  1. Personally, I don't recommend the use of such filter pads, unless its a Fowlr system. Main concern is a lot of products don't mention what elements are being absorbed. Chances are it will absorb both beneficial and non beneficial elements in the tank. Have considered this before and done my research. On top of that, maintenance to upkeep the usage of this product will be much higher as compared to regular disposable filter wool. I would look for an alternative way to reduce nitrates. Frequent water changes, siphoning of sandbeds, turkey basting your rocks to remove detritus, fine tuning of skimmer (correct water lvl, water/ air ratio), use of probiotic dosing etc etc. List goes on. The main concern here is to identify the cause of high nitrates. Use of such filter wool is just a temporary situation that is masking the real issue. Unless you plan on using it forever. That aside, AM carries a very good brand...Poly filter (when i was considering using this method) for those keen on trying out such filter pads on your system.
  2. The 3 big parameters are less important in a FOWLR. Main reason being, corals require the carbonate and calcium to form its skeleton and hence growth. Magnesium is to maintain a healthy balance of KH and CA. No coral, no large concern. For a FOWLR, you are not too concerned about the 3 parameters. I would say amongst the 3, only kh might be worth looking at, as it determines the water hardness of the tank which in turn also attributes to the tank's PH. Regular change of water keeps this in check. When i used to keep fish only, i didn't even monitor my tank parameters. Just SG level. Hope this info helps. Cheers.
  3. Haha ashwin, u can bring your cloves to singapore and set up weekend pasa malam at woodlands already
  4. Some pictures of my current Zoa collection. Been v particular about what Zoa I add. Now its just time to be patient and let it grow over the rocks. Already seen some spreading onto the rock itself. Aquired a new piece last night thanks to bro Jackie! And lastly, is this considered normal growth for my purple digitata? Tips are still purple. 8. Arh icic. ok! Only tried wild sps once, colour didn't hold well, and it stn/rtn while my other sps were still fine, went back to aquaculture. Hopefully they do well for you bro
  9. Loving those acros and overall scaping / placement. May i ask, are the tabling acros mostly wild sps? Don't see sps that size that is aquacultured.
  10. Wah steady la bro! looks dame good. Will be even better once u get everything going, and the tank is litted up swee swee.
  11. I dose twice a week, 2 to 3 mins before feeding roids + oyster fest. 10-12 drops each time for my 30 gallon. Nitrate and phos remain the same. Good skimmer + algone + rowaphos
  12. Noob alert : Never thought 2 frags on the same plug would merge...when 2 become 1..... Managed to capture some nice shots of my 2 favourite fishes And FTS to end the month, did some spring cleaning on the tank itself and moved some frags around. Got a new yellow birdnest to fill the back of tank thanks to reefer Dan. Pay day coming soon!!! Huat ah!

  15. You will be surprise what u can find at daiso for diy stuff. A little improvisation is all u need.
  16. Thanks guys for the kind comments. I will admit, keeping sps in a nano is a little tougher than i was expecting, largely because parameter swings keeps me worrying all day, all night, everyday, 24/7..... As some of you know, i had intentions to upgrade to a 4ft shallow. But that will have to wait for now.....my bike broke down yesterday, and that will probably take quite a bit of my savings. So I'm gonna hold off the new project for abit. Gonna let my current corals grow out more at the mean time, I'll update with pics from time to time on growth and colour. Cheers guys! By the way, if anyone has like lobang of the century, not to missed... for a 4ft shallow, please keep me informed still! Much appreciated
  17. Scape looks much better bro. Has that peninsula tank look. First time seeing a full view of the tank set. It has Alot of potential to be a true beauty. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
  18. Bro, u are good example of good reading up and research before jumping in to this hobby. Safe to say i've not seen many who are able to reach this standard with their first marine tank. Also a good thing is that now adays information is more availble, and technology has come a long way in this reefing hobby. Harder to keep sps are now made more available to the majority of us. ps. Waiting for ur frags to grow big big, than can come visit and rape ur tank bro. haha
  19. This tank is truly a beauty. Even with the red slim, when i first saw it....... my jaw dropped. Seems like things going very well mellow. Thats always good to know! Fishes n corals both looking good
  20. Stunning colours for the sps bro! Seems fm systems always get good colouration from what I've read so far. I have never trusted bio pellets, wanted to run it initially, but decided to go with probiotic dosing. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
  21. Check out bro evolution tank thread. I think he's using a small sump too, but I may be wrong. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
  22. Here u go bro. Some recent shots , with another colour comparison. This time stronger blue lighting to capture the greens.
  23. Hey bro, im using 40% white 60% blue with 2 t5s. My maxspect is 10k, so might not work out if you are using 16k.
