  1. Its a mixed reef with some acros and LPS .. so what if I use a micron sack to catch the precipitate and wash it out.. Will use it just befire the skimmer in my sump...
  2. Hi, Just wanna know how good is the Goodbye PO4.. I am looking to import some from Freshnmarine but wanna get a review before that.. My phosphates are quite high about 0.1 ppm and wanna lower it for my sps..
  3. Oh ok... I thought all Montis are easy to maintain.. Then what sot of sps should I start with... Also I was planning to have 2 Hydor Koralia Nanos along with my 2000ltr/hr return pump.. Or should I get 1 Hydor koralia 1? Sorry too many questions...
  4. Hi Straydum, Thanks for all ur support bro. Well ultimately I have got the T5 fixture made with individual reflectors and osram ballast. Couldn't find vossoloh in India The fixture also has 4 CPU fans for coolong the bulbs. So I guess that would lengthen the lifespan of the T5s. The problem is that I have ordered ATI Blueplus from aquamarin.com.sg as we donot get ATI here in India. However, I just thought 2 6500 K and 2 ATI Blueplus will put out a great par as I am not a big blue tank fan!!! Moreover I have a sea blue oyama background which does make my tank look blue... So is it fine to move on with the Option 1 combo as then again I shall have to order for Aquablue special... Also planning to get Montipora sp.(Its a purplr encrusted form) frag from my friend... Is it one of the easies...
  5. Hi Friends, I am having a nano tank mainly with few softies and lps and looking forward to move to sps.Tank is 2ft x 15 in(W) x 12 in (H). The details can be found in this thread :- I have made a 4x24 W T5 HO fixture with individual reflectors and osram ballast. However, confused with the bulb combo . The bulbs I have at hand are :- Option 1 :- ATI Blueplus. Osram/Philips/GE 6500 K. ATI Blueplus. Osram/Philips/GE 6500 K. Option 2 :- ATI Blueplus. Osram/Philips/GE 6500 K. True Actinic ATI Blueplus. Let me know which will be better for my sps....
  6. Thanks Harlequin..Its great to be encouraged by experienced reefers like you .. Well have decided to get rid off the 70 W crappy mh running over my 24 inch x 15 in (Width) x 12 in (Height) tank . Have ordered two ATI Blueplus 24 w tubes which will be connected on either side of the hood from Aquamarin.. Had a discussion with Mike from Rapidled and he has said that they can ship LEDs to India.. So have decided to go for 12 Cree LED premium pack from Rapidled with 80 degree lens .. Questions are :- 1. Are 2 24 W T5 HO + 12 leds enogh to keep sps in my tank or do I need more leds... 2. The gap between the two T5s where the led heatsink will go is 5 inch.. Have decided to go for 9 * 4.5 inch heatsink... Is it enough or I should go for a 16 inch x 4.5 inch heatsink.. 3. The leds and the T5s will be 5 inch from the water surface ... Do I need to raise them or it looks fine... Help will be appreciated
  7. Hi friends, Was looking towards getting a BOYU HQI - 24 for my tank (2 ft x 15 in x 12 in(H)) as I am plnning for sps.. Anyone using it can help me with a review on the same...
  8. Yeah...the current is too strong.Thinking of getting two smaller ones on either ends for better random circulation..
  9. Well I don't have bubble coral in my tank..However thanks for the info. As for the cyphastrea and GSP , both of them are behaving properly as of now...
  10. Hi friends, With all your help and a few friends here in my country , I have been able to establish a stable system (atleast for the time being) in my first attemt at saltwater tanks.. Here goes the specs :- Tank :- 24 in x 15 inch(W) x 12 inch (H) Sump :- 24 in x 12 inch(W) x 12 inch (H) Lights :- 70 W BLV Ushio 10000K and 36 W actinic pll (DIY fixture) Circulation :- Sicce Syncra 2000 ltrs/hr return pump and Sunsun 3000 ltr per hour powerhead (Its a chinese but doing its job) 3000 ltrs per hour Filteration :- Reef Octopus NW-110 and refugium with cheato and ofcourse vodka Liverocks came free from an experienced reefer .. Can't thank him much for cured free live rocks of 15 kg Chiller :- Hailea 300 A Coral :- 1 Tubastrea. 1 brown zoanthid 1 Discosoma sp. 1 Tubanaria Paltata 1 Cyphastrea 1 GSP 1 green mushroom Fish :- 1 clown and 1 yellow watchman goby... Pics to follow :- The tank Tubastrea Local brown zoanthid Cyphastrea ( I don't know if its true id or not) and GSP Discosoma 10 % water change done every week .... Future plans :- Want to go into sps as everyone does.. But cant decide whether to go for 4x24 W T5 HO DIY fixture or 150 W metal halide... Plaese do criticise so that I can improve for 1 day I also wanna see the tank atleast half good looking like all other tanks here...
  11. Hi friends, Was thinking how about Maxspect G1-601 W light fixture supplemented with 2 actinics..Will it be good enough for sps? Ofcourse have to source it from Singapore only ...So if possible please help me..
  12. Thanks for all your support..well I am not local..I am from India. My friend will betravelling to Singapore .So planning to get the ATI tubes though him. Will have provision for 6 tubes and use all 6 as midday burst.Rest of the time will use 4 of them.It will be great if you can show me some pics of the light fixture if anyone has DIYed the same.
  13. Thanks Straydum.Well if I do plan to go for T5 HO, will be making my own canopy with individual reflectors and osram ballast and ATI bulbs. So then do you think it would be more powerful than a 150 W jbj viper?
  14. Thanks so much for the inputs.. Well Led is out of question as I donot have money for the same. Between 6xT5HO and 150 W metal halide , I am torn in between the two. Which would be better as heat is an issue but I do run hailea chiller. However, the shimmering effect of the metal halide will be lost without MH. So wanted a combo of T5 HO and mh . Please advice which would give more PAR ratings -- a 150 W mh or 6 x24 W T5 HO.
  15. Hi friends, Have set up a small nano reef tank for the past 10 months.Recently slowly moving to natural sea water and have got parameters quite stabilized .So looking forward to move to sps. Here's my tank specs :- Tank - 2 ft x 15 inch(W) x 12 inch(H). Sump - 2 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft. Skimmer - Reef Octopus 110. Light - 70 W BLV Ushio 10000K. As of now having LPS and zoanthids and they are doing well. But like all of you , after a long battle with nitrates and having stabilized parameters want to slowly move to sps. So, I plan to use 70 W mh along with 2 ATI Blueplus (2x24 W) as the lighting. Need your views as to whether I can grow sps from top to bottom or change the mh to 2x24 W ATI Aquablue plus. The mh is placed at 5 inches from the water surface.
  16. Hi friends, I am looking forward to convert my 2 ft x 15 inch (W) x 12 inch (H) softies tank into an all sps tank. Will Lumenaqua 300 be enough for this?Request your co-operaton in this regard..
  17. Thanks a lot..Actually I am looking for Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 model..
  18. Hi friends, I am from India and my friend will be travelling to Singapore in a few weeks. So wanted him to carry back SRO XP-2000 for my 4 feet 120 gal tank. Can you help me to source it in Singapore and also please do let me know the price of it.. Aprreciate all helps that can be provided..
  19. Thanks for the detailed reply.Well I am using a Reef Octopus NW-110 (not the cone model) skimmer for my 28 gal system. As for the vodka dosing, well it was below 5 in the first month itself with 1.8 ml of vodka. So I was continueing to use the same dosage unil I started feeding heavily to revive two sun corals rescued from my friend's tank. So now the nitrates are increasing as well the bacterial bloom.I had bacterial bloom previously also but it was not as much as it is now. Also, I do 20% water change with siphoning but again it grows in a week. Can you help me to point out where did I go wrong with my dosing? Do I need to increase my vodka dosing ? Will supplementing it with MB-7 help in increasing the bacterial count? I am planning to run Seachem Matrix Carbon in my sump as I donot run it.Do I need to use a reactor or just throw it in the sump. Do you think that cabn contribute in reducing nitrates and phisphates? Please help...........
  20. Hi friends, Am having a 18 gal tank with 10 gal sump.Filteration is provided through Octopus NW-110 and cheato .Mainly having sun corals along with LPS and other zoanthids. Some 4 months back I have started with vodka dosing.Went really slow with 0.1 ml to 25 gal system .Now it has increased all the way to 2 ml .But the nitrates are still at 10-20. Also I am getting lots of detritus accumulating in the sump. Its like brown dust algae all over in my sump.It can be excess of bacteria also. Can anyone let me know what is happening with my vodka dosing such that these detritus are building up in my sump...
  21. Thanks so much for all the replies.. Well I would go with 2 and as divinesloth mentioned, place my sun corals on the 2 sides..Well that has been an inital plan ..lets see.. Now the problem lies in getting two of them shipped to India as I am from India Let me search over the net if there's any seller in Malaysia as my friend will be travelling there in a month..
  22. 6 units!!! Oh my God...that's too much for my poor pocket. I was thinking of 2 over 2 islands I have .And have sps on the top of the 2 islands.. Please advice..
  23. Hi friends, Didn't pick up the 70 W mh I was planning for in fear of intense heat...wanna go the LED way. Have decided to go for PAR 38 leds . My main concern are my LPS .So please help me ...
