Copperband is a medium to sometimes hard to kept in aquarium, but once it acclimatize it can become a bold fish, i have a CB that growth from around 4 cm to almost 7 cm. It eat almost all food including dried seaweed/Nori except pellet and flakes. Other BF that can be a good fish in aquarium are : auriga, saddleback, double saddle back, mellanotus, vagabond, euphipium, tinkery, semilarvatus, burgessy. Those BF can be rated as easy BF to eat in captivity.

Oh IC, i thought own one too. According to my books, that regal are own by japanese aquarist, and there are other rare specimen which is albino regal and some other very rare and even restricted species own by japanese taipan. Not even american aquarist are crazy enough to pay that high price.
-
Nice MI bro Regal, Ehh btw, do you own the regal in your avatar? It is a very rare regal specimen.
-
I wonder how big is his tank and how long he can keep his fish in healthy condition.
-
Agree with gouldian, 1 for 2 feet for mid size BF like merten is a good choice. there are other BF that remain mid size like mellanotus could be a good choice too
-
The good thing is there are quite lot BF that can be keep, but the bad thing is your NANO tank is not a good place to keep them in long term. IME, BF should be keep (for their healthy) in the tank that not less than 40-50 gallon tank, it is like a 1 m(L)x0.5m(W)x0.5(H) tank. You have a choice of : Auriga, Vagabond, Ulietensis, Falcula, Golden, Copperband, Yellow Longnose, Racoon, Mellanotus, Tinkery, Burgessy and some more but i forgot the name. New specimen should feed with live food like adult brine shrimp or mysis shrimp. Avoid : Trianggulum, Trifasciallis, Meyeri, Ornate, Very Longnose Yellow BF ---> this species are mostly coral obligate.

Yep, marineman is right, Golden Butterfly is surely ont of the hardy BF, just be sure to select the healthy specimen, not doom and emaciated and must to quarantine for about a month to ensure their healthy. They are not hard to feed, and actually will feed just few hour to a day after introducing to the tank.

Roidan is right, the most possible cause this fish is not survive long in captive is because the method of capturing this fish. In nature this fish live (most) in deep water and never swim far from nook or crevices, so logically this fish is "very very very" hard to capture and not so easy available in the market, especially if ready in lots of quantity. To keep this fish, you must provide lots of live rock and crevice to duplicate it's nature habit.

Any info about LFS address in KL????? Thanks a lot bro.

If u tempt to keep this fish, be sure u choose yellow belly spp, indo pacific have that spp, much better if u can afford red sea spp. Pick the fat, aware with surrounding area, healthy and not breath fast, much more better if already eat. But don't worry nowadays many ppl can keep regal without any big problem again, just be sure about that condition, ofcourse u must have good quality water. Just follow aboe suggestion, mine are use open clam and mussel for the first week to seduce the regal to eat, now he is almost 2 years and eat almost everything. Avoid grey belly spp, as most of them are doom and starve to death in the tank.

Is protein skimmer importan for FOWLR ?
Asfur replied to farrel's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Here is the answer from Greg, who already meet and ever saw Prof Jaubert tank : This is what i wrote : Asfur wrote: Hi Mr. Greg, This is actually are question from my friend, he is very curious why Prof Jaubert can have a tank without using a skimmer and then write an article in advance aquarist in oct 2002 if i'm not wrong. This article are makes some of reefer in indonesia want to follow this system and believe this is the most natural just like in the nature, and the best system to apply compare to other system, they want the secret behind this, do you know it, and can you explain to me? Thank you very much. Hengky First of all, Jaubert doesn't have a closed system. There is a constant exchange of natural seawater. Second, the aquariums have a very light bioload of fish and corals, and open expanses of sand. There are no secrets in keeping an aquarium and many methods work. It's all about balancing the input and output of nutrients. If you maintain a light bioload and do a lot of water changes, you can probably eliminate a skimmer, but not so many people can create a situation like Jaubert. Greg I hope this will answer ur question. -
Is protein skimmer importan for FOWLR ?
Asfur replied to farrel's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Hi diabolus , i've already rad that article year ago. I'm not against you , you are right there are "some" ppl can have a tank without skimmer, but i'm here talking on generals, in fact i've often chat with MR. Julian best friend, and he also quite often write an article to advance aquarist, if you often go there you must know the name, he is Greg Schiemer. Plenum are only really success in Prof Jaubert tank, and DSB on Dr. Ron, there are so many follower fail to attempt this method, that's why not even expert like Julian or Greg move from Berlin Method to their method. That's why also why expert and most good books never suggest to keep Moorish Idol, eventhough may be there are some ppl can keep it for several years in tank. And you know what is the habit of indonesian hobbist, in reef tank they want to have (if they can) all spp fish, they will put large angel, dwarf angel, butterflyfish, tang, etc, with only jebo skimmer. Or a FOWLR tank with only 4-5 feet tank, but want to put at least 5-7 spp large angel plus 2-4 spp tang, this is not count with other small fish like clown fish, wrasses, dottyback, anthias, you name it, they buy it . -

Asfur replied to farrel's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)

Asfur replied to farrel's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Hi farrel, the guy that tell u skimmer is not important in keeping FOWLR is giving u a very big mistake. I think i know who suggest you, as my suggestion, don't follow that guys advice again. Skimmer is very important in every setup, you may avoid the use of skimmer is you live just in front of very clean water and drawn the water direct from the ocean, but can you afford it? -
Hi finally i met u here. Eh, as for my suggestion, i think ur sump are way too small, you have 2 meter tank and i try to guess from ur pic, i think less than a 1 m, or may be approx 1 m, is that correct? I think u need a bigger sump and you better set a prefilter space to filter the debris and poo of ur fish. Your return pump are also too small for your huge tank, i agree with kalib, i think ur lamp is need to be re-arrangge again or u better use 2 combination only, which is blue and white color. I think for ur tank, u need at least 6 pcs @40 watt flourescent.

I think pellet and cyclopeeze is not a good way to seduce a BF to eat, the best way to seduce a BF to eat is to try a live/frozen mysis shrimp and adult artemia but live is much better. The task is to eat it first and then teach to take other kind of food.

Hi bro, i just bought a tunze 6000 that can be adjust, and i got the single controller from my friend, he switch to multi control that i bought for him from singapore. The problem is : the pump is work properly without controller and the adjustment level is also work, later i connect the single controller to the tunze driver, but the pump stop. Why this happen? Actually the controller is also work properlly, i mean the pump light is on and the power light is swicthing from 1 to 2 to 1......according to the pulse time interval. So with pump have no problem and the controller with no problem, why this happen? Thanks bro.

Hi, i'll be here (s'pore) by tomorrow and about a week in your country. Hope i can meet you guys.
-
Hehehe, your angel is not watanabei, it is a lamarck. Hopefully you're not paying a watanabei price for lamarck. BTW, how long you've been keeping your angel??
-
Wow, that condition will makes many people envy, including me. That is an angel paradise.
-
6 feet is about 1,8 meter, that's sound enough for that monster, but you will be in trouble (in most case) if you then interest in other angel and put a newbee angel in your tank.
-
Whaxc, if i'm not wrong 13 inches are almost equal to 30 cm. That's a big angel abd if you don't have quite big space, then you will put your angel in stress.
-
Yep, me too bro, that's why i write down this thread.
-
I don't mean to discourage you, but that lfs make a very nice name for a blue angelfish, which he add "Royal" in front of it's name. But, i just want to said that blue angel is not as beauty as queen angel.
-
Hi dispar, i don't mean to against you , but i'm not sure about your statement, here is taken from my book, it is a guidance book of angelfish and butterflyfish in the world including its distribution area. Look at checkmark, it is very clear that no way a king can available in brazil. They are seperated each other. I think what you mention it just a hybrid of queen and blue which often said as townsend angelfish, many people are said blue are same with townsend, but actually it is not.
