what is e easiest SPS to keep
Reefaholic replied to ambystoma82's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Hmm... Try this 'Coral Search' http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/coralsearch.php The closest i can find in the net. But if you really want to see and learn more. Try to buy this book. 'Coral of the World' by Veron. There are 3 volumes. But quite expensive. -
kH =9 is fine. BTW, what test kits you are using? What water you are using? Tap water or RO/DI or Distill water? How long is your tank?

Recommend where to buy DAEIL chillers?
Reefaholic replied to Earthborne's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
I think there is no one carrying Daeil chiller anymore. Artica is the closest you can compare with. You can get them from JBJ / Aqua-Nautic Specialist Pte Ltd at 6481 3366 -
Get a phosphate remover like rowaphos to remove your PO4. Actually I consider elegance coral as one of the hardest LPS. Is your sandbed brown?

Hmm.... This very much depends on your water volume and the probe you use. Well, i cant justified that but with my experience on my tank. When i 1st place my probe in, it is 300+ and easily reached 450 within 1 week. That is the level i stop dosing my ozoniser through my skimmer. And i have to dip my probe with vinegar every week for 5-10mins to keep it at optimal level. I am comfortable with 450 and found that some of my friend who has lower setting level of 300 - 350mV. So depends on the 1st time you place your probe and without ozone, see your initial setting. I maybe wrong too. But setting too high can have adverse effect. So be careful with it. You also need to calibrate your probe too. During water change will also affect a drop in your ORP level so dont be surprise on it. Always connect your ozoniser to your air intake of your skimmer. Actually with a T-off is a better option. Other option is through an ozone reactor, which you cannot get it locally.

what is e easiest SPS to keep
Reefaholic replied to ambystoma82's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Montipora is quite difficult in my view. Certainly there is 1 or 2 species that are easy which you can commonly find them in LFS like those reddish brown type or greenish plates. You can find them even in Singapore water. Tonga and fiji are best to avoid and need good water parameters, strong lighting and dependable flow. However, millipora, pocci and digitata are easier IMO. At least they would not easily RTN but sometimes they lost thier colours too. -
Well done damienkee, it is true. Whether it is SPS or LPS. You need stable correct parameters. And SPS are particularly very sensitive to such. Especially kH, Ca, and Mg. Needless to say, NO3 and PO4 must be undetectable. The key point is get a good salt to can produce stable parameters batch after batch so that all you have to do is adjust it with some buffer. Some salts are high in Ca, Mg and low in kH or give different reading in kH when you bought your nect batch. In the market, you will never get salt to suit to your liking, of course that is just my opinion.

With phosphate reactor would be good, but not necessary. You can also run a phosphate remover/media with mesh bag in your sump. There are a few phosphate remover/media in the market you can get. I would suggest Rowaphos which is quite good IMO.

To be frank, this pc also doesnt look healthy to me. I do not know the ID, but i have experience with it before and like what madmac said, it is not an easy specie. What is your kH level? And btw the MH photo period may be too short in my opinion.

Wow. Its great to see someone sharing the same enthusiasm as me. So its only control 1 MH? and you may need additional unit for more MH? Well cost will be a problem. Hope you can invite me once you have got hold of it. I love dimming effect just like what IKS can do to T5. And i noticed on particular occassion, especially during full moon. When dusk breaks in, my anthias got very excited and i once look at them very carefully and found out they went on feeding fenzy as there are some sort of eggs or frys being released into the water column. I suspect it may be spawning of my dottyback or my acro crabs. Its amazing to see stuff like that.
-
Thanks bro, I have actually heard that before but i dont think they are using dimmable eballast? But i doubt anyone will get it.
-
So far as what i know, there is no dimmable eballast for MH, only for T5 or fluroscent tubes. For IKS, it needs a dimmable eballast from Philips, cannot remember the model off hand. But find it very useful for simulation of sunset/sunrise. If you have lots of small fishes, it is even more interesting to see them slowly faded away knowing that sun is on the horizon.

What recommendations do you want? Add in calcium reactor, rowaphos, carbon, auto top-up, chiller and thermostate shut down system?
