Hi guys, My long awaited tank is finally here... its been a lpong one month wait. The Tank was delivered and assembled yesterday morning. The attached is the tank shot... with sand already poured in. Thursday will get Irwana to bring the NSW, and then i will start cycling... As i will be taking over some live rocks from a friend, and i already have 2 kgs of Bio Homes sitting in his tank for the last month, i hope i can shorten the cycling time... will update later...

Hi Comycus, Can i check with you? I bought a MCE 500, coz i wanted it in the sump... Anyway, there is a weir plate right next to the piece of blue sponge. Do you know what is it use for? Also, i am abit unclear of what the air venturi is for... From the instruction (which is a 1 pager) it says that ideally i should adjust it in such a way that the water level is 2 inches below where the skimmate cup is, how do we adjust the water height? really sua ku...

My FOWLR 4 ft X 2 ft X 2.5 ft
pweesng replied to TFMANIAC's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Just checking, is there any reason why you don't want to have too many rocks in the tank? Because i think (i might be wrong) that besides live rock as part of your filtration system, it also provides the fishes with hiding place, and food. Another plus point i can think of, if you have coral that require more light, if you have a higher rock placement, you can put them up there so that they can get more light. But i can also "see" (literally) the benefit of having less rocks as in your case... i can see all the fishes... -
last weekend, i saw Henry@ML remove the front grill of my 1/10 looks easy, just pull and it came out! It definitely can com eout i guess, just how much strength to use... ha ha

how to set up 1 feet tank in office?
pweesng replied to Magnet's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
actually, while waiting for my tank to be done, my hand was very itchy.... i set up a 1 foot 2 gallon tank in my office. Fresh water of course... you'll be surprised... the water doesn't really evaporate much... i hardly top up more than a small cup each week... but the water does get very cold, it goes down to like 23 degrees when my room ac is on at 25 degrees -
yah.. i read in RC that anemones should be introduced after at least 6 month from the time the last fish died! hahhaha i guess i can keep my chiller oneside first... or if anyone need to rent a 1/10 chiller, let me know.. hahaha

Hi guys, many of us will house the tank and the sump in a cabinet, and in the course of maintenance, we cannot escape from salt water being in contact with metal parts of the cabinet or rack. Short term exposure will result to these parts becoming rusty. Mid to long term exposure will result to the part be weaken, and some to a state of disuse. how do you prevent rust from forming on the metal, say hinges etc... etc... is there something we can apply to them that will prevent rust, and in the unfortunate even that some get into the water, the tank will not crash?

Thanks Solo, the shop is also advising that i run the chiller with a separate pump, as sharing the same return pump, it would result to massive headloss... Let me think about this... will update...
-
ha ha.. for me it is not so much of heat.. rather i want to keep the set up simple and suck as little power as possible... plus i hate wires going all round the cabinet...

Will be using the Maxspect 110w.... Anemones will probably be placed in the middle of the tank, since i heard the 110w ones are only good enough to support 2 feet tank max. Maybe i should change the AB 2000 to something that can churn out 3000 litres/ hour. let me check with the shop to see still can change or not...

I see, do you know what is the recommended / preferred number of times turn over for a FOWLR tank, but high chances of getting a few pieces of anemones for my wife's clown fish? thanks again
-
Thanks Luke, But that would means you need 2 pump in your sump? 1 to draw water from sump to chiller and back And the other to draw water from sump and send it to your tank?
-
thanks comycus, i presume that flowrate to the main tank doesn't really affect anything except how fast it fill up the tank and how fast it flows down to the sump and no other purpose? I guess if i need movement in the tank, i can always compensate it with a wave maker?

i might be wrong, but the population of bacteria in the biohomes will multiply depends on the amount of waste that can support it. If you add in more biohomes, but there isn't enough waste, the bacteria multiplication will simply not be that much. It won't result to a tank crash. in my previous FW tank, it was 2 feet, i has 3 kg of biohomes running in a canister filter... no tank crash for almost 8 years also... When it comes to these things, i always thing, the more the merrier. It will only do good for the fishes... but harm the wallet...

Hi Guys, i just purchase a chiller from a fellow forumer. Will be collecting it this tuesday, if he manage to decomm in time. Anyway, just checking, what kind of flowrate do i need for the Artica 1/10? my return pump is a AB2000. Do you think it is possible to connect it in such a way, from the return pump to the chiller and then back to the tank? Or how would you guys usually connect it? Thanks in advance...

Bro, PM you about the Chiller. hear form you soon Cheers,

Hi Guys, can i check from all your experience, how many piece of clown fishes can i accommodate in a 3 by 1.5 by 2 feet FOWLR tank? I want some Grouper, but my wife wants 20 pieces of Clown fishes... i guess the Grouper won't happen. I just wanna know if i get 20 piece of clown fishes, would it overload the bioload? and with the 20 pieces, can i still get any other fishes, for example 1 or 2 more yellow tang. the set up would be with a sump tank of 2 by 1 by 1.5 feet, with MCE 500 skimmer and 2 kg of biohomes as well as some live rocks, if i can get my hands on them. Thanks in advance
