That's what I'm trying to find out too... Apparently some ion exchange occurs within the zeolites as well so on top of housing bacteria, it is suppose to also provide the bac food as well... Then again the system requires an addition of bak food too... Hmm

U cannot use DI for water change bro... For top up yes, water change must be salt mix or nsw... I hope u referring to nsw and not DI bro

If I remember correctly, not enuf flow and clumping of pellet may increase some chemical into the tank which is not good... Try googling see if u get any info

Just check ur major elements (ca Kh mg)... If they are stable u should be fine... For zoas shldnt have the need to dose if swings ain't bad... Regular small water change will be useful since its small tank and if u can afford the time, daily or every other day change small small amount shld help to maintain most parameters...
