Nice colouration, is that taken under blue leds?

For 2ft depth and width, I would go 8 tubes. But u can get away with 6, depending on ur scape

Doubt there is a faster way of phosphate removal other than running large amounts of rowaphos. Most effective.

Agreed, ati lightset. Unless u don't mind spending on multiple units of Ai hydra.

Fieldwork Report (what SPS make it in my mixed reef)
tofubox replied to asg's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Just my own honest opinion...theres too many variables here to come to a conclusion. Personally, this is what i feel is required to keep a successful mix reef tank, regardless what coral... 1. Space Biggest problem is chemical warfare, especially in a small tank like yours, a chemical warfare can result in overnight disaster and death/rtn of corals. U need to leave ample amount of room between the corals, taking into consideration nightly polyp extension and growth over time. 2. Cater to individual coral needs Another important aspect is catering to each type of coral needs...U can't expect to keep a difficult acro with high nutrient requirement LPS or zoas. This is just not going to work. This is also the main reason why people choose to go for sps or lps dominated. Whereby it is much easier to cater to the specific needs of the corals. I understand the concept u have behind ur field work....but the answer is obvious.....if u want to keep a mixed reef tank, u need to find a balance between catering for both types of corals. From ur field work, i believe its water parameters / lighting and not a matter of chemical warfare within the tank. For those interested in keeping mix reef, start with ur lps/softies....than go on to beginner sps like BN and Digi....if they do well, u can try out milles and even acros. Dont expect a coral to be of it best standards or flourish unless u are able to cater specifically for its needs and requirements. -
Heres the link for December update. Cheers guys. Captured with s3

Cycling with just Live sand and plastic clamps
tofubox replied to Filzan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
You can start cycling with basically nothing. Just that the bacteria will not be stable to handle high amount of bioload. Just make sure your rocks u get are live, and no decomposing organics to slow down the cycle. -
Looks so full already!!! Good job man. Nice placement and mix reef setup

Very good pricing, items as good as brand new. Ups for this sales.

I like to cycle with my tank lights on, helps to encourage nuisance algae growth, so i can deal with it there and than, and not wait until u have corals. U can than treat these algae with chemicals or like raising magnesium and such. Your first set of clean up crew will also help to deal with this problem at the early stages. I have no idea if lights will actually speed up the cycling of tanks. Its personal preference, theres no hard and fast rule. both works fine. Diatoms will appear around day 8 - 10 of the cycle depending on ur system. It usually indicates the end of the nitrogen cycle. So it all depends on how much crap there is. I would recommand running some activated carbon when ur reaching the end of the cycle.

Probably only reason why i love Birdnest so much.....U get to see significant changes and growth, quick enough to not lose heart and interest in keeping corals. its like a small red dragon i got from a friend, only grew less than an inch after so long, now i just cant be bothered with it, regardless the rarity.

Hi bro, its a mixture, some wild some frag grown. Most of the wild have been with me since my old tank as well. They have grown by a fair bit. Thanks bro for the WA, maybe can save me a trip to prestech. haha Cheers! Benefits of zeovit maybe? I clean the tank only once a week. Aiya, same same u, ur tank also chio wor Actually i have no idea bro, got it from a good friend!

I would say it a bacteria problem u are facing. It should clear up, if u are carbon (sugar, vinegar etc) or bacteria dosing (i.e mb7) just hold it off for now.

Pointers on rockscaping (not all arrangement are the same)
tofubox replied to asg's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Have to agree, minimalistic tanks using having a large support sump system to house additional bacteria media. -
Excellent skimmer! Im using the co-3!
-
Good pricing for age of pump
-
I would check water parameters again if ur snails are not moving. Salinity and no3 in particular.
-
No problem, can place them in the tank anytime.. But just make sure u try to scrub/brush/remove any organic matter found on the rocks. Your cycling period may be slightly longer.
-
Haha, forgot to buy them. Will have to make a trip down to get it.
