  1. Any brands to recommend? For the reactors? Value for $$? =)
  2. Do they sell the corresponding reactors too? I'm still trying to understand the difference between a carbon reactor vs a phosphate reactor.. Thanks for the help =)
  3. Hello fellow reefers, Few quick questions : 1) Where do you buy carbon / phosphate(GFO?) reactors and media? Any good brand(s) to recommend? I'm planning for a 4x2x2 SPS tank 2) Where's a good place for assorted plumbing supplies? I've tried all the hardware shops around my area but they don't carry the unions and ball valves that I need.. Thanks for your comments =)
  4. Hi fellow reefers, I'm gathering interest for a mass order for instant ocean sea salt as I managed to link up with a distributor. If interested, kindly post here and we'll tally up the numbers before asking for a discount. We are looking at buying the 50G / 200G bags or the 160G buckets.. The place of collection can be arranged once the mass order is confirmed. Thanks.. Cheers and happy reefing
  5. Anyway, C328 called me this afternoon to inform that they have IO in buckets.. Finally, I can do my water changes again!
  6. Ok thank you brothers.. Will check them out
  7. Yes.. Do you know any LFS selling it?
  8. Hello, Does anyone knows of any LFS that sells Instant Ocean? C328 is not carrying it already (their supplier stop supplying) I need to get the big 200G box.. Thanks.. Cheers
  9. Hi, I'm interested to buy some cheato macro algae. Can any fellow reefer sell a handful to me? Please pm me price & collection date (preferably after work) Thanks..
  10. Dear Sir, Don't mean to rain on the parade.. I'm also new to the hobby and I made some mistakes thinking that I'm able to grow corals immediately with a new tank. After being in the hobby for about a year, I realized that patience is the key. May I suggest that you start the basics such as choosing your substrate (or go barebottom) Then go for a decent live rock to water volume ratio, cycle the tank fully before selecting some easy to grow corals (such as hammer / frogspawn) or even mushrooms. The growth of the easier corals will spur you on which we train our patience.. Then slowly move on to harder corals such as SPS (acropora) Just my thoughts, I've made my fair share of mistakes by being too impatient so I would really appeal to you to start slow and go steady.. Cheers,
  11. Hi, Welcome to the hobby =) I'm new to the hobby so I'll share some of the things which I've learned along the way.. Confirm with the previous owner if the live rock are truly "live".. You could save some money on the filtration if the live rock to water volume ratio is decent (1kg/litre), I believe a canister filter is not necessary considering the low bioload of the tank (a couple of crabs + clownfish) I'd suggest getting enough salt mix for a water changes, 5-10% twice a week to keep the pollutants in check.. If you have a habit of overfeeding your fish, start looking around for a protein skimmer. I assume budget is a concern, please ask around the forum for a 2nd hand skimmer. That should tide you around while you learn more about skimmers. (There are cheap MIC brands in the LFS which cost a fraction of the normal skimmers and work pretty well =D) I am a fan of high water volume turnover, so if you can, get a koralia rated for your tank so that you can reduce the dead spots in the tank.. Better circulation = better inhabitants Remember to plan for the area which you want the tank to be placed, then get a nice stand. Sumps are a nice thing to have, but not exactly necessary at this point in time. You can add a sump to your set up at a later date with external overflows. Hope it helps =)
  12. thanks for the replies.. I was thinking of comparing between big tanks and small tanks.. It seems more worth it and convenient if our tanks are small.. Cheers
  13. I was surfing the net for marine salts and it seems that Instant Ocean is the cheapest.. As I'm still new, I will not be going for SPS corals. Hence, IO should suit my usage? I do my water changes once every 2 weeks.. If NSW is the cheapest alternative, why isn't everyone converting to that? Any reason? Cheers
  14. Hello, Not sure if this has been asked before.. Saw on another post that the brothers here buy pre-mixed salt water from LFS, is this a cheaper alternative? Also, what are the preferred choice of salt mixes? Noticed that the LFS do not carry all brands, which brand is better for coral growth or FOWLR? I'm currently looking at Instant Ocean but I don't see any LFS carrying it.. Cheers
  15. Read wrongly.. Attention the question to the wrong person.. My apologies..
  16. Hi Guys, No suggestions? Cheers..
  17. Hi, I have an existing 10G and is upgrading to a 4ft-er.. I'm considering getting dry rocks and using my existing live rocks to seed the dry rocks.. Is this a good idea? How much dry rocks do I need and where is a good source for nice looking dry rocks? Cheers and Happy reefing..
