what does Emperor angle and clown tang feed on
Morgan replied to kee's topic in General Reefkeeping_
You can feed the Emperor with shrimps. Clown Tang feeds on algae.......finicky eater.........not easy to aclimatize If it refuse to eat chances are the fish is a goner. -
NSW collected from different location varies in term of pollution. Imagine using water from the kranji..... Water from the southern and eastern side of singpore are much better but then it depend on the whether it collected at high or low tide. Have been using unfiltered water myself and do not have problem. It is best to test the water first if you are using it for the 1st time from a new source......so you know what you are pouring into the tank. I believe that LCK put in additive into the water to balance to "normal" seawater level. This could cause a shock to your system if you use water without these level in proportion.Water around Singapore are low in calcium and kh.

Is there any marine species banned in Singapore?
Morgan replied to panlee's topic in General Reefkeeping_
For 2 days................... -
They are diffcuilt to keep corals. Doubt many people here have any sucess with it. They rarely live past the 1 year mark in captivity with most dying of after 2~3 months from starvation (tissue receeding)
-
Don't think it is normal for it to open for 3 days and close for 2.... How much does it expand when it open up......healthy specimen expand about 3x the size. Post a pic of it as it's hard to recommend anything base on the description alone.

Hey the topic is marine not freshwater................... -
What do you mean by if fish refuses to leave the anemone alone? In the wild clown fishes never venture more than 2ft away from the anemone. Small ones are alway inside the anemone. They are very protective of their anemone host and will defend it aggressively to the extend of attacking divers that venture too near. That why clown fishes are easily caught by hand. Back to topic....if the clown fish never leave the anemone even to feed then the fish is sick or something. You have to worry.....the fish might not survive.
-
They are diffcuilt if your tank condition is not good.......get ick very easily. Next issue is food....once you get them to eat commercial food your battle is over. They are colourful and aggressive. It is up to you to interpret what you consider is good tank condition.

Don't think sharks are illegal.........only thing is that they require alot more swimming room -
I place my elegance in a dish fill with sand. I place the dish high up where I can feed it. It is in a position with constant flow and good lighting. Had it for 6 months already.......still show very good expandsion..... no receeding of tissue. IMO elegance are very sensitive that require good water quality and water temp not exceeding 29C. Not a coral for beginner. Will try to post a pic later

Tangs That Are Paid Less Attention To
Morgan replied to Acanthurus pyroferus's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
There too many species and not all are colourful. They don't change their colours or pattern much as they grow like angels. Some even lost their brillant colours as they age like chevron. I prefer those with striking colours now. -
Tangs That Are Paid Less Attention To
Morgan replied to Acanthurus pyroferus's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Hi Acanthurus pyroferus The fish in the pic is not Acanthurus Blochii but a Acanthurus xanthopterus. Kept 1 before.....grow from 2" to 1.5' within a 4 years. A fish with very big appetite. The colours you have now is what you going to get as it grow. It turn darker and have mottle marking on the body when it get excited. -
Thanks spade Terry, AT in the wild can grow to about 25cm
-
Chris "something in the tank that moves".. ........ That is good one. You have to wait till I clear up my cyano problem 1st and then if it is still alive......you are welcome to view my tank
-
Atreef The colours and pattern of their shells vary from specimen to specimen. There are even red/rust coloured ones without the stripes. So to judge them base on just stripe is not a good way to differentiate them.
-
Don't know about the Cerith but you can find Nerite on the breakwater around Singapore. The disadvantage with nerite is that they don't stay in the tank for long......they love to wander about the room If you cannot find them and put them back in to the tank........your house/room is going to stink like hell.

Seem like nobody mention that angels require good quality water. They are very senstive so not really advisable for the newbie who does not know how to maintain a stable enviroment. They are also very territorial....more so for the large angels. Some angel are specialize feeder and is diffcuilt to get it to start feeding on commercial prepare food.....but once you manage to get them to eat...they are like pigs. The are also aggressive and will usually attack new comer to the tank.
-
Hon Yeah the fish has the whole tank to itself. Don't want to stress it or else money down the drain. Tanzy Not that I do not want a school but think I'll ended up with none. Probably they would have killed each other off before they can even pooh.
-
Deep blue The non marine 1 is very easy to take care.......not too fussy about food. Currently it is the only fish in the sps tank that is swimming about. So there is no stress. There are a pair of green acro goby which does not venture out from the acro. It is my 1st and I really hope it will do well.
-
Hi seahorse Yeah I was lookng at the same one you are looking at. But it is not interested in food you offered and the other 2 not so 'nice' Orange spot too small. I really need a nice fish to control the algae in the tank.
-
How I wish.......he has finished of some of the red algae. Hopefuly it will proceed to the grapes by end of the week.
