Hi, you should not turn it on 24 hours. Only turn it on when you want the reading. Else it will use up the battery in about 2 days or less. I think it is written in the manual. Cheers!

My thoughts: Take out rocks and clean thoroughly, Put them under the sun for a couple of days. I think do one rock at a time so as not to make too much changes to your bacteria population, etc. Check your phosphate level in the tank. Get a couple of algae eating fish and/or inverts.
