  1. Yes NSW or salt mix will be fine for water change. Just make sure you are diligent enough to change it more often to export all the "bad stuff" out. Evaporation is only water without salt because when water evaporate, salt will still remain so just have to top up water for evaporation.
  2. Effects of bleaching for one day is astonishing. Everything dead and i got my white white rock back again. Before After Guess they are ready for 3 days worth of fresh water soak before sun baking. All nuisance algae and aiptasia should be in heaven now.
  3. No worries. Yeah i have pop by both and see in person but just curious is it able to sustain lighting needs for SPS as the one in display at Fish Channel is more of a mix reef rather than a full SPS tank. Neverthless thanks for your reply cheers!

  5. Thanks bro. Have been reading all forums for information with regards to LED for SPS. It seems like quite a number of reefer having good result with it but main issue with it is coral losing its colour but still achieving growth.
  6. It's definately easy if you have done enough research and be very diligent in water change and such.
  7. Erm i ever thought of that but just thinking of giving a try after doing so much reading and research online. Previously i spend a couple of hundred on LR alone so thinking might as well save up on this side and also as a experimental trail run. Anyway your suggestion is a good one as well, but there's a saying curiosity kills the cat and i fits in that bill .
  8. So i begin to plan and purchase equipment for my new tank and here's the list. Vortex Mp10 Maxspect Razer 120w 16k H2O FR with Bio Pellet H2O FR with Rowa Tesino GF352 3000 as return Skimmer (Yet to decide) Artica 1/10 (to be purchase after i complete my planned 2 month cycle) Once i have decided on the equipment i wanted, i head begin to search for quotation for the tank i wanted which is 2 x 2 x 1.5. After consideration from a few maker, i choosen CR to make my tank with 3 side crystal glass which will be coming in on March due to the chinese new year period. In order to end all the pest issue, i begin killing off my live rock and make it ultra clean by bleaching it. Once the bleaching process complete, i will air dry and sun bake the rock before soaking it in RO/DI water before cooking it to make it live once again. I'm sure this process will give me really clean rock. Shall update once again
  9. As a kid i'm always fascinated by marine life, but keeping marine life is almost impossible as due to monies issue unless you have lots of love (pocket money) from your parents. After completing NS and stepping into the working society, but chance i saw one of my buddy (Jowenteo) keeping a reef tank using IQ7 and that's where it sparks of my thoughts of setting a piece of ocean for myself. It all started with a 1.5 feet five plan plastic tank that i purchase from 328 with DIY IOS with help from my buddy once again. After keeping this mini 1.5 feet DIY tank for about 2 years with the ability to sustain the fishes and some zoas, i decided to upgrade to a bigger tank. But chance i spotted a reefer selling his 3 x 2 x 2 tank at a nominal price, i told myself what am i waiting for? Straight away i contacted the very friendly and helpful reefer for this tank and drove my dad lorry down on the following day to collect my new toy. This reefer which i cannot recall his nick, even went to the extend of helping me carry down the tank to my dad lorry. This 3 x 2 x 2 tank is really a beast with 12mm glass thickness. It will literally break anyone's back if you did not handle it with care. With the help of 2 other friends, i manage to get this beast up and below is how it became after a couple of months. But due to work and school commitment, i totally neglected this tank and its infested with lots and lots of hair algae, aiptasia, slime algae and many other types of pest algae which you named it i have it. It's really a task that i don't really fancy wish makes me kudos to those reefer out there with tank height of more than 2 feet. After much consideration, i decided to start a new tank as the current one seems a bit too hard for me to salvage with all the pest and also to build something which is easier for me to maintain.
  10. Planning to keep SPS dominated tank with LED with the view of electrical cost effective. Any reefer out there have success keeping sps using LED?
  11. Surely no tap water at all. Unless you are ready to battle with algae constantly.

Bro what type of coral are you keeping? Any bleaching issue?
  13. Hi Gouldian do you think a single unit is sufficient for a 2x2x1.5 tank for SPS?
  14. Looking good here. It takes lots of determination and dedication to DIY.
  15. Thanks for the feedback. Guess i will only power on both my BP and Rowa once i completed the nitrogen cycle.
  16. Working on the most exciting part of reef tank. Planning, planning and planning!

  17. Looks like its a mixed result. Yeah that's my initial thoughts as well, but after doing some research online it seems like there's no definate pertaining to this query. For tank cloudy issue i suppose shouldn't be much of an issue as i'm not intending to throw anything into the tank till i achieved my planned 2 months worth of cycling. Many thanks for the kind advice by guru's here.
  18. Anymore guru out there could verify the process? Thanks jowen.
  19. Hello fellow reefer i'm currently in the mist of preparing for my new tank. I have purchased a reactor and bio pellets which i will be running on my sump. My question is whether do i run the bio pellet while cycling or deploying it after my cycling process? Appreciate any help from guru out here. Cheers!
