I think a lot depends on the type of equipment u are looking at and the status (new/reused) of the equipment... IMHO not impossible but a tad tight

Consideration of making way for Lights
jxlex replied to Bulldozer's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Btw, if you do buy led from pasar malam, just google what you bought or search this forum, I'm sure you will find instructions for setup. Imho most systems quite easy to setup. -

Check out the sponsors If you wanna save some bucks and don't intend to keep corals, your t5s should suffice. -
No expert here but i used to use a TECO RA680 for my 4' previously. Did u set the desired temperature for the chiller? How long has the chiller been running?

Is energy cost/efficiency a concern? How deep is the tank? Personally I would go for ecomarine radeon + 1 or 2 par38s to supplement... Got more experts out there to advice

Just make sure u do a general check on the water before putting in la... And also top up progressively and not a lot at a go as it may affect PH. I do a weekly of about 30% plus every other day I siphon out detritus abit abit...

Welcome! So you finally decided to take the plunge For me I do water changes even during cycling... Shouldn't be putting any livestocks now as you would be expecting ammonia to peak, followed by depreciate while no2 spikes before lastly a depreciation of no2... Cycle considered complete once nh3 and no2 is undetectable... Why off your filter? If you off it, no water flow through you IOH, I presume increase in bacteria due to cycling would increase oxygen intake and without gaseous transfer you might face cycling problem... Not sure though... But I never off my filter, maybe skimmer during cycling but not the filter. Good if you can keep your temp btw 26-29C, I think the tank small those clip on fan should suffice but do take note of evaporation and top up with ro/di water accordingly. Advantage of small tank - you can buy a few 1.5litre bottles of distilled water for topping up Have fun bro!

I think so la cos for 2 tanks actually quite value for money if I go for Hanna... Time saving too!

i think you can consider "trying out" (with ample reading) on a tank of slightly bigger then mine or about the same size as mine... I would believe that even for fresh water, small tanks are also very much harder compared to having a big one. You would have more room for error when it comes to bigger tanks. Small tank, small volume, small change, big disaster... That being said, IMHO marine takes a lot more then your typical fresh water but even for freshwater i believe the same, "the smaller it gets, the harder it gets" applies

No issues but do read up more if you are not clear as such a small tank allows for little/no room for errors. This forum is a wonderful place to start. Depending on what you want to keep i think the stock lights are enuf if you are looking at a Fish dominated tank with easy LPS. Again, im not an expert but due to size its a challenge for sure

Hey bro, I'm not sure which version it is but all in all, its a 1ft x 1ft x 14" (l x w x h). Tank is progessing fine so far (cross finger and pray). My main focus is on NO3 and PO4, and limit feeding and livestocks to try an keep nutrients low. Regarding your question, i didnt use any of the factory provided media. I replace the whole of the 1st plastic container with Biohome, and the second with Ultralith. I added on an additional HOF with a mix of BioHome and PhosBan. Only liverock is in the main tank but i have no sand in my setup. Default lights were replaced with 2 x Par38 and i think it might be a wise choice to replace the default pump too(for circulation purpose), else i may consider adding a small small power head to increase circulation. Hope it helps. Let me know if you need further clarifications, i will do my best to assist! Good luck!
