  1. haha, i'll be ur guinea pig bro, will update on the CR if possible when system is running.
  2. Hi bro, yup i'll be running CR this time. Will still be running ESV 2 part on the 2ft until everything is settled. From there, I'll be using the esv 2 part to twerk the parameters to my liking, and the CR will take over the job of maintaining the parameters. From time to time, will use the esv to buffer back if the cr is not keeping up, and than tune the cr again to hold. Only reason why i'm switching to cr this time, is because of the volume of the tank. I'm afraid the 2 part won't be economical in the long run. Don't get my wrong, I absolutely love ESV. The 2ft tank is pretty much on auto pilot with esv dosing, and its very much more straight forward compared to a CR. If i had a smaller sized tank, hands down, esv would be my choice for 2 part dosing. Same goes with polyplab reef resh actually
  3. Some updates on the 4 footer! Completed 1 week of freshwater cycle on the tank. Of cause, nothing will go according to plan in the hobby. Experienced 2 minor/major issues 1. Pipes were leaking! especially when i placed the eductor onto the returns. I managed to resolve most of the leaks, these were mainly due to loose bulkheads which needed some tightening. CRA was very responsive, called and told them i had 2 leaks, within 5 mins(no kidding), 2 guys were at my place fixing it already. Really impressed with their service! Definitely tank builders i would go to in future. 2. Return pump was noisy as hell. Initially my thoughts was a damaged impeller, might probably because of inserting it wrongly. I arranged with auntie at iwarna and got the contact to replace a brand new impeller......so.....day 2, i got the impeller, fixed it up....bam. The noise was still there. My contact than helped me replace a small internal part. During test, it was much quieter than before. I haven't tested it since i got back, but hopefully it will be better. Finally completed the whole piping, adjusting of manifold, gate valves, tidying the wires, plumbing and hooking up the chiller. Heres what the final sump looks like now. Thats all the equipment I should be using for my setup. Also collected my custom make top up reservoir. Might have to go back tomorrow to cut a hole by the side of the tank instead. Also started mixing salt water, if all goes well, tomorrow I will be starting day 1 of the 14 day zeovit cycle. As always, Thanks for viewing.
  4. Didnt realise jewel aquariums have been in the industry for such a long time!

    DI water...

Yes sure u can do that. It functions the same as a premade, off the shelf unit. I suggest getting the canisters from taobao, it ensures the inlet is pushed thru the media before exiting to the next stage.
  6. Suggest u go to atlantic glass to make a sump of your dimensions. Should be around $40+

    DI water...

My opinion is yes. It does work. Its basically running the water repeatedly until the water is clean. However, its not very economical since you are relying only on the DI resins alone for purification. This will exhaust the di resin absorption capabilities at a much faster rate, hence you will need to replace the resins fairly quickly, and this is not a cheap method. A more economical method will be to run it through carbon as a first stage followed by di resins. The life span of the di resins will be prolonged with the carbon doing part of the job for it. This is what the "crystal pro DI filtration" is really all about. 1 stage carbon, 2 stage di resins If you want economical and fast, than a rodi unit will be a better choice....i recently learnt about this myself. Basically the order of water flow will be ----> 5 micron filter (removes sediments and rust etc)----> carbon---->RO membrane---->DI resins......Since the DI resins are the last stage, effectively this will prolong its usage. A bucket of DI resins will set u back to about $45. Fills about 5 canister worth (if i remembered correctly). How fast the DI resins will exhaust will depend on your setup.
  8. Great idea to remove those artificial corals, ur tank looks so much bigger now! Ur LPS looks healthy, good job
  9. Love the tank and the scape bro. Very neat looking refugium light! I reckon you can keep the montipora as it is, theres always a chance it can recover. Had one that was fully white but recovered in a month to full green. No harm leaving it as it is. As for the Bn, if its losing tissue from base up, than u could consider fragging the healthy part. Or u can always gamble, if ur alk is stable, with gd flow n lighting, the BN can recover and grow back. Happened to mine as well. You can place any other coral you like bro. If you are aiming for ULNS, than your options may be a bit more limited, else, i don't see any problem adding zoas, arcans, hammers, torch, brains, pratas...list goes on.... Plenty of potential for the tank, keep the updates coming! Good luck!
  10. WHOA! Thats a good harvest from the ATS! well made ats bro
  11. Hey guys, Recently bought this on impulse. Changing to different wave maker, so no use for it. Selling at $80. I used it for 3 days in fresh water to test. No problem. Can be used with jebao, tunze, seio, sunsun or any wavemaker with magnetic holder. The info is from previous thread with video Collection at Siglap 90020585, Jarrett
  12. Nothing wrong with leds! But u need to identify the good ones from the bad. Playing around with the spectrum can be challenging, but definitely gives more room to play with, in terms of colour, bulb, spectrum, funtionability.... But as James mention, mh n t5 is definitely less complicated and proven to grow and colour sps well. It's up to u which u really prefer.
  13. Swee build! Love the set up! Can't wait to see u transform the tank into a colourful garden!
  14. Heres an update video from tidals gardens on Singapore. Beautifully shot, and deserves a lot of credit. Enjoy. http://youtu.be/oTFcTUUOjJs
  15. The 4ft tank is being filled with rodi at the moment, so thought i share the progression of my 2ft tank over the past 6 mths. I started out the 2ft tank with little to no experience keeping sps, U can notice particularly from the Birdnest and true fiber optic after 6 months. I experienced some major setbacks initially if u follow my 2ft tank thread, but in the process also learnt a lot of new things. I did lose 4 to 5 sps in this 6 months, but majority of it has survived and are thriving now. Heres my tank parameters at the moment: KH 7, Ca, 380, Sg 1.025, Temp 26-27, Ph 8.2 Dosing ESV 2 parts B-ionic on marine magic doser Using Polyplab system reef resh, 0.5ml fuel a day, 3 drops each of genesis, plus and acids Running Rowaphos and rowacarbon No refugium, No ats, Main nutrient export is through water changes weekly, 10% Lighting: 80% white, 100%blue, close to 8 hrs a day, with 2 tube t5 (1xblueplus, 1xartinic) Do click on the image to enlarge it for easier comparison Will be transferring the corals by end of the month, and the tank will be used for zoas and qt new corals.
  16. More shots from the 2ft tank IT from adams family Newly acquire Rainbow stylo: Instant PE right after putting in the tank
  17. Yah!!!! I NEED SAND! I cant wait for ur tank come, hopefully we can set up together, start 14 day cycle together. Thanks alot james Definitely exciting times Thanks bro Thanks bro, most of the rocks given to me by fellow reefers. Most of it had problems like algae and pest. So got it free, just had to do my own cleaning. Theres only two pieces of flat aquaroche rocks in the scape Hi bro, agreed, i also feel that the top right piece is a bit bare. But good thing is i can add on a piece of rock anytime on top for more elevation, but will need some corals by the front to hide the hideous elevation. Else, sometimes when i get colonies, it may come with a rock, so that wide area is really a "free play" area. But thanks for pointing it out
  18. Finally got down to doing the rockscape! This is my favourite part of the hobby! After a gruelling 2 weeks+ of cleaning the rocks, finally able to sit down and start scaping. Hope you guys enjoy, do share your views, would love to hear them. The idea i had for this tank was fairly simple....initially, i wanted to create 2 island with a huge arc joining, including couple of overhangs. Of cause, the rocks I had cleaned were rather restrictive to what i had in mind. I eventually ended up with 2 islands, with a single overhang by the left side. The main idea was also to have plenty of flat pieces where i could easily sit bigger colonies of sps and also sufficient room around for tabling corals. Front is relatively empty to accommodate for an illusion of depth. Making sure the rocks were clear of chlorine from the bleaching. A few more porous rocks were chosen and soaked in distilled water for 24hrs, than tested. Safe to say, its free of any cl. Next step was to get a table of almost equal dimensions to start of the scaping A rough idea of the rocks to use were than chosen Drilling of the rock and placing of the acrylic rod to hold 2 rocks firmly together. Drilling wasnt easy at all. My dad and i decided to only do it once, and epoxy the rest. Making the first overhang with epoxy Adding on the 2nd overhang rock, I used cable ties with epoxy and glue. Final product! Finally the rocks are done, tank equipments are ready. Problem is....I might not have enough sand. LFS ran out of stock for special grade reef sand, managed to get about 8kg worth from fellow kind reefers. Will have to settle with it for now, and will add more when stocks are available. Thanks for viewing, next update will be adding the rodi water, mixing the salt in, firing up the equipments and starting the 14day zeovit cycle. Exciting days ahead.
  19. Sorry for your loss bro! Dont be disheartened!
  20. Picked this up by the store today. $12 bucks for a little piece of mind. Rocks are soaking in pure distilled water, will test for cl Tmr. Bought my hs90a chiller, ordered my wavemakers, waiting for my zeovit to arrive, and it's time to fire up the tank. Oh Crap, I forgot the sand...
  21. Thanks guys, haha still long time before the tank is fit for an open house! Learning Alot of new things by the day.
