My PH is always stable at 8.3 so not sure why your PH would increase from 7.85 to 8.2 within a week. Could be better aeration of water by the MCE600 though.

Do you have a fan blowing at your sump or at your tank? Otherwise I really don't think that you can have 40% evaporation rate in our sump.

What is the size of your tank and sump? I'm very sure that even without a chiller, there couldn't be that much evaporation from your sump.

So that is over a week or every alternate day? I only top up ard 6-10L a week for my 322 tank.

Carbon - Most types will do fine. Not necessary to get the expensive types since the main purpose of carbon is to remove the DOC and yellowish compounds in the tank water. Phosphate media - Any Iron based phosphate media will do just fine.

Changing water means siphoning away your current tank water and replacing it with new NSW or salt mix. Topping up means water level drops due to evaporation and you add distilled or DI water to make up for the water lost through evaporation. I do have 1 question, how do you get 40% water loss in your sump tank through evaporation?

Are you running a FR in your sump? If not, I would suggest running carbon and phosphate media in two of the trays. I wouldn't recommend ceramic rings though. Bio rings and a sponge would be fine for the other two trays.

Water change and freshwater top up are two different things. Both have to be done. By the way, what do you mean by top up 40% of freshwater?

Algae as in algae on your tank walls or rocks? As I see should be brown algae on your rocks? Use carbon to remove DOCs and phosphate removers to reduce the phosphates in your tank.

As far as I know, Jireh has never trained their mandarins to feed on pellets otherwise i would have bought a mandarin from them last time.
