Tanzy I going to pipe it to the main tank, the output from the skimmer will flow into the frag tank first. As for polycarbonate, these are use in buliding skylight. So it should withstand UV better. For the stand, go for stainless steel, should last longer.
-
Tanzy That is what I was think of doing. But I will pipe the frag tank together with my main tank. Plan to start next month. As for rain, build a shelter and use polycarbonate sheets. I think they last better than acrylic under the sun. Problem faced: Heat is one of biggest problem. Light intensity too high. May cause bleaching. If water is too shallow. The amount of time, sunlight is shinning directly onto the tank (min I think should be 5~6 hrs) Green macro algae will grow like crazy. If you ever try out and is successful, then you can sell back to the LFS and also trade frags with others. Good Luck.

Hi guys, Got my 250W 20KK Radiums. Somehow Penta made a mistake saying there was no stock. Stock are still available. As such this thread should be closed.

You can try feeding it marco marine algae like culepera. You can also try lettuce although never try this before personally. It is important to get it to eat. Do you have plenty of LR for it to graze on? Tang and Surgeonfish are mostly herbivorous and require plenty of green to stay healty.

Hi Tanzy I have seen robe tank, he has 1 radium and the others iwasaki. It does not look so blue as your pic. More of a bluish white colour.

AT 10 more days to go.......... What is your plan? Buying whole shop again.. How are the snails, OK or kick the bucket? Flatworm.....?
-
Hi Phang Just to correct, I have not spoken to Eye Lighting. I called Penta Lighting for the Radiums Bulb.
-
Does iwasaki bring in 250W 20K bulb?
-
Did not get the actual quote yet. Only spoken to them thru phone. No experience on how long the lamp will last before colour shift. Anyone care to comment.
-
I think I/R/I combination is the best cos iwasaki has the best par. Iwasaki has a yellowish tinge, and radium is more bluish white. For colour, R/I/R would look better.

AT Sorry to hear that your AT and PBT died. It is always difficuilt to tell the condition of the fish if it has been poisoned. From experience, PBT need to be in excellent condition if they are to survive in the aquarium. Good colour, swimming around and not stressed out.

Hi guys, Looking for people to share purchase of the bulb. I require 2 pcs but the min order is 12 before the supplier will bring it in. Price is $120 each. Anybody interested.
-
robe, If you manage to find the radiums, let me know. I need 2 pcs. You need to order 12pcs from Penta (std packaging) before they will bring in, but I do not need 12 pcs. I intend to go for the iwasaki/radium combination.

I think Quinine Sulfate is quite risky to be used for flatworm control. The dosage is not define and over dose could kill off everything. I think this guy sort of overdose his tank. All the flatworms are killed off. Just read from reefcentral: "For the benefit of anyone who might search this thread in the future... One unfortunate result is that the montipora frags in that tank are almost dead. The flesh has disappeared from 80% of the skeleton, all color is gone in the remaining polyps. Xenia is still quite bad and may succumb. " I think I will try biological control, much safer. I currently have a mandarin, do not think it is eating the flatworm. Thinking of getting a leopard wrasse. Anyone out there know the price and which LFS has it.

Hi robe, Do you have a 250W Radium to spare? Call up Penta, they are out of stock. No indication when the next shipment will be. Do you know of another source of supply? Thanks

You can try feeding the coral by putting a small shrimps (mysis) into the valley. The coral will expand and the mouth will move to where the shrimp is and swallow it. In good condition, this coral will expand its feeding tentacles after light out. It can also sense food in the water and expand its tentacles in the day.
-
That what I was think You never see anything. Need a big magnifier place infront of the tank Just kidding
-
Looks like a brain coral from the family of lobophyllia or trachyphyllia. The colour look bleached. Increase your lighting intensity. This coral needs to be feed with shrimps or fish meat.

I will have to seriously consider if I'm getting only 1cm. It will take forever for it to grow.

hi spade Bought the material from Chan Huat Electric along Balestier Road. Was recommended by robe. As this is a strictly DIY project, I am still in the process of working out the best way to mount everything together. The hood will also be a DIY thing nothing fancy full just to hide the lamps.

Hi SH If you come across a beauty, let me know. Do not mind sharing.

Just to clarify, not all kind of corals can be frag or easily frag without causing damage to the parent colony. Most frag corals are those of the SPS (small polyps stoney) group. Frag are usually small branch/branches from 1" to 3". These branch/branches are then glued to LR where it will grow into a large colony over time.(May take a very long time)

"Just out of curiosity, if there is a healthy VERY deep purple Montipora in local LFS selling for $250 (yeah, I mean it) would anyone here be willing to pay for it? I saw it before many years back when I was still studying but the price was completely beyond my reach as a student." Nope, I would not be willing to pay $250 for it unless there are 5 people willing to share and buy and then frag it.

Nope, they are not aiptasia. Just polyps. Aiptasia has longer tentacles, looks more like yellow polyps but is brownish in colour and grow much larger.
