Hi ryz, seen that you keep many delicate fish that actually shouldn't be keep in the tank. Especially you moorish idol, this fish is extremely difficult to keep, yes may be there are "very few" people that claim can keep moorish, but this story is still need to be prove. But, one thing for sure is almosty 99,999% of moorish will die either from bad water parameter, strike by diseases, and of course bad nutrition. To keep butterfly in the tank you must know some rule : 1. You must know what you can buy and what you can't buy. Avoid coral eating species. 2. Buy a moderate size fish. Small or big b'fly is a bad choice. 3. Avoid cyanide fish, this is hard task but usually i use my feeling to choose if i can't suspect any strange mark or behaviour in the fish, as you know almost of all fish in indonesia are caught with cyanide, so through my years of fish keeping, i can a little bit "sense" a cyanide fish. 4. Don't mix b'fly with aggresive fish and a fish that will bullying your b'fly. You dead vagabond is dead because of oodinium diseases, and i think it already in dangerous level, as it sign with heavy breath, it mean the parasites has been encounter to the gill, usually at this stage, most fish will not survive.

Hi ryz, IcecruncherZ is correct, pic no 1 is a juvenile lineolatus somehow rate as very difficult to keep alive for any term of time, because it is classified as coral eating butterfly. Pic no 2 is juvenile vagabundus, it is rate as 50-50 chance to survive in the tank, as it ussually easy to eat but the die without reason. Pic no 3 is juvenile adiergastos, it is also rate as not easy to keep as it also feed mostly on coral and small amount on crustacea, but i have 1 at about your's size, it live for almost 2 months till now and still eating well on my DIY prepare food. Don't know how long it will survive in the tank.

HELP need to identify Angel Fish
Asfur replied to ahkit81's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
I think neokn is right, a very small fish from imperator or koran angel, they're marking is more round and become more oval as they grow bigger. As far as i know dwarf angel will not changes pattern. -
Hemm, may be you never seen the truly adult KORAN angel, i agree with you that juvenile and sub adult color is not good and looks ugly, but completed adult will even match maculosus or even french angel in color and gently movement. Only the bad point is to get fully growth Koran from juvenile to adult is very difficult, as fully adult color Koran is very big and that mean you need very big tank. Here is a completed color of Koran angel.

Copperband not eating in the tank is not a good CB, as IMO CB is some of the most easier butterfly to eat prepare food, this is my second CB. When i first start my hobby about 10 years ago, i also kept CB, and it live for about 3,5 years and dead because electricity shutdown for over one night, and the my maid didn't know what to do. This second CB is just about 8 months. I agree most of the failure is because of cyanide, and i believe that most fish in my country is suffer by cyanide, even i believe my CB is also caught with cyanide, i just hoping my CB only get very very very....little poison. But if in your country CB is only S$2, this is mostly somekind of the looser, even in my country CB is around S$3-4. May be i can give you some hint : buy a medium size at about 5-7 cm is the best size as larger or smaller size is mostly a looser. Look for a healthy body, mouth do not wound, and giving a reaction when you look at the fish like swimmig around or look curios to you, and hopefully already eat in the store, but the latter is not a must as i never try to eat them in the LFS, cos' once you can pick a good fish, then it will start to eat in the tank very soon, i don't tried to fed the CB, golden mask, majestic even my regal in the LFS before i bought it, but i very strict with the very good fish and use my feeling, like the regal in my tank is a long search for about 9 months, waiting, seeing, looking for good size, looking for yellow chest, etc etc etc, but it's worth to wait, as finally i found one.

Here is another picture, and i will try to take a full shot of my tank, but is is not easy, as it will look so small, and you can't even see the fish, that's why i only shot near. But if i have a good clear picture i will attach again here.

Your nitrite is in very dangerous level, if you can't reduce it fast and steady, then you are endangered your fish.
-
Well patirck123, my tank is FOWLR. And my regal is 100% indonesian species, here in indonesia, there are 2 kind regal, the first one is a mimic of red sea species that have yellow chest, and the other is the looser with grey chest. Lucky me, cos' may be my regal is not poison by cyanide, mostly regal in my country is hardly poison by cyanide, and as you know regal is far more weak compare to annularis or blue face. One thing for sure, you can't keep regal with other aggresive big angel like blue face, annularis, emperor, six-banded, koran, queen, king, and asfur (i think i already mention it all). Because this big angel will bully your regal, i keep my regal with small majestic, and it's okay as majestic is not as aggresive as the above species. I still wait for the less aggresive french angel to add.

Any body had the experience keep the Colin Angel
Asfur replied to Regal's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Due to its nature, this fish is a deep water species, and very shy fish that rarely swin faraway from crevices. This fish is also rarely available in the market, also very rare info about it's longevity and durability in the tank. IMO this fish is not easy to keep. -
Yup, agreed with RAV-65, unless you have a very good skimmer and a mature filter, then you will spike ammonia and can kill your fish.
-
Hi wts684, for briefly, both filter is do the same job between canister filter (eheim) and sump, they do mechanical and biological filtration, but sump filter is usually big so that the filter can hold and process the inhabitant by product better than canister filter, that just my 2 cents. I don't have any experience with ozonizer, so i can't give comment here, although i read in many thread and books that ozonizer and UV steriliver is almost unusefull in marine tank. Overall i think RAV-65 are giving a right info, so he already answer your question. Your tank will content high DOC sooner or later cos' you keep big angel that will release big "pooh" and need eat protein (meat base food) and vegetable. So, you can imagine the by product from your big angel. That's why most reefer don't keep so many fish and only put small fish. IMHO

Hi, one thing for sure, i'm not an expert, i'm just dedicating my last 5 years (from 10 years) in FOWLR and angelfish as my favourite fish. And i do so many search in the net about angelfish through RC, Reef.Org, SGREEF, and many more, just to read and gain knowledge and hopefully share with people that need info. So the information that i give above is mostly venture by advance hobbist either in RC or Reef.Org that may be you guys not yet read. So this is actually not new info, and i bet achilles tank also know what i write here. To courage fish to eat from your hand then you must teach your fish, it just a matter time for your fish to know that "your hand" is not an enemy for them, then after they know it, your fish will go up everytime you feed your fish. About your coral beauty, i have my own perception, most thread and fish info said that this fish is easy keep and some of though pigmy angel, but here in indonesia, i found contrary case, actually coral beauty is a 50-50 or 60-40 or even worst 70-30 failure. So for your case, i think you better try open scallops, crush crab claw, or slice squid, and try in seperate tank, coral beauty is not as bold as big angel. All of this is IMHO.
-
wts684, looking at your tank, if im not wrong you're not using a sump filtation aren't you? Are you using eheim filtration? If that's true, hope you use a big eheim capacity, cos if not then your ehiem will not give good filtration capacity. And looking at your condition, i think most of your soft coral and hard coral will not live longer, it will die either eat by your fish or cos' too high DOC in your water. Also i don't think your Polkadot Sweetlips will live longer, this will will also die cos' of starvation. This story is just to share to you, you might like it or not, but i just try to tell the truth.
-
Hi RAV-65, from what i read in many thread and saw some failure here in my country, golden pigmy angel is not an easy fish to keep, it most die in starvation (same case with Multi Barred Angelfish/Paracentropyge Multifasciatus), and even your golden can live, it will hide forever behind your decoration. There is one LFS that can keep golden for more than a year, and yes when i try to look at the fish is very hard cos' it hide. Potter's is a better choice.
-
Hi twrs, Blue-Face or here we (indonesian) call Napoleon Angelfish is absolutely very common here, i am very weird why you said it is rare. About your failure with regal angelfish, i think you pick the wrong species, or may be you don't know how to persue thw regal to eat, cos' at the first time, regal is a fuzzy eater, but when he settle in your tank, he will give you with good performance and eat what ever you offer, mine eat pellet, lettuce, shrimps, squids, scallops, flakes, even Lou Han pellets.
-
Hmmm, your regal is in red alert, i don't think he will live for more than a year or even worse half a year, i don't mean to discourage you, but since you pick the wrong species, i don't think you will succeed with that regal. My species and Regal species is the correct regal that can be keep in the tank. And also your one month old tank is surely not mature enough to hold too many fish especially angel, cos' angel need more mature water parameter.
-
Yep, RAV-65 is right, if u want crab, mussel, scallops, shrimps, etc, buy from nearest supermarket or traditional market, here ini indonesia i buy in carrefour.
-
SPAIN for sure, may be most soccer mania will doubt Spain reputable, but this time RAUL and Morientes will blast the EURO 2004.
-
Hi wts684, if you find troubles in feeding your angel, then try open mussel or scallops, crush crab claw, or chop/slice squid. Almost all healthy and unpoisoning angel are impossible to refuse this kind of food. Good luck.
-
Hi wts684, how long you keep that regal? Does it eat well? What kind of food that you offer? Cos' i'm really concern about your grey cheek species.

First Pic is 100% Koran Angel (juv. size) Second Pic is 100% Chaetodontoplus Melanosoma/Black Velvet Angelfish (juv. size)

Yes, i agree that regal is not as easy as most big angel like pomachantus and holocanthus spp, but the key to keep regal succesfully is to choose the right specimen which is have yellow chest. Mostly Indonesian regal have grey chest and this spp is the looser in captivity as they will starve to dead, but yellow chest is very possible to keep is you have good water quality. I know the key of success to keep regal since i read Greg Schiemer article, he has regal that live for 10 years in his Reef Tank. And guess what, his clue is very precious, since my regal now is the second regal that i try and proof succes to me. About 7 yeras ago, i tried my first regal and it was from grey chest, and it not eat for month untils he was a little bit skinnier, and finally i release him to the ocean. And before i read Greg's article i also think that keep regal in the tank is almost impossible, but now i believe that is you choose the right spp and already have a mature tank, keeping regal is not as hard as we think before. That's just IMHO
