the reason for tendency is due to lack of flow around it. Anemones imo rates water flow far more impt than light. when anemones lack of light would proceed to the nearest water flow to receive passing food. i once place a seio blowing at an anemone, the anemone was at the pinnancle of the LR. however, after setup of a nano tank i remove that seio, the anemone was reckless despite being at the highest point to recieve light. it could be a possibility that my light is not sufficient. but it shows despite the light it prefer to go to an area where flow is more. another occassion, when the lights were off over the weekend, the anemones would move towards the water flow. this was in another aquarium.

so long it is adhere and no clowns rubbing against it preventing it from adhereing to base, should be fine. give time

count one....since 26 feb only lor. i read www.wetwebmedia.com and some other links (not much resources on it) but fuel posted article is comprehensive. i would have to feed regular other wise i understand it loses it color.

only if the anemone is at least twice its length... i had once a carpet not large enuff for the clown. the other reefers said the clown "rogol" the anemone. the anemone could not settle down.

that is an "anemone" i have not tried. wink

the same.... i have been feeding my anemones more recently to see if the long tentacles will reduce and once regain its tips....

i feel the same too on this topic. currently i have 4 bta in my tank. 3 green. and the greens are definitely exhibiting that.

i have 2 bot from spore. via lfs. if u refer to anthony calfo's new book there is a chapter there.

actinics does not nothing but to serve ur eyes. most books recommend 6500k for growth, but too yellow, so mix actinic to disfuse the yellowness. not sure if the direction would be use 6500K MH when no one in, then when u come back, MH off and actinic comes on. this way u prolong the actinic's useful life and 6500k MH is cheaper than higher Ks. plus 6500k i believe has higher intensity

wow bro so long, put link lah. anyway nice. however, In the Reef Aquarium Vol 2 by Julian Spring, he does suggest the continued efforts by some reefers will provide insights and understandings that benefits the community and which labs cannot sometime provide. but like u mentioned ban, Field guide to anemones authors do recommend that anemones are not necessary for clown fish in capavity and perhaps ought not to be tried. Anthony Calfo said unless u provide a species tank and confined 1 best not keep.

maverick, yours look like green BTA. i feel the lighting in most ppl tank insufficient, in a short term remedy is to feed it. not so much, try 4-5 days once or even once a week.
-
u definitely use more LR. 18watts is insufficient. Actinics have not much use by anemones or photosynthetic corals. it is for ur eyes only. increase the intensity of the lighting gradually.
-
i wear gloves when handling anemones. BTA sting is not as potent as the haddoni.

hello everyone, glad that maverick77 and dreamzcape remember what i shared. first at foremost the number of hrs u switch on the MH is not sufficient. extending the photoperiod to 10hrs would better. when anemones move is either : 1) something u add recently (LR or coral) is blocking the water flow, 2) it identified a stronger light source like the window near the tank, generally it is the above, of course it is not limited to the above. Identifying a location where the BTA gets the most light and providing sufficient water circulation in and around the anemone is vital to their capavity needs. There is my general rule of thumb. with that anemones r happy and has no reason to move. However, all said and done, there are instances when all possible actions have taken yet u have a wandering anemone. such circumstances must be rectified asap, a moving anemone as u guys have mention has manifold effects on other corals and not to mention stress to themselves. how to? again the 1 and 2 above. (yup, easier said than done ) surrounding BTA in an island (since BTA are known to dislike sand) is a sugestion to prevent anemones to move. However, moving over sand or LR is what we observe in anemones. But in the nature, anemones can be suspended in the water and uses something like a locomotion to "swim" in the ocean. cheers

just note, excessive feeding will cause stress to anemones
