  2. Mine used to swim all night long also. Now it will make a hole in the sand bed and sleeps in it.
  3. Twice a day. Flakes in the afternoon. Chopped mysis, brine and dried seaweed at night.
  4. 1. Search for "tank makers". 2. Don't think so. 3. Small tank harder to maintain. Cos parameters can fluctuate more.
  5. Can cycle with your present LS. Though not advisable. Or you can dose bacteria to your filter. Think "lastmanstanding" had a thread on Seachem Stability.
  6. Think not a good idea to do a complete water change. May stress your LS too much. And you may not have cultivated sufficient bacteria colony to take care your of LS's waste since you did not go through the proper process of cycling your tank. Anyway, see if anything died in there. I once had a star polyp - looks to be alright, still opening. But for a couple of days, I had two small flies flying around my cubicle. And water getting a bit stinky. Mushrooms closed tight-tight for the first time. Buttons half open. Decided to take out my corals and have a look. Man ... when I took out the star polyp, it STINKS LIKE HE**!!! Some part of the rock its resting on had turned soft and soggy. Threw it away and did a complete water change. Then everything back to normal again. Think you may need to take a sniff on your LRs and corals also. Haha... Well, let your tank run for another week and then do another test. And maybe you can start another thread, think this is getting a bit
  7. Read somewhere in this forum that the resin in chemipure is good for fresh water only. Personally, I use "Matrix Carbon" from Seachem. When my mushroom closed up last time, it was b'cos one of the corals died and started to rot. What corals you bought? Sponge not easy to keep, cos cannot expose to air. Trapped air in the sponge can cause it to die.
  8. Salifert - separate kits. Check these out: http://saltaquarium.about.com/gi/dynamic/o...egin-tests.html http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/aqsetupte...tkitchartfo.htm http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/waterqual...itchartreef.htm
  9. For corals, I add: Strontium Calcium Iodine Trace elements Liquid coral food At least test water for: Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate pH Not good idea to mess up the sand too much. Better get a cleaning crew to help. Like cleaner shrimp, snails, sea cucumber.
  10. Think it's when the bubbles reach the surface, it does the fizzling thing - like when you open a can of soft drink - and the saltwater gets "spray" around the top. When the water dries up, you get salt on whatever that kanna sprayed.
  11. Can try this one ... Gold Head Goby
  12. Both requires medium to high lighting cos the zooxanthellae in them provide nutirents to the corals via photosynthesis. Supplements are added to replace those lost through filtering, skimming and coral absorption.
  13. Got mine from Reborn. Brand is Hydor. Don't think they have stock for the small one currently. But can get "Ah Boy" or the auntie to order one for you. Can check it out in this webpage also: www.hydor.com Look for "External filter - Prime 10/20/30" No sound during operation. Very silent. Only a bit noisy first time I on it. Think it's b'cos got air trapped in the cannister. But once the air is forced out, no more sound.
  14. Where you bought it? Think common clowns are $1 a piece.
  15. The cannister I bought is the smallest in its range. Supposedly good enough for 2~3ft tanks. Cost me about $70 after discount. Changed to cannister in hope of getting better water parameters. And indeed water parameters much better than when I was using the hang-on type. Yap, cycled my tank for 6~7 weeks with a market prawn.
  16. Ooh ... didn't know fish poo can be toxic. What caused it?
  17. I dose calcium, strontium and iodine as well. Think better check your water parameters.
  18. Is it the fish "po-po" you pointing to? Don't see what's wrong with it.
  19. What lighting you use? Dosed supplements?
  20. I use Red Sea Salt. Salt do turn hard after some time. But the mixed salt water is clear.
  21. I used to use the hang-on type when the tank's in the office. But found the water parameters not good. Thus when I brought it home, I decided to have a cannister instead. My filter media is as follows (from bottom to top): Coarse fiber Carbon Rowaphos Denitrate Polyfilter Biohomme Fine fiber Cos a lot of these helps in removing toxin, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PO4... which you won't be able to fit in those hang-on tye. If you're using the hang-on kind, think you'll have to monitor your water parameters more closely and then decide on a water change. Do a water change if ammonia, nitrite and nitrate gets too high. At least a weekly change, for small tanks like ours. Cos water parameters for small tanks fluctuate more drastically. Can check out this webpage, mostly nano tank reefers. www.nano-reef.com And yes, crab molt. If I'm not wrong, all crustaceans need to molt to get bigger.
  22. Oh yes ... and don't on your lights for too long. 8hrs more than sufficient.
  23. Think Reborn got. Anyway, don't think Rowaphos can bring down PO4 to a level where no algae can be detected. Cos bound to have some traces of PO4 that the diatom (brown algae) can trive on. Rowaphos is used more as a means of control to keep the PO4 low. Try changing water weekly, 10~20%. Avoid over-feeding. And if you experience another round of diatom bloom, replace the Rowaphos in your filter - cos this batch may have been exhausted.
