  1. Awesome u got the aurora lightset!!! Do share your reviews on it. Looks like a great hybrid lightset.
  2. I just changed water. Couldn't wait overnight cos I'm flying off at 5am Tomorrow morning. Tested the kh before that, had a reading of 8.6. That's after 5 hours of mixing....so far can't see any difference with the corals. They seem to be showing same good health as before....will update again when I'm back from my holidays! Happy reefing!
  3. Hey guys, Just got back from madpetz, and got myself two boxes of HW Marinemix - reefer. Just tested it out, and I'm really happy with the results. Just sharing with everyone here. I first saw this salt appear on Bulkreefsupply. Heres a video of it. Never thought of using it as it was not available in sg back than. One of the first synthetic salt mixes ever produced No anti-caking agents No chemical or environmental pollutants, no nitrates, phosphates or silicates Natural, stable pH and optimal alkalinity Contains no EDTA which can chelate many necessary trace elements Optimized with amino acids and organically stabilized iodine - great for the reef hobbyist Heres the box of salt : Its small and portable, easy to carry, box weights 20kg. I transfered it over to a container for dry seal: Salt is very powdery Mixing in the salt @ 1.0255 sg: After 10 Mins of mixing After 15 Mins water is perfectly clear Water Parameters: Heres what bulk reef supply claims: "Upon BRS analysis - hw-Marinemix Reefer contained Calcium at 445-450 ppm, Alk of 9.0 dKH, Magnesium at 1380 ppm." My own test with salifert (upon water clearing, 15mins from first mix) : SG 1.0255. KH 8.6 (purplish pink) 8.9 (full pink). CA 440. Mg: 1410 My own honest review: German salt is really awesome! The salt parameters are impressive, they are very similar to BRS analysis, the MG is perfect for me which means I won't have to dose magnesium, just regular water change should do the trick. I keep my tan's KH between 7.3 to 7.5....so I probably have to wait for it to mix awhile longer. Will test again 6hrs time and share the info here. Salt looks really high grade, and since theres is no anti caking agent, im hoping there wont be leftover brown crude / residue / sediments as i get with other salt mixes in my container any longer. Excited to see how my corals react to the new salt mix. Will keep everyone updated. If anyone has tried this salt, pls share your own review.
  4. 1)can i dont use chiller but tot of using fans? - Yes u can, but dont forget to top up the evaporated power. Refer to this: 2)can i use hang on skimmer and which skimmer recommended? - Sure u can use a hang on skimmer, but make sure the skimmer is rated for your tank volume.....Can consider models like DELTEC MCE 600 or Reef Octopus Classic BH-2000 Protein Skimmer 3)which salt recommended for beginner? Plenty of options. depends on your budget. Skimz, red sea are the more affordable ones at the moment 4)can i keep live coral without chiller? Its not recommended unless u can keep ur tank slightly cooler <28~29 5)which marine fish that easy to keep for beginner? http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15+1926

  11. Theres also other factors that contribute to algae growth. 1. Since now ur tank is empty, there is nothing to out compete the algae 2. Lights effectively attribute mostly to algae growth 3. High TDS water also helps with algae growth 4. Phosphate may be leaching from your live rocks If u are not intending to stock ur tank with corals yet, u can try "blackout" the tank first. Or put in some cheato / macroalgae to outcompete the algae. Hope this helps. Cheers

  14. Taken from RC, User: Daimyo68. "The Brown Residue/white particles that you see are from precipitation, and if the bucket is not cleaned a few times a year, can actually create a "sheet/layer" on the bottom of your mixing bucket. RC is known for high values of Cal, Mag and Alk, which can precipitate out during mixing, when areas of the salt "clump" (for lack of a better word) during the mixing process. I myself get this also when I don't have enough surface agitation in my brute can. It has been suggested by some aquarists that some salt mixes may contain anti-caking agents, such as clays." Hope this helps
  15. Wah bro! Major rescape!!!! Looks so clean and nice. I like it!
  16. I like innovative marine tanks. Its a very nice all in one system. How efficient is the filtration? i got no idea. But for a starter tank, it should be fine. Heres what i will do if I were u: 1. Get the Nuvo tank 2. Get a small sized chiller or fan 3. Get a wavemaker, probably a jebao rw4 x 2. Ideally. 4. Get that skimmer because its built for the dimensions to fit the back of the tank. Else, look at getting the new BM QQ skimmer which is hang on, slightly more ugly if u ask me, defeats the purpose of the clean all in one look. 5. Get that red sea salt 6. Buy your sand, rocks, filtration materials and start the cycle. 7. Wait on getting the lights last, U can cycle the tank and keep small nano fishes while waiting for the 2nd month. By than your budget will be slightly better, and u will be more informed with the type of lights u require. Led or t5 don't matter, but get a good one to save yourself future upgrades. OR Just custom make a tank with sump. lol Good luck, have fun.
  17. Nice layout, when the corals become bigger, it will certainly look great
  18. Repositioned one of my favourite corals. Definitely a nice fast grower.
  19. Agreed, I used to own a couple. Got rid of them because the colours are too artificial for my liking after a while.
  20. Some shots i took today after returning home from work. These probably last few pictures before i rescape the tank somewhere in april.
  21. Hi guys, Looking for an overflow box. Can support two ft. In working condition. Intention is to use it temporary to house fishes and plumb to main tank. If u have one to rent or lend, do let me know. Will appreciate it. Pm me!
  22. Came across an article before. Only true peppermint shrimps are useful in clearing aiptasia. There are many variations. Google to find out more on how to ID, has to do with stripes on the body. LCK does have some of these time to time.
