thanks! how long is it safe to dip the star polyps? I just removed a nudi and some of their eggs. (recognized them from an old thread about zoas here) really great forum.

Just my first coral, star polyps, this afternoon. Acclimed and placed it in a quarantine tank after i got home. When i turned on the lights i saw some claws hastily retracting into a crevice.. is a freshwater dip advisable? some parts of the piece has strands of brown stuff growing on it. It resembles brown human hair, should i remove those as well? some pics of the brown algae (i think) below for ref.

I'm tempted to move on from a fowler tank now my tank is stable. Some bros here might know that feeling Don't have practical experience yet so taking my time to do research, want to start off with hardy and lower end corals. Maybe I'll start a tank thread. thanks very much for the advice!

the flasher has been in the tank for a month or so. Its flasher then six line. I get the logic behind adding the fiercest fish last, but over time the fierce will will get established too, will things still be ok then? Or once its peaceful (because its added last) then it'll remain like that (assuming no more newbies)? Thanks for the detailed answer! I wasn't sure how far up the phylogenetic tree the aggression extends.

A google search said the six line will not be able to get along with other "lined" wrasse. Not sure if the flasher is counted..

Thanks! I've prepared for the event of a blackout.. the siphon will pull water till the water level in the two tanks are equal. In other words the smaller tank is taller than the water level of the main tank. Its still working fine after a day. Good idea, I'll look for an overflow box. Are there any for 2ft tanks? @jacky a float switch? Do lfs carry this? Now all i need is chaeto.
