  1. Hi Craft, thanks for your comments... i kind agree with you.. but the tank maker make like that, i also no choice leh... let me see if i can get him to connect a ball valve now.... otherwise, nothing much i can do also... hahaha
  2. Yah.... I thot of getting the tank maker to put a ball valve. That will definitely helps in terms of the noise. The problem is that the return pump (after the head loss) is already about 10 times cycle for the tank volume. So I'm not sure if it's a good thing to slow it down further.
  3. Thanks Peter, can you advise ideally where should the bubbles reach until in the cup or the skimmer?
  4. Thanks Peter, can you advise ideally where should the bubbles reach until in the cup or the skimmer?
  5. He hee... no eggcrates in the water though. I dide consider your suggestion, but since i didn't want thick sand bed, i am not confident that the eggcrates in the tank can be covered... The eggcrate used in the sump is a lot easier to change. Water test: With 2 damn smelly prawn in the tank, i did a water test this morning.... ammonia is 0, nitrite is 1.5 mg/l and nitrate is 15 mg/l, using tetra testkit. i suppose the presence of nitrate at such early stage is probably because i am using live rocks and bio homes that has been sitting in a mature tank for the last 1.5 months couple with the use of NSW... I think nitrite might head south to 0 in another couple of days.... hopefully... LED lights: I've just been told that the Gen 2 Maxspect will only arrive end of feb, so no show tank before CNY. Water Temperature: Also, in the morning the water temperature is about 30.5 degrees. At night it goes to aboue 28.5 degrees. If i am only keeping some clown fish and some tanks, with no corals or anemones for the next few months, do i really need a chiller? Skimmer: I am pretty sure my skimmer is not set correctly. it did have a full cup of water in the skim cup this morning, and it is smelly... but i don't think there shoudl be that much water in it... will have to play around with it for a few more nights... thanks in advance
  6. 1. Sure, next time got lunch, i don't mind joining... otherwise, you are welcome to drop my my office. we have a couple of F&B outlet here... 2. i cannot imagine the eggs hatching... how many snails you want in your tank? hahhaha
  7. Congratz Bro... A princess will be much more fulfilling than a 10 foot tank! Where do you guys meet for lunch? where are your work places? i work in Orchard area... can meet! hahaha
  8. Ah... ok thanks.. that helps... one more question. Where should the water level be? ie how many fingers below the "top of the skimmer body"? Thanks in advance
  9. [qRight side view... Left side photo was taken badly... so i decided not to post it... also, the lights are not in, that's why it looks a bit ugly
  10. thanks... those are actually 2 bucket worth of live rocks... taken from the tank of a friend... hoping to reduce cycling time...
  11. Some Problem The Skimmer... I don't know how to use! can someone give me some details? Also, my tank down pipe (from tank to sump) the water is gushing down very fast, it creates a lot of noise. I have already tried using 3 stacks of wool at the landing, and i cable tied a wool around the pipe... but it is still noisy. The return pump is a Ehiem 1262. It is also giving out some sort of vibration... how do you guys reduces the noise of the gushing water? thanks in advance
  12. Hee hee.... anyway, this is the new updates. The NSW and the Live Rocks are thrown in yesterday. Here are some shots of the tank...
  13. i see ok... well i am using LED, perhaps that's why... in any case, this is not a thread about my tank... apologies to Justin... back to you now...
  14. Steady!... now i need to introduce you to my wife... we tell her you are my primary school class mate...
  15. he hee... to be fair to the bro who sold it to me... he did give me a good price for a chiller that has only been running for 3 months. As far as i can see, the chiller is brand new. But telling her it is $80, a bit hard lah.. let's just say, i've been caught lying too many times... hahahah she knows me inside out... that's why she is the better half...
  16. i am still fighting the urge to put in any livestock before CNY... I'll be outstation just the week before CNY and i certainly don't want to come back and find dead fishes on CNY... it woudl be a bad start... i hope i can resist until after CNY before i put in my first fish... can someone please tell me it is seriously okay to put a couple of clown fish in for cycling? hahahha! ok, don't slap me...
  17. ha ha... i be honest with you... the chiller is still hiding in the storeroom. The moment i take it out, i know my better half will scream at me! i promised her that there will not be a chiller for the tank! i'm still trying to get someone to take it from me and pretend to give it to me as a birthday present.... so how to try? Stop Laughing... I'm weak...
  18. hi Terryz, just wondering, would you have any experience on how "overwork" the chiller is? ie how often it kicks in and for how long each time. Also, i kinda believe that these chillers are made to be able to run for than a few hours a day, to be honest. from the JBJlighting website, tank size around 3 by 2 by 2, the recommended size for chiller is 1/10, which is the reason why i was looking for that size. Henry @ ML also confirm that 1/10 is sufficient. I know you don't mean any harm, and in fact trying to help, but i am just wondering if 1/5 is a good to have or is a must. I don't mean any offensive with this email, so don't take it the wrong way... thanks mate...
  19. The LED is about $1.3K... the tank cannot be sold without the LED... without the chiller, it works out to be slightly south of 3k...
  20. Hi Justin, just checking, how is the 1/10 chiller coming along? does it work well? the reason i'm asking is that i have a slightly smally tank from yours. It's a 3 by 1.5 by 2 with a sump tank, and i'm wondering if the 1/10 can cool the water well, or should i sell it away? looking forward to hear from you.
  21. I used to have money plant sticking out of my FW tank to suck in the nitrate. Its really good... the FW tank can go through 2 years without changing water. i can't do a mangrove refugium coz i don't want to have to put lights in the sump tank area. Anyway, Irwana guys are coming to top up the tank this evening. I shoudl be able to give another update by tomorrow.... ha ha... exciting!
  22. Money Plant for Salt Water Aquarium http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/3..._saltwater.html
  23. Hmmm.. no plans for it... Perhaps get a potted plant or something... It would be a nice idea if i can get a salt water plant and extend the roots to the sump tank.. that way it becomes a nitrate remover and it improves the aesthetic of the tank... anyone know can money plant survive in salt water?
  24. Hee hee... Thanks Guys, I'm using MCE 500 for the skimmer. The return pump is a ehiem 1262. I got a Arctica 1/10 chiller in the store room, still deciding whether to plug it in. The Maxspect 110w LED lights is on its way, shoudl get to me by end of this month (hopefully). I still hunting for a second hand Gen 2 MP 20 or 40 wavemaker. If anyone has one to sell, please PM me... Otherwise i think my equipment is pretty much there... I'll save up some dough to add another MCE 500 much later... Now the number 1 thing is to get the live rocks, get some NSW and get the cycling on its way.
