  1. Hi, I'm new, but you can try to 'seed' your tank by getting some crushed corals or filter media from another reefer's or a LFS tank and put it inside your system. Another way is to add in live rocks earlier as the initial die off will also supplement the nutrients for the beneficial bacteria to grow. Dosing bacteria helps but I still think that they need time to colonize to help in the reduction of the wastes products. I think the key is patience as comycus have mentioned. Add in your live stocks slowly, if not they die we also end up bek cek...worse than the wait for the tank to mature. Hope that helps =)
  2. No chiller can, my tang now in 2 feet with no chiller doing great =)
  3. Hello, This happened 2 days ago. I came back home late and when I switched on the lights I saw that my female harlequin had climbed to a rock which isn't her normal position to rest. Feeling curious, I went on to have a closer look, and what happened next was very special. Perched on her rock, she sorta like jumped and released her larvae. It sorta look like it was snowing like tt la... Then the larvae was like floating around and soon became food for my fishes, shrimps corals etc... I was just wondering if anyone has experience in raising the larvae before here =) Read on the internet got one ang mo did it but it was only until a certain stage of the shrimp's plankton life nia.

  5. Hi, Have any bros seen this before ? Shld be very ex ?
  6. Yup agreed adult brine shimp is mainly water. It is newly hatched ones that are nutritious. In my opinion to keep them healthy we gotta include a diet that includes a lot of algae. Eg Dried Nori With regards to garlic, I find that there is a increase in the fish's appetite after soaking their food in garlic. However the results are not immediate. What I believe is that garlic has some anti parastic(internal) properties and prolong usage will improve the fish's appetite. Hope it helps =)
  7. Am also putting garlic and vit c into fish food to boost their own immunity. Pardon for askin, I understnd hypo is effective. But is there any long term side effects on corals and inverts ?
  8. Hi, Do any of the bros here have experiences of curing ich in your reef tanks. My Sunburst and Flame kena and but are still feeding. My solution is to throw in a uv filter to keep the count in check while waiting for the fish to heal itself. Any inputs ?
  9. Comycus, I thinking of jus putting some Macro algae in a HOB filter. Hope functions as scrubber. Dont know if it works....
  10. I suggest dont buy DI unit first, very ex. There this 4 in 1 test kit at petmart. NItrate Phosphate Calcium and kH. Only 50+ nia. Maybe you wanna test your water first before jumping in. Seachem also got Phosguard which also removes silicate.
  11. Hi, My tank has been up for 2 months or so, do see some coralline algae growth but it only happens in patches. Green filamentous algae is quite abundant though. Doin weekly WCs and tank is scrubbed every other day to counter green algae. My tank does not operate on a sump and was wondering what more can I do besides considering a algae scrubber. Phos guard is also in place but have been there for about one month or so already. Water parameters are as follows Nitrate:~20ppm Phospate:~0.1ppm Calcium:400 kH:8 Need some advise =)

  13. Hi, Got myself a 3 inch purple tang today. Introduced into my 2 feet tank with an yellow tang of about 2.5inch. Within an hour the tangs started to fight and found that my yellow tang was 'stabbed' a few times in the body. What I did was to isolate the purple and seek some advise here before deciding on the next move. Can the bros here advise me on what to do... any tricks or success stories that you've experienced by mixing the 2 together Thanks =)
