  1. 1. they will, given the right conditions 2. it would be best, or blue first, then yellow 3. a qt is used to "quarantine", not just hold, the fish. If your fish develop ich, or have any other disease, and you have them in the sump, they will infect the rest of your livestock. is your tank size 3x1.5x2 feet? or meters? if it's feet, you proly shouldn't put the 2 tangs in it. (or, if they are small, just be aware of the fact that you might need to take them out at some point).
  2. add a refugium, good skimmer, run gfo/carbon, you can also use chemi-pure elite.
  3. soak the whole thing in water and vinegar. You might need a new impeller though.
  4. well, you don't want my setup, it's old
  5. filter socks are an excellent idea. Just need to stay on top of changing them out.
  6. thanks bro. That's setosa is my favorite too. I'm adding a picture of the rommel's rainbo acro. The other two are not ready to be photographed yet. ha ha, yeah, good ole college days tyvm I like to keep it simple thank you, and why? ok, some more photos
  7. check this out clownfish feeding a damsel to an anemone
  8. it's also based on what you want to grow where. if you don't want sps at the bottom, there's no reason to have 300 par down there.
  9. ooops, forgot. I am no sold YES, on LEDs as a main light source. Give this technology a few years and it will be the way to go.
  10. a lot will depend on your tank size and depth. I just did par measurements on my tank with 250w mh and then with 6x39w t5s. http://reeftools.com/live/forum/showthread...=114&page=2 However, to a point, 250w will be better than 150 (unless your tank is so shallow that you're cooking your corals. I love 20k bulbs. Are you going with SE or DE bulbs? Radium 20K is nice. Or you can go with a lower temp bulb and supplement with T5's or LEDs. Hope this helps.
  11. just arrange it in a way that creates some overhangs. That way you always have lower light areas (I think this actually happens naturally unless you are extremely careful NOT to do it)
  12. can't wait for my rock to color up, although I may have it covered in corals before it has a chance
  13. love those rainbows and flaming RPE's.
  14. Thanks everyone. those were taken with a fuji s2 pro using a nikkor 50mm macro (manual focus). re: anemone tank, I just got a crazy new BTA (it's yellow/orange/green). I'll have pictures of it soon. I just added 3 new corals to the tank, a peach millepora, a $500 efflo and a rommel's rainbow acro (which just looks like a colorful millepora to me )
  15. thanks law. The tank is young but is plumbed into an existing larger system, so the water column is not a new one. I lost my old tank a few months ago, took a few months off, and started again.
  16. I can't agree more about using RO (or RO/DI) being worth it. You will save a lot of head aches.
  17. to answer the original question, just activated carbon will not lower the tds enough.
  18. what do you think of my tank? and some macros
