Huge Boo Boo Made. Help Much Appreciated.
JoeyBabooey replied to JoeyBabooey's topic in LPS Coral forum
Oooh cannot leh.. I dont have a separate tank.. I wish i have! Anyway since im here can update... Its completely healed! Opens full and eating. If this happens to anybody, dont have to panic. Just keep water constant and it will heal itself and ALWAYS keep your eyes on the suction pipe when you water change. -
I think they called it golden hammer now? Could that be? Not so vibrant yellow hammer = golden hammer. Still same price per head though..

Bring into Singapore no problem. Just need to make sure its not under the CITES list (just in case AVA investigates). And also total water volume has to be no more than 3L if i am not wrong. For export (marine fishes and corals), im not sure. I only had experience in freshwater shrimp.

Oh! Your tiny torch is too cute lah! Haha! I hope it wont pop out heads forever and stay this size! Haha!
-
Hahaha yea.. Just thought i'd share how the corals i bought from other reefers like you are doing. Trying to be as neat as i can la.. Even though this is a 'holding tank'.. Definitely not as neat as your tank lor! Yup! I also agree 6mm glass is too risky... Thats why order new tank mah.. Must quickly cycle that and transfer over.. Haha! Yeah!! More fun to go coral hunting with more kaki!

Hi everyone! it took a while for me to decide if I should even share photos of my current tank. This tank is freshwater converted for me to try out reefing. To make sure that saltwater aquarium keeping is for me. To learn everything that i can and make those mistakes and again valuable experience before i put down a big chunk of change and invest in a proper setup. Since the aim of this tank was just a try-out to see if I have the salty fingers to keep things alive, scaping and such was not important. Right now I am just stocking up on corals so that I can transfer them to my new tank It has been 6 months and I very happy to say that I'm managing to keep things alive! Not to say that I had not made any mistakes... Believe me.. I have made too many! Anyway! Here is a picture of my tank and if you are just starting out, i just want to share that it's a lot easier than you think so just get into it! Thats something I wished someone had told me earlier otherwise I would have started reefing 2 years ago.. but better late than never! I also want to take this opportunity to thank all the reefers here that has guided me along especially those reefers that I had met through buying corals from them. Definitely a friendly bunch and I hope to return that good attitude back to the community. Tank: 60cm x 30cm x 36cm (6mm) crystal glass. Skimmer: Reef Octopus BH1000 Hang On Skimmer Lighting: 4 Tube Aquazonic T5HO Additional Filtration: Eheim Classic 2215 canister filter and Fluval C2 HOB for Poly Filter + Algone + Carbon Please feel free to ask any questions and definitely your comments on what you would do differently. Thank you all! Cannot wait to start a tank setup journal after the new tank arrives!

Is poly filter good for nano tank without skimmer?
JoeyBabooey replied to jackiee's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I have tried putting cheap filter wool in front of the polyfilter and I must say it has helped to make the polyfilter last.. at least a week more! The flow will drop but that okay. means more absorption I guess? Thanks for the tip, DerrickLim! Hey Andrea, I have friends with nano IOS tanks and they can fit the Dymax airstone powered skimmer into the IOS compartment quite nicely. I think we still need to do those water changes whether we have a skimmer or not... Its always better. Whether you 'really' need a skimmer would depend on the size of your tank and your bioload of livestock. -
Newbie starting a reef tank
JoeyBabooey replied to macmania's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hey bro, You can look for SGBros/TankJunction and N30 on the net. I have made tanks with these guys before and I had good experiences. Pricing is also competitive. The 5 year warranty is also there for a piece of mind. http://www.tankjunction.sg/ and http://n30.com.sg/ I would also suggest Vincent of Aquarium Artist. One of the sponsors here. You can contact him at 9695 9086. He specializes in marine setups. -

Hey bro, i am by no means a very experienced reefer or a senior one at that. but i would like to offer you my 2 cents of what i have learnt and experienced. Would be great for more senior reefers here to give their input and provide more ideas for your new setup. I hope i have helped. -
from my experience with my 2 footer, we cannot only depend on livestock to take care of our algae problems for us. Because most of the time... they don't. We as hobbyist should get to the root of the cause of the algae. instead of thinking how to lessen the sight of algae, we should think about why the algae is there and what we can do to ever prevent it from appear again. otherwise it will keep coming back and worse case scenario tank crash. Read up on the causes like phosphate, nitrate and other factors. Just like our fellow senior reefers have mentioned above. good luck!

hi bro, like veliferium said, I had put my livestocks into a bucket with as much tank water as I can fill, quickly do the rescape without trying to disturb the sand too much, wait for the water to settle and look clean and then put the livestocks back. I also did a small water change after as well. Had not experience any issues. My advice is to have a game plan as to where you want what rocks to go where and stuff before starting so that you can do it quicker.

Protein Skimmer Selection Opinions & Advice.
JoeyBabooey replied to JoeyBabooey's topic in Product Reviews
thank you for your input so far, guys! So it does seem that overly powered skimmers are indeed an overkill... didn't take the water volume into consideration. and will try to stay away from full cone skimmers =) I guess the Deltec SC1455 will be my second option.. im sure nobody can go wrong there. Will re-write the plan again for a better suited skimmer from the brands earlier mentioned. Thanks again fellas! -

Yup! I just placed it in a lower flow area. At this time, SEEMS to be on the road to recovery. Oh wow... for that to happen to you anemone must be very heartpain.. Did not know the anemone's tentacles are that fragile.. Thank you for your tip bro! -
Hi reefers, So I have a new tank arriving next month and I'm now exploring options for equipment. In this case, protein skimmers. I know you guys had to deal with tons of such topics before but please bear with me. My range of options are a little unique. The tank volume including sump is max 280L. this is not taking into account the volume of rocks and such. The tank will be a mixed reef with an emphasis on fishes. I am aiming at collecting rarer species of fish and coral rather than jam packing vast collections. Therefore, stocking will be low and slow. If you have experience with any one of the options below, do offer your opinions and such or other alternatives. Your input will be much appreciated! Budget wise... not too cheap and not too expensive. You can tell from my options below. My initial first choice: Skimz Monzter E Series SM161. Rated for 500 to 1200L Air Intake 780L/Hr - I know these are relatively good skimmers. My initial first choice because of price. Reef Octopus Super Series RO-PS-2000INT or 3000INT (depending on stock availability.) Rated for up to 1200L or 1500L respectively. - I am currently using the Reef Octopus hang on skimmer for my 2 footer and very happy with it. Marine Sources Red Devil Cone RDC-1600. Rated for up to 1600L. Brought in by East Ocean Aquatic. - I am very interested in this skimmer. Not much reviews about this one here. Anybody has any inputs on this one? Looks great and solid build, price is good too. Just need some consumer confidence from your experiences. And Lastly, Deltec SC1455 Rated for 800L to 1000L Air Intake 600L/Hr. - I have a feeling everyone will go for this one. So, are my options of skimmers too overpowered? What are your opinions and if you had another option what would it be? Let's not let this become a "Mac user vs Windows User" battle.. Final reveal of choice will be shown when I start the tank setup journal. Thank you all in advance.

A 3ft tiny piece of ocean in my living room

oh wow!!! the Hydra 52 looks amazing! Definitely dream lights! How is the light spread? -
nice bro! I like how your sandbed is full of goodies! I would never dare to have such a big reef tank! but it's awesome to see how much space your fishes have to swim!
-
Yup! I second that. Have the same water volume with the same chiller and it's been working well for the past year. One thing I learnt was to give enough space at the back for the exhaust. Some reason it will not chill properly if not given enough 'venting' space.

Wow bro! EMS livestock must have been very stressful! Evermore being held by AVA...

I'm not sure about rental service... and i know that buying an Apogee is way too expensive. I was thinking about the Seneye sensor. They detect PAR values and spectrum and LUX levels too. At almost half the price of an Apogee AND you can monitor other parameters too. Saw this at Madpetz. Any thoughts if you would use such a device? Im thinking of using such a meter as i will be venturing into LEDs first time for the new tank and would be great to know if the light fixture i would like to use will actually work well. If i need supplementary lighting or not.

Hi senior reefers, I made a huge mistake while water changing. as i was siphoning out water, the tubing into my pail fell out and was spilling water all over the floor. Im my panic, i put back the tubing into the pail but... at the same time, the rigid siphon tube in the tank managed to suck onto one of my hammer coral's head. Quite a few 'hammers' got sucked out. The head is not entirely 'hiding' but its like the hammers are just missing. Will the hammer eventually heal from such an injury? Or is it done for? Thanks in advance!

from experience, 3ft should go for 10mm with bracing or 12mm without bracing at least. the cost should not be too much of a difference. anyway in the beginning I too wanted to get a thinner glass because i thought it would be cheaper but the tank maker would not entertain that suggestion. Especially after I said it was for marine. Better to be safe than sorry later on.
