  1. It will not. Because of your already existing IOS overflow. You wont be able to control the flow going into your additional overflow box, hence resulting in the scenarios mentioned. The return from sump has to be constant with the overflow to prevent any potential flooding from happening. I'm also thinking of a way to make it viable without a potential flood happening overnight. Can be done, but both tanks need to be able to compensate for effect over time failure. The only way i see this to be possible is if you able to match up your return pump rate with your overflow rate, which is the case of a normal sump system or ios system. i.e In your IOS there is already a return pump, say 2000l/hr. You external sump has another return, say another 2000/hr. There will be 4000l pump into your system. The overflow box u add has to be able to accurately collect 2000l/hr in order not for the sump to dry out (resulting in your display overflowing due to excess water vol from sump) or for ur sump to overflow. On a side note, if your sump is place higher than your tank. You can utilize the concept other way which works definately. Same concept as a hang on filter system.
  2. Ok, i just sat and thought about it! Adding a float switch to a secondary return pump in sump might do the trick. But this float switch has to work on the opposite concept. (is there even such a thing?) When water level reaches the float switch, it switches on a secondary return pump in the sump to pump the excess water back.
  3. Tagging along for this one. I thought about it before. Problem i found is that u cant get a constant flow and return rate on the sump, Since there is an IOS. I.e A) Too little return, too much overflowing down to sump = Flood B )Too strong return, too little overflowing down to sump = Sump empty + Vol of water in sump will be in main display = Flood Need to figure a way to get both constant to work. Unless able to monitor it strictly everyday. And top up water/ remove water from display to sump or vise versa Anyone done this before?
  4. Calibrated it in my air con room, think of it, i'm not sure what temp it was than. Will it make a large difference?
  5. Thanks alot tian! Its a qt tank i have set up, the previous qt was too big, i sold it off to a nice bro. Had a spare tank, so decided to make it into the new qt.
  6. By the way guys, a good tip for all. If you are using a refractometer, don't forget to calibrate it now and than. I only recently calibrated mine after 3 yrs of usage. It was reading 0.002 lower than the corrected amount.
  7. Quick update of my tanks with pictures to share! Lost a few corals + sold a couple corals during the nitrate spike period, remaining corals recovering well from all the drama the past month. Colours are returning nicely, STN corals slowly recovering as well. New rockscape with the Barebottom. Nitrate now 0.5 My clownfish now hosting on to the hammer corals after selling my GBTA. Some Frags i got recently from a kind reefer! Update with the reef resh by polyplab. Honestly, i feel it works well. I dont dose anything else at the moment. Colours returning on coral looks very good. Nitrates have gone down by insane amounts, but there are other attributing factors. Overall please with this product, will continue dosing and monitor the overall health n colour. Thanks for viewing.
  8. Hi bro, im sure you will be able to pull through whatever failure u are experiencing . I read your thread regularly and understand you have high amount of bioload. I am actually curious about how bad we talking about, say u miss a day of carbon dosing. Whats the nitrate spike we talking about here? Hopefully u find a substitute pump real soon.
  9. As always slayer, thanks for the update. I wonder if u have a home at both pasir ris n LCK.
  10. Ouch superglue im guessing?? I had it on both hands n feet the other day =/
  11. Very nice yumas! Possible to take a pic of the full tank with filtration, kinda interested to see the whole set up.
  12. Yup i reckoned it was meant to be a mini refugium, just u can double it up as a ats by placing a mesh there. Just an idea
  13. Good choice of corals. Good luck! Keep the photos coming!
  14. Hmm, Your Hob is gonna cause micro bubbles if the water drops back down from that height, defeating the purpose of the buffle u have from 2nd to return chamber. Can Consider attaching a mesh to it, so water trickles down instead and use it as an algae scrubber. brilliant! Anyway i see u have your lamp already set facing it.
  15. Hey bro, nice set up. Simple and neat nano. What u planning to keep? And whats your water change regime like?
  16. No issue with putting live rocks n cheato in drain compartment, u can put it anywhere u wan actually. Yes, lots of debate on timing, mine is on 24/7 but i just use 3w leds, my cheato grows like crazy.
  17. Awesome FTS. Definately room for a lot more fragssssss. Well done
  18. +1, i had a 3ft marine tank to sell quite urgently previously, didn't realise had a 100post min requirement, and had only 50 odd meaningful post than (not a big fan of bumping threads, but had no choice). Delayed the sales till close to almost CNY, where people didn't really want to purchase new tanks during that period. Sold it for cheaper than a bargain if u ask me.
  19. WOW those pictures just blew me away!!! Superb photography skills bro. Wonderful coral choices. Amazing man
  20. The smallest Nano skimmer that I've seen will not fit in the back of that tank. I would recommend looking at getting a cheap 2nd hand Nano tank. I personally feel if gonna keep any livestock, make sure your filtration or water change regime is sufficient enough to keep them healthy.
