Live sand VS Dry aragonite.
Slimymadness replied to Evolutionz's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
you can try ah beng. those carib sea "live sand" are just marketing gimmicks. i also using dry sand, you need to wash first before using or else water very cloudy. it works great for me. -

Finally caught this bugger that has been harassing my smaller fishes. He is around 2" and despite his size, he can be quite the bully. Thus he is only suitable if you have a tankload of bigger dominant fishes. He does not bother corals at all though and I always see him trying to catch bristleworms out of the rocks. He is fearless and always venture out whenever i go near the tank. I would really want to see him go to a good home. i hope to trade him for any coral frag or any peaceful nano fishes. Otherwise i am looking to sell him at $5. Self collect at Pasir ris dr 6. Bag is provided. thanks all!

bro, for me i tried feeding regularly (2 weeks plus) inside a container. so the fishes got used to it. and then i swap the container for a trap and the bugger swam in as usual. i also have successes with the lights out method like what vtec said, but since urs sleeps at the back, it's gonna be a challenge. i also have tried using a barb-less fish hook and it works... hope you get your fish soon, i can feel your frustration...

check PO4 level bro. be careful as even if the po4 level reads 0, it could be due to that the algae are consuming it. step up with the water changes, 10-15% per week if possible and change GFO regularly. Skim wet, add carbon too as cautionary measure. Off lightings if possible or reduce photoperiod drastically. some RC reefers recommend increasing Mg levels to 1600 for a few weeks but if you are not 100% sure, do not try as it might not be safe for tank inhabitants. Turbo snails are great in controlling hair algae, $1 each from the farms. good luck and keep us posted!

PLANNING TO RESTART MT TANK
Slimymadness replied to staromsa's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
agree with what jxlex says. Patience is the key to success. SPS = Stability Promotes Success ( learn that through RC) there is no short cut in reefing. if your nutrient is high due to improper tank management, no number of times of resetting will help. you can start again when you have acquired enough knowledge and is willing to invest time to read up, invest money on good equipment and most importantly be willing to learn; starting from the basic. As i have mentioned earlier, start slow, with soft corals first as they are more forgiving. no point wasting money. with a "i want to get started as quickly as possible" mentality, one is doomed to fail even before starting. hope you heed the advise of other seniors here. -
i disagree bro. i have done research on lightings and i can tell you, LED technology is more than ready. In case you do not know, usable photosynthetic radiation for corals at its highest occurs in the 420nm to 470nm range. this range can be easily achieved using a mix of royal blues, blues and UV led. Additionally, cool white or warm white spectrum can be used to spur coral growths further. with the led technology, one can custom lighting to one's exact needs. Full spectrum leds can certainly rival MH now, and not to mention the ability to "pop" the colors of your corals. take a look at the links below, i hope they will help to change your mind about LEDs. http://www.reeftank123.com/lighting/lighting.html http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2003/8/aafeature http://www.3reef.com/forums/led-aquarium-lighting/small-polyp-stony-corals-how-they-affected-light-wavlegnths-105878.html
