  1. Thanks bro. Anyone else been there recently? Wanna know if they do sell equipments in case i need something urgently. Seems the closest LFS from katong is pasir ris or Fish channel. Unless theres more hidden marine shops.
  2. Oh ok thanks, i know where it is now. Any idea what equipment or stuff he carries?
  3. . Hey guys, came across this video if u are currently having trouble with bryopsis aka hair algae. Worked well for me. I use it directly on the affected areas. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tDG-qlFOGU
  4. Anyone has the address to this katong LFS? As i stay near katong. Only fish shop i can recall is one at old roxy square, facing katong laksa, have to walk down the stairs to B1. But only recall seeing freshwater livestock. Or is Katong marine another shop ?
  5. Hi, it seems that is an OEM of the jebao twin linkage? But the one u mentioned seems more tunable with the use of computer programming. https://www.fish-street.com/jebao_twins_linkage_controller?category_id=35 Have asked a couple of LFS about the jebao twin linkage, no answer if they going to bring in. As for the JBwave, even lower chance of seeing that in our LFS since its an oem product.
  6. Just curious to know since we're on the topic. Is it safe to pull a clam off its position once it is attached to the rock? I mean really well attached, in the event i need to rescape or something.
  7. +1 , haven't seen bubbleking in a while at any LFS. As Harlequin mentioned, the vertex skimmers i.e the omega 150 is a beast. I dont use it personally as my tank is undersized for it. But i've read alot of reviews and watched many videos. All very good positive feedback with crazy good skimate right of the start. Will definitely be my choice of skimmer if i plan on an upgrade. Worth considering. Cheers.
  8. Hi bro, any idea why your nitrates are undownable? I used to have this same problem. I changed out almost full tank of water weekly previously to try to get my nitrates back down, didn't help abit, so i understand what u mean by undownable. Problem is you need to try to find the cause of the nitrates. Could be high bioload, overfeeding, old rocks n sand, plenty of dead zone in your tank, insufficient skimming etc. What i did was to counter every single problem mentioned, and on top of that started bacteria dosing and introduced algone patches. Now my nitrates sit at 0.5.
  9. Depends also on your maxspect height and kelvin. For mine its 10k, so i have to use alot of blue. Its currently set at peak 60%w, 80%b. I am considering increasing the blue to 90%.
  10. Thanks for sharing! Seems i have been playing on the safe side. I usually minus 0.1 after the last drops that turns the test pink just to be sure.
  11. Bringing up an old topic. I was wondering when i should change my DI resins. Considering i am only keeping SPS at the moment. Currently using the crystal pro DI 3 stage, with madpetz resin. Reading is now 3 up from 0 after 2 mths. Is it still considered ok to use for sps dominated tank? Or am i always looking for 0ppm. Changing the resins isn't the issue, but i would like to know what is the limit? Change at 5?
  12. Pictures of the ultimate Shifu tank. absolutely stunning man. I cant wait to see what u have installed for the new project!
  13. Lol, u need to rotate the pictures before posting bro, getting a neck ache
  14. My whole tank was crawling with these guys before, they are beneficial, but can multiply and start to get out of hand. They will stick out their tenticles and collect food from the water column. I removed most of them as I didn't want my corals to starve. In terms of scavenging, i rather have a hermit crab do a better job. These guys are slow.
  15. Is that the rowaphos? If it is, it is really alot!
  16. marine life at clementi always seem to have plenty of nice rose anemone
  17. Thats the best part of reefing in my opinion
  18. Hi dragoncube, welcome back to reefing! I guess ultimately it also depends on what u plan on keeping. If soft corals/ zoas, u can use basic filtration with hang on skimmer if required. If you looking to keep sps, LPS, anemones etc, a sump will be really be nice to incorporate all the extra gear u will require as well as increase the total volume of your nano to get more stable parameters. Plenty of nano equipment are available now, look at 2 part dosing for nano instead of calcium reactor, its a good alternative for a nano as ca/alk may not be as demanding. Couple of nice nano skimmers, espically those hang on board ones like BM qq, bm Nac 3.5 (in sump), reef octopus BH1000/2000, Redsea prizm, Deltec mce300 etc etc. Jebao has the wp10 which is a great wavemaker and highly affordable. Plenty of nice options of lightset now on the market as well. Couple of nice mini reactors for biopellets / carbon / phosphate remover availble too, like the reeftech minireactors.
  19. Hey BC82, spoke to James about the system. Maybe i can try explaining to you. The concept of this system is basically like an DIY overflow system, just that in this case, the overflow pipe is in the IOS, and the overflow height is higher than your normal water level in the IOS. Imagine an overflow system, within an existing overflow system. So basically, if you can't drill a hole in the bottom side panel of your IOS, u can DIY one. This video is a good guide. Place this overflow pipe in your IOS. So only problem I see to this is if your siphon breaks. well, theres a solution: A) Get a low level cut off switch, so if water drops below a certain level in your sump, the return pump cuts off. B ) Place ur return pump on a diy eggcrate to increase the height of the pump, such that if the siphon breaks, the return will only run for a while before the water level drops under the height of the pump, essentially running the pump dry. C ) Use a small sump in a sense if the siphon breaks, your main tank can handle the volume of the sump water without overflowing. Now as long as ur return pump rate is lower than your overflow rate, you wont have any problems =D
  20. Lol dont think it can get any lower than wp10 bro. It does have the s3 mode right? which is 50%? So about 2000L per/hr flow. If any smaller, should just use a return pump rated under 2000L. Just no nice wave effect i guess. Whats ur tank size? Seems really small.
  21. Welcome back to reefing! Impressed you even managed to stay away for almost 10yrs! Well, for one, technology has certainly improved, with introduction of LED lights, biopellet reactors etc etc. Look through couple of tank threads and u will get a good idea. More coral options now too compared to last time. Plenty of cultivated hybrid clowns has surfaced during the past yrs.
  22. Oh ok! I understand what u mean now! so ur gravity fed line is higher than normal water lvl (excluding the return pump water). So what is the level switch used for in this case? Just safe guard against sump overflowing?
  23. James, u may have finally answered the question i was asking myself the past months. What level switch do u use? U mentioned u tap water via gravity from ios? So u gravity feed ur sump, with a smaller return pump, and also have an overflow higher than the display water height?
  24. Hi bro, i got a spoilt resun 280. Everything works fine except temp controller. 90020585
  25. You still need to be able to match up the return rate from sump to your overflow rate into sump. Else dry out sump or flooding sump. Both just as bad unless main display has room to compensate for vol of external sump. Constant overflow rate into the sump may be easy to achieve, question is how to get a constant return rate back? As mentioned, it can be done, just won't be able to sleep peacefully every night unless the change in water height in sump is super minimal over a 12 hr period and extremely certain sump return pump will not fail.
