Thanks...the only issue placing them on the rocks in a captive tank is that they may fall off when the turbo snails move near or over them. I also want to refrain from using epoxy to stick them on the rocks.

Hilo Can anyone kindly advise where is the best place in the tank for clams? Top, MIddle or on Sand bed? They don't seem to be happy when I place them somewhere in the middle sitting on life rocks. They used to be bright but now the blue isn't so vibrant as the first day I brought them home. What do they actually eat? Thanks Thanks : )

Wilsontantw@ Thanks. 1) I used filter water from my filter for human consumption which filters out impurities, chlorine etc. I know I shd purchase a DI set but I was told that I could use those filters that we used for human consumption, it shd also work for fishes. 2) The salt I used is Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt 3) My skimmer is doing fine and I make a point to wash when dirt accumulates Hotsoup@ I cycled mine for about 3 weeks with treated sea water, life rocks and a refugium filled with macro algae. I started with corals and a few hardy fishes like clowns. dnsfpl@ I tested it twice and it gave the same results jetski250@ yes my yellow wrasse disappeared without a trace. Perhaps you are right. I heard that you could give it a daily freshwater bath, each not more than 5mins. Perhaps some bros can verify and advise on this.

Hello Reef Friends I have been religiously doing a 10% WC weekly but some of my water parameters are still not quite there: - Calcium : 385ppm Alkalinity : 9dKH Magnesium : 1200ppm Ammonia : undetectable Nitrate : 1.0ppm My Nitrate is like hitting the roof! what can I do to bring it down? Do another WC? I have not really overfeed my fishes and i have a refugium filled with macro algae. Any kind advice to the above and how can I improve some of the parameters above. Hi Morning to All Any recommendation for a good and reliable dosing pump for SPS. My tank is 4ft x 2ft x 2.5ft, am thinking of a dosing pump instead of doing it manually. Many thanks : )

I had the same problem too recently. I was told that the purplish red sand was due probably to low PO4 which caused the diatom to die off, thus exposing the coralline covered sand. What is your PO4 level? I have confirmed this by taking the top layer of purplish red sand and swished it in a container filled with a little tank water. And the purplish layer came off as loose matters, confirming that it's cynobacteria. To get rid of the purplish slime : Improve the internal flow and aeration in your tank and hopefully it will help in getting rid of the redslime cyno. If it did not go away and continue to grow, you will need to apply the red\slime remover to eradicate them. Hope the above is useful.

Looks like a Convict Tang except that the dorsal isn't yellowish.

The problem is if i put the rocks in the refugium, the water level will not be high enough to cover the LR unless I get real small pieces of LR, made difficult by 6 inches sand bed in the refugium. Hihi Is it necessary and beneficial to place some life rocks in the sump? If it is, which compartments in the sump should those rocks be placed: at the compartment where the skimmer is or at the compartment where the return pump that pumps the water back to the tank is (i.e. outlet)? Trevally@ my current Ecotech does that and it creates visually strong ripples at the surface of the water. Hi Ketchup@ Thanks for your advice. Ya my yellow wrasse comes out once in a while. Re your advice to put one on the opposite end, will the wave cause a major swirl when the opposing current meets somewhere in between? I am thinking of putting one on the same side but aiming at an angle targeting the lower part of the tank. What do you think. Hi BFG@ Thanks...I will only keep one wrasse and hopefully the 4 ft tank is big enough to provide some hiding spaces shd the yellow wrasse becomes a bully. I am mindful too that yellow wrasse can grow to quite a substantial size. : )

Thanks Mengyang...I hv been doing that and the nudis situation has improved althou I still find one or two. My yellow wrasses into hiding. Haha. Somehow not all my corals are opening up fully. The parameters seem to be within range and satisfactory. Still trouble-shooting and I just admire with awe when I see fellow reefers here posting nice and colourful and fully opened corals on this forum Cheers Mark

Thanks Guys for all your advice. Yes, I played around with the wave maker and adjusted it to the max. The dead spots are around the back of the tank and like most of you say, areas in between the rocks. I will prolly get a small wave maker and direct it towards those dead spots and looking at my tank, it is still quite barren and I intend to add more corals, only after I have gotten rid completely the nudis (if there is such a thing as completely!)...arghhhhhhhhhh. Still find one or two in some of my corals. Many thanks once again : )

Corals that I am keeping include: -LPS Hard Corals : Elegance Coral x1; Brain Coral x2 - Red Mushroom, pretty small ones - Sea Fans x1 - Anemones x 2 - Polyps : Button Polyps x 2; waving hands x1; Colony Polyps x1; Starburst Polyps x 1 ...and two clams Hope the above helps and looking forward to your kind advice/comments. : ) Mark

Hihi My tank is 4ft x 2ft x 2.5ft and I am currently using Ecotech Marine MP40W as wave maker for the tank. I wonder if it is sufficient for my tank? am considering another gadget to increase water flow to better control algae and to wash off teh detritus from the corals. But I am also mindful if I stir the water too drastically, my poor fishes will all hide and seek shelter in the rocks. Any comments please. Cheerio Mark
