Agreed... also note dont drill too near the surface either especially if ur return pump is strong... Water will stray out from the little hole too...

Actually drilling a hole at your return pipe will limit the amount of back flow... See attached... The return pipe being at a higher level naturally pulls water from the DT back to sump in event of power failures.. The additional hole draws in air during such occurrences breaking the flow and stops the return pipe from sucking water till the end of the pipe... Have been and still is using this method without issues. . That being said, your sump should still have enough room to hold the backflow until this hole stops excess return...

Interesting must really go do some research as my reactor output directly point to return pump and so far no algae issues yet *touch wood* i must have done smthg right somewhere...

IMO the impact shouldn't be great, agreed not as effecient as pointed to the skimmer but overtime he shld have limited impact
