i know this is a stupid solution, but everytime my hand itchy to go in the tank, i go wash it in alot of soap. that way i wont put it in, then i will forget about it. clean hands + not in tank = WIN - WIN

U can lah. Asked your partner put loh. LOL

  3. Rescaped my left island to provide more space for growth. Also got a new piece of stag from AM. Currently got 8 types of stags! Cheers!
  4. U need to get a voltmeter to test for stray voltage in the tank. Isolate all equipment and switch on one a time till u get a sudden surge in reading. Happened to me before. Im now using a grounding probe as reef octopus is not willing to replace the pump, the distributor in singapore considers it to be in the "safe" range. Sigh. everyday tio shock also can consider safe.
  5. Your assumptions are right. Alot of times where people experience long N cycle is mainly due to the large amount of decaying matter. Would recommend u to stock fishes slowly as bacteria is still unstable due to quick cycle.
  6. Yes it's true. But a cuc will speed it up. Diatoms during cycling is inevitable.
  7. Bro, so packed liao. Time to upgrade!!!!! I see u got the passion for reefing, given the chance, go for it!
  8. It's fine to run just a single skimmer. Cos even if that fails, nothing major will happen. But always good to have secondary return pump n chiller! I run 2 returns and 2 chillers. Secondary chiller is only on when I know I won't be home for the whole day. If budget is a concern n u were to invest in a duplicate item. Return n chiller would be my first choice. Else, a single oversized skimmer works more efficiently than 10 smaller ones.
  9. Looking for small sized Kole eye tang! Let me know if u guys spot any!
  10. Took a quick shot in the morning. Heres how the tank looks as of today. Also managed to get 2 more bags of sand, which is now soaking in rodi, finally can complete the sandbed. Will also be moving corals around, most of the frags will be transfer to a different tank to give space for larger colonies to grow. Will post another pic when i get around doing that. Also will be upgrading the whole lightset soon. I really cant wait for this actually. Will make alot of difference to the colouration. I feel my current light set has its limitations. Day 83. Shots with my s3 camera phone. I really wished i had a DSLR Heres my current dosing schedule, that i follow diligently each day. Can be quite a pain, but since i spend alot of time in front of the tank, gives me something to do.
  11. There's a marine shop that sells fishes next to the ah beng the farm compound. Not sure if it's a new shop. But saw quite a few small golden trevalley in their main dt.
  12. Nice video bro! I find a video of the tank really helps to keep track of the progress! I'm doing one monthly as well I do however find the front a bit bare. But it does also help to give a good depth of the tank Can really see how huge the tank is.
  13. Good idea to place that float switch!
  14. For a 4yr old 1/4chiller to support a 5ft tank, does seem to have to work harder than normal, but i think an hr for 0.6 degrees might be too long. Not sure if artica will need gas top up. Maybe others can advise.
  15. Exciting times ahead! Keep us updated!
  16. If u are keeping fishes that don't require sand, than no issue, personal preference.
  17. I think i need a smoke after reading this. But seriously, i think as smokers we already have plenty of bans in place, sometimes just chilling at the farm with our friends, having a good talk and watching the fishes/corals, whilst still being able to smoke.....is something i hope wont be taken away from us. I do understand where your coming from, as smokers we should be considerate as well. I try not to smoke ard people whom i'm not familiar with or non smoker friends. Everyone should exercise consideration, but please dont ban....everything also ban...dame sian. Btw, we dont smoke to impress chicks....nor do we flick our ashes into the tanks.
  18. To be honest, i guess all of us are able to benefit from triton, even if we don't use their products. I for one, am interested in testing out my water to get an idea of element content in the water. That said, I'm still sticking to the conventional method of water change, as that have been proven to be the best reef keeping method for generations for overall health and wellbeing of the animals n corals in our tanks. As Fuel have mentioned, if we can incorporate the benefits of other systems and mix it up appropriately, we can achieve a desirable outcome. Any idea when the machines will be made available in sg? I understand the cost of testing for americans is USD 40. Hopefully if the cost was made cheaper, than more of us may be keen on water sampling.
  19. Beautiful shots! Always so jealous of those able to capture the true colours of their corals. Gives justice to the coral! lol
  20. Some coral updates Coral from pinnacle. No id, colour lost and coming back Bali green slimer, new growth, cant wait for this to grow huge Red stag from bro kaiju, love the colour Current centerpiece, Cream birdnest, growing too big, might need to trim soon.
  21. Fyi. I got mine cheaper by 50% compared to getting at lfs.
  22. I just bought mine from kelantan Lane. Plenty of options. Just walk Ard the area.
  23. Ok, so basically I've watched this video before, but to be sure, I've watched it again. Heres the jeez of what the speaker is trying to explain. 1. Its not magic, its logic 2. The usual hobby test kits are only capable of testing 6.8% of elements 3. In order to stop water change. U need to have a really good filter system that employs po4 remover and a means of removing toxics and inorganics as well, regardless u run triton or use the best salt. 4. Triton method is basically : Adding individual trace elements at measurable amounts. 5. A change of water essentially is just adding back consumed trace elements. It is not removing po4 or whatever harmful elements at a large percentage. Hence why triton doesnt do water change but instead recommand good filtration system, and than topping up the consumed trace elements with their individual bottled elements The ICP Test machine is essentially ur triton method. It atomise the water down so u can identify each and every single element in the water. And from there, u dose individually each element to the required amount. By no means does he try to promote the use of triton elements, but what hes trying to recommend is for hobbies to send samples of their water for analysis and identify deficit or overdosed elements. U can than buy off the shelf any brand of element, i.e zinc, strontium, maganese etc etc and than dose it to the correct amount. End of the day, to make it simple, u NEED to send ur water for analysis with ICP test in order for triton to be utilized. Else back to same story....ur just dosing blindly. Anyone can send their water samples to them. So does triton work? Sure, if proper water analysis with the icp machine is done regularly to measure your elements and your system employs a bloody good filtration such that u are able to get rid of stuff that shouldn't be there but have accumulated over time.
  24. Thanks for the input bro fuel and markymarcus. I guess personally I'll be more than happy to send my water for these triton lab test, once they have the machines here in singapore (any clue when, doubt it be anytime soon), since anyone is allowed to do so. In terms of overall health of the tank, as both of u mentioned, it be better to stick with regular water change with high quality salt, and then identify the deficit elements in the tank.
