend the blender cuz my mom locked it up somewhere far far away...so i chopped it up into small pieces, put the mixture into a ziploc bag and froze it into a slab The slab my shrimp caught a big piece of it...still eating
  21. Sigh...mid year exams comming liao...must mug...cant concentrate on reefing
